If I make 4 inch diameter pancakes with 1 tsp sugar and lemon then I can have 13 of these ..... maybe this is a little OTT but I can mix up the fillings a bit too
That's 2 for breakfast, 3 for lunch, 4 for dinner and 4 snacks - mind you, you might not want to see another pancake for at least a year, in which case it's just as well it's an annual event
Forgot it's Shrove Tues, I'm out to dinner this evening. Wonder if the restaurant will do them?
Today afaik
B - F&F, sk milk
L - small jacket with prawns, ff yogurt, teasp rf spread
D - whatever is good on Harvester menu, will check on line before I go
S - melon, grapes, pear, satsuma
Have a snow free day0 -
No pancakes for me today, I am cooking dinner for my parents and future MIL - first time they are meeting! Eek!
Will try and be good and hold off pancakes until after this challenge (which also conveniently is after my wedding) but I suspect they may find their way into Sunday brunch this weekend!0 -
Apologies for late post. I (finally) lost 1lb this week! Very happy and hope it continues to come off!! Still struggling to stay motivated though as I am working so hard and it's a real struggle to lose any weight.
Also really looking forward to pancakes tonight - it's my second favourite food day of the year after Xmas. Yum.14 projects in 2014: 3/140 -
I forgot it was pancake day today.. I was busy homing a 5 mth shy kitten this morning. She's going to a lovely home.. I was telling the new owner that she might not come out of the igloo but, of course, the kitten proved me wrong.. She not only came out of her igloo but rubbed noses with her new owner and purred like a train !!!! :j:j:j Traitor !!!! :j:j:j:j:j
So I have lost all track of time ... I might just make some pancakes for dessert this evening...
Today, I am having chicken skewers... I dug out some jars of satay sauce and then noticed the date on them... 2012... not that it mattered to me but the calories were horrific... so I am making my own...
4 tsp of peanut butter, 2 tbls soy sauce, 1 tsp of chilli sauce or equivalent and 200 ml of water... heated up in a pan.. :A
I oiled the bamboo skewers and threaded alternately cubes of chicken breast, mushroom, pepper... until each skewer was filled.. and then liberally brushed on the sauce.. I have loads left so I'll baste them some more as they are grilling... :j:j:j:j
I reckon I'll have half the sauce left, so that will be half the calories.. :j:j:j:j
I have also made some chicken soup... with stock cubes, veggies and some chicken thighs thrown in... so I'm off to have some of that the now... as it is 3.30 pm and I haven't eaten yet..
Take care, and enjoy the pancakes !!!! :beer:0 -
I don't usually post here but I do read and hope you don't mind me asking a question.
I am 61 years old, started the year at 14st 12lbs and am now down to about 14.3lbs. It has been slow going, partly because of my age but also because I don't want to go too low in calories. I am moderately active, looking after my grandchildren a couple of days a week, out and about the other days.
Anyway, my question is, why is it that every afternoon around 3pm, I get really tired and have to have a nap (when possible)?
I am eating between 1300 and 1500 calories a day, hardly starvation level. I have two slices of toast, thinly spread with butter and marmalade each morning, with tea. At lunchtime I have either soup/porridge/ryvitas with Philly cheese and ham, so around half my daily allowance up to that point. The rest I leave for my evening meal.
I have just eaten a banana rather than a couple of biscuits and now have a bit more energy but I did have to have a nap.
It used to be so easy, till I got to about 35! The weight used to fall off and my energy was fine. Six weeks in and I am determined to carry on but would welcome any advice. Thanks.0 -
Hi everyone
I'm finally back from my trip away, and just catching up with the thread...well done everyone who's lost more pounds, I do like the weekly list posted with the big total, it's looking impressive!
I did try when I was away to keep eating sensibly, but was surprised how quickly I "forgot" I was meant to be dieting and started to eat a bit more. On the plus side though, I still ate proper food, no ready meals (except for one night when I had the most delicious fish and chips) and I still don't eat chocolate, although I was tempted one miserable cold day!
So...back to the challenge...hopefully now I'm back online and checking in here I'll get back into the swing of it soon.
Whitesatin - you post an interesting question, and I don't have an answer for you. I've had spells just like that, when I would fall asleep every afternoon (luckily I worked in the mornings!) Now I never fall asleep in the daytime, yet my diet and lifestyle is much the same. Perhaps it's something other than food?
If you could live one day of your life over again, which day would you choose?0 -
Finishing off yesterday's menu, dinner out was chicken breast, jacket potato with sour cream and salad. They didn't do pancakes, bah humbug!
