    morning all :)

I'm off sick from work, been ill all weekend with a chesty cough/temperature etc. considering heading over to the drop in gp clinic but can't quite muster the energy to leave the house :o
Food over weekend not great as DH been in charge, also no exercise, unless coughing counts ;) I have pulled a muscle in my ribs, so must be doing something strenuous :rotfl:

will get back to logging when I feel better, no appetite in the meantime, so hopefully won't gain anything from the pints of ribena and cough syrup :o

    hi all,
terrible weekend :o too much alcohol and treats but to be honest that was expected.
now the main thing is to get back on the wagon, this has been my downfall in the past, the 'ive blown it so stuff it' menatality. not this time, i am staright back to it to see if i can undo the damage before fridays WI.

    the plan for today is:
    2 x toast & marmite
LO chinese, king prawn & veg in garlic sauce with boiled rice, at least i only ate half yesterday
not sure about dinner may beans or poached egg on toast
aim to keep snacks down to a minimum, maybe an apple or a couple of ryvitas

hope your day is good :)

Wuvvies - while the 80/20 rule does seem to work pretty well I am afraid the weekend is a lot closer to 30% than 20% of the week!

Sugar - I am cutting down on sugar in all forms. I realised I find it very addictive. As an ex smoker I would have find it hard to have just one drag of a cigarette without having more and that's the same part of my brain that compels me to have another biscuit... and another...

I used to tell everyone that sugar was fine, it didn't make you fat and I don't see why people have sugar free stuff all the time... after studying nutrition (for my course and for fun!) and learning to understand how the body uses sugar I now realise how wrong I was. Your body does actually store excess sugar as fat - if enough sugar is consumed to raise the blood sugar level to the point where insulin is released.

A lot of overweight people will say they don't eat much sweet stuff. What they don't realise is that carbs like (most) bread, rice and pasta have a similar effect on your blood sugar as sugary foods, because they are metabolised quickly into glucose. This causes a spike in blood sugar levels, that then dips and causes sugar cravings... This makes them very addictive. How often have you had a bread/pasta craving? I am cutting down a lot on bread and pasta, having extra veg with meals instead. I am not being religiously strict as that's not very Old Style but I am consciously choosing the lower GI carbs, at least until I get off this plateau I seem to be on...

Your body is programmed to make you fat in a way. Survival... the body doesn't know there is a plentiful supply of food, it just wants to to gorge yourself so if there's a famine you will survive longer. So we have a part of the brain that urges us towards sugar and rewards us for eating it with a rush of endorphines...

This is why when trying to lose weight you often feel you are fighting a battle against your body. You are!

i've lost another 1lb making my total so far 6lbs
my knees are still really sore, so i've managed the cross trainer only a couple of times but i'm down to 1/2 a sugar in my tea (down from 2 at the beginning of the year).
i've also started having breakfast and eating way smaller portions, prob about half of what i used to and when DH (who was a bit tipsy at the time) bought me a curry and rice (stupid amount of calories) i used the rice to make stirfried rice and left the curry for him ;)

Having a good day so far

Breakfast: Cereal bar and small glass of smoothie
Lunch: sandwich - 2 slices of wholemeasl bread with aubergine and lentil pate
Dinner: Going to have stir fry with noodles, veg, quorn and blackbean sauce

Snacks: So far have had 2 apples, a satsuma and some grapes. Will probably have a cup of tea and a few gingers nuts tonight.

Exercise: the usual 15 min walk to and from the train station
40 mins session at the gym.

I joined the gym a couple of months ago and am still finding it so hard. I get so angry at letting myself get this overweight and unfit.
