Yes, interesting isn't it, but I think there has been a lot of long term reviews done on those following advice from the 80's etc where calories were drastically cut. Hence the term yo yo dieting I suppose.

I have found cutting booze, cheese, sweets and cakes (even homemade) has done it for me. Persuading DH to cut the pre-prepped junk was difficult and reduce portion size, but he is actually on board with this now.

I also just need to MOVE more, I used to make people cry with the amount I'd get done in a day and still have energy for partying, whereas now I am by comparison a sloth. It does not make for a happy companionship.

DH needs to understand what "active" means - he thinks he has an active job and I can assure you it is at best on occasions light sedentary. Want him to wear the heart rate monitor which calculates calorie burn and see for himself, but his head is still in the sand on that score at present!

Onwards towards slenderness and healthy munching!

Had avocado on toast this AM - different but quite nice for a change!

    Hi everyone,

Made some buttermilk scones last night....I should know better than to bake. Worked out that they are 170kcal each, so I have incorporated one into today's food list.

B - 2 x ww wm toast, scraping of marg, morello cherry conserve
L - lo roast pork from Sunday (about 200g)
D - spaghetti, grilled beef meatballs, napoletana sauce
S - buttermilk scone, apple, banana
E - 4+ miles walking (school run, and errands in town)

I didn't have a roll with my (early) lunch as I've already had toast today and will have pasta tonight.

    Have a good day all.

    Good point.
I can still remember a diet I got from a slimming magazine - it was a short term high fibre diet which mainly consisted of lentil soup, pea soup, wholemeal bread and baked beans. It did work, and I thought I'd try it again last year - I lasted 2 days, I just couldn't stand the monotony of tinned soup every day. I much prefer home made soup, and not every day!
It certainly wasn't a diet to help with long term eating habits.

If you could live one day of your life over again, which day would you choose?
  • I've just signed up to a comp that is happening where I work and at our on site gym called The Biggest Looser 2013.

It's based upon loosing fat and getting out of the mind set of 'weight' and calorie counting. For the next 6 weeks, myself and 11 others will be given high energy work outs, food ideas along with as much or as little support from the gym instructor. I have my first work out tonight after work... which (fingers crossed) will go some thing like this:

Warm up - either on the tredmill or bike to raise the heart rate above 120.

    followed by...

Squats, 2 sets of 12 reps
Smith machine/inverted row, 2 sets of 12 reps
Chest press, 2 sets of 12 reps
Leg press, 2 sets of 12 reps
Mountain climbers, 2 sets of 20 reps (20 on each leg)
Plank, 2 sets for 30 seconds
Rower, 1000 meters (timed to see how long it takes)

... then cool down on the treadmill until the heart rate is below 115.

I think it may kill me!! :)

As for food intake, so far I've had:

B - Small bowl of branflakes with raisins
L - Small salad (no dressing), spring onion, chopped chicken breast and two slices of seeded wholemeal bread (a sandwich basically... lol)
S - carrot sticks and one clementine
Drinks - 2 x mugs of tea, and currently working my way through a 1.5 litre bottle of very weak orange squash.

    Still to eat:

    S - Banana and 0% fat yogurt
D - Grilled lamb steak/or pork (haven't decided yet) with a homemade spiced tomato sauce and brown rice

Keep up the good all :) x

    Hi, to you both,

I think the reason they increased the calorie allowance now-a-days is to allow for you to buy all these so-called 'diet', 'low fat' foods and ready prepared meals... that they make zillions of dollars on... because if you were only on 1000 calories a day, you wouldn't be able to buy them as they are usually full of sugar..

I used to be a volunteer with Weightwatchers and I noticed all these years ago, that their own brand (which was linked with Heinz) was twice the price and was really not any more 'slimming' that the normal brand.. To me, everything seems 'gimmicky'.. Also what was interesting, was that almost all the 'slimmer of the year' winners put the weight back on... allegedly :)

Of course, I am just an old cynic .. :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

But, I have finally realised, that they are all out to make money (except the local doctor's diet clinics), and they feed on people grabbing at the chance of a quick fix... and in desperation, we will try anything.... and pay money for it.... :(

So my mantra is: I am not on a diet .... I am not on a diet... :A

    Hi rachie

That's what I do on the wii.... I thoroughly enjoy it...:) The only thing with the Biggest Loser, is in some of the exercises, it is not registering, so it thinks I am not doing it correctly.. but I am and I think it is a problem with the programme...:( and I like the variety that it gives you... I am still on 'moderate' and I do it 4 times a week and it keeps me moving... It starts of with a slow energy build up and then into the exercises and it ends with slowing down with yoga...(that's the only bit I don't like as it bores me to death, but I suppose it's important to do it... :A

Anyway, I've only been doing it for a fortnight... so I'll be looking forward to your posts...
  • Hi All,

Well today, I don't have to cook as I still have the beef casserole that I cooked yesterday and didn't have time to eat... :j so, I am going to change it into 2 steak pies .. I don't have a problem using pastry as I eat it less than once a month and I don't plan to have any other fats today... :A so I'll enjoy it with salad potatoes and veggies.. I also have broccoli and stilton soup on the go so that will be plenty for today... :)

It was also my wii weigh-in this morning so I'll keep the result for Friday but I am still going down... :j I also have to record my measurements and I was quite surprised to see that I have lost an inch of my hips and waist :T but, perhaps someone can tell me why I put on inches on my bust :( Unless I made a mistake when I first measured myself a fortnight ago...

Well, that's all for now... I'll get back to my Cash Book....

    Take care.... still no snow....
  • I am a comfort eater and have an interview tomorrow for a job that I really want and have spent the last two days eating carp. Not looking forward to Fridays weigh in.
I am playing all of the right notes just not necessarily in the right order :D.

home made truffles appeared in the kitchen - so I confess I had 2 - one at 11am and one just now.
very healthy other than that but I am going to head off for my weekly yoga session tonight and I have signed up for classes each of the week days next week. Just got to sort with DH what plans are for the weekend and then work out which classes I can get to. Might try and get to swim tomorrow as the class I can do timewise tomorrow is full already. Really considered going back to old gym as no need for signing up and they do towels, but literally twice the price as I get a huge discount at this gym due to the company private health insurance scheme .....