Today
B - 2 slices WW wm with yogurt and marmalade
D - beef and bean casserole, small jacket
T - 3 crackerbread with rf cheese, vegemite, marmalade
S - melon, grapes, satsuma, pear
whitesatin, I'm much your age and love my siesta, I get far too tired in the evenings without it - in fact I could close my eyes over my morning coffee at times! Having a daytime nap also gives my the energy to go out to my clubs etc in the evenings and not doze off halfway through a meeting or whatever! You're doing the right thing by not rushing to lose weight, slow and steady is far the best way to lose and keep the lb's off, but that applies at any age. Personally I don't calorie count. I am careful about my fat intake though, having experimented with various way over the years reducing fat seems to suit me best. I tend to have my main meal at lunchtime so I'm not sitting in the evening after a heavy meal, but realise that's not possible for everyone, workers and so on.
For sure we have more energy when younger, there are things I can't do as quickly now that I did way back then, likewise I can do more of other things than I knew how to in my 30's. It's all about balance, and you seem to have it pretty well sorted with the grandchildren and getting out when you can0 -
Hi All
What a white, snowy morning it is today.. I've been out early shoveling the snow away and it is as thick as ever... I cleared the driveway, the path and the steps.. :A but you wouldn't know it! Just think of the fat I burned off doing it... :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
Anyway, every Wednesday is my weigh-in with the wii and I keep my results for Friday.... Well, I've been at a virtual standstill for the past couple of weeks and I am sure my weight fluctuated on some days to + 1 lb to staying the same but I was determined to carry on...
Well, it certainly paid off this morning.... I have lost a lot of weight this week :j:j:j:j:j and I think I've managed to lose my first stone... give or take a pound... I can't remember what I was to begin with but I can't be far off it... :j:j:j:j
So, hopefully, this Friday will be the start of my goal to lose another stone... I would have to say that my idea seems to be working for me.... Only eating when I am hungry and not eating rubbish.. I haven't actually banned anything as I have found that I crave for it then... For example, I am half Italian, so I eat pasta... so I make the sauce the same way and I have my cheese on top.. I wouldn't enjoy it if I reduced the cheese or omitted it altogether, so I still have it and thoroughly enjoy it... and that's what keeps me focused... to enjoy what I eat.. I eat nothing between meals and absolutely no biscuits, sweets or rubbish and no sandwiches unless it is for a meal...
Healthwise, I feel a lot better although I am still seriously overweight... but I no longer had to lean against the house wall while I shoveled the snow or use the banister to drag myself up the stairs.. I really suffered carrying in a load of washing down/up from the garden... I really felt the strain... but it is getting a lot easier now so imagine what I will be like stones lighter...:j:j:j:j I should be able to enter the olympics .. I should get a spring in my step once the excess load has been lost... :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
So, what am I having today ????? Well, as you may or may not know, I have enough food in my home to last approx 10 years so I am not buying any more until I can see the bottom of my freezers again.... well, I found a crown of duck lurking in the depths... so tonight we are having roast duck with a port wine sauce, served with salad or mashed potatoes (I haven't decided which) and a selection of vegetables.. and I might be able to use a little of my quince jelly that I made before Christmas... I have a sweet potato lurking in among my potatoes but I'm not sure what I want to do with it... so I'll leave that for another day...:D
Well, take care of yourselves and keep warm....0 -
Finishing off yesterday's menu, dinner out was chicken breast, jacket potato with sour cream and salad. They didn't do pancakes, bah humbug!
That's a shame about the pancakes... I decided to make them after tea... but after I had made them, I found out my bh had finished my maple syrup...:( so then I remembered that I had bought some butterscotch ice-cream topping for Christmas... so I went and got that from my 10 year store... but guess what ???? He must have been sooking that out of the bottle as well !!!He tried to blame someone else but, as there is just the two of us, he doesn't have a leg to stand on .... so I left him to it....
So I never had any as well.... :beer:0 -
I did have pancakes, and was very strict getting a coffee spoon to measure out the sugar not a teaspoon - actually tasted better and very tangy. Also had a little cherry brandy sauce too - very tasty - on one of them.
Back to being sensible and logical with food being eaten at mealtimes only I think is the best way forward.
One of the biggest wakeup calls i have had is the calories in things like a triangle of T0bl3r0ne - makes little difference when you are burning 1000 calories a day at the gym or riding, but when you are say on your bum doing next door to nothing it makes a huge difference.
And on that note I have put on a pair of previously a bit too tight and not quite elegant trousers - whilst these are not perfect these are looking a LOT better and I can sit after eating in them without having to undo the top button!!!! That is a win!
Whitesatin - this may not work for you but it made a big difference to me when I was struggling with energy (and thank you for the advice given on here which pointed me in the right direction) try swapping the carb stuff for protein. I was suffering badly when eating porridge for breakfast and now I have eggs, (and sometimes avocado) much better. Could be worth changing lunch to be more protein based rather than carb based?
Wednesday, feels like a Monday as I have to catch up from 2 poorly days on the sofa coughing - where is the bottom of my inbox??????Start info Dec11
