Can I join in please? I have been lurking for a while but have been trying to lose weight and have reached a plateau despite using MFP and sticking to my calories (mostly). I think I probably need to do a bit more exercise but I am generally too exhausted/busy to do any. I would appreciate some motivation and think this thread might help.

I am a bridesmaid twice later this year and don't want to be the fat one! I'd like to lose 12lb in total and keep it off.

    Thanks

Welcome to [STRIKE]the madhouse [/STRIKE]gang :D, do you want the 12 pounds to be your 11 week challenge target?

  • Thanks Dragon. I'm feeling positive about this week. I made a big change tonight by having no sauce with my tea for the 1st time. My second challenge this week is to not have anything sweet after eating, I crave sweet stuff after savoury but surely this is just a habbit?? I hope so. I'm going to to try and walk the dog before work each morning at 6am and a long walk each evening. Will also try swimming again and am joining the beginners jogging club...5 new things to try, lets hope I can do it :)

Nearly 6 stone lost...I think that's amazing, the list of names doesn't seem long enough for us to have achieved that!

    What does tdee stand for?

    Total daily energy expenditure.

I just learned about it yesterday. There's a thread over on the mfp forums that explains tdee and bmr quite well.

Link to the mfp discussion: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/654536-in-place-of-a-road-map-2-0-revised-7-2-12

    Hope this helps! :)

I haven't managed to weigh in for this week as my scales at home don't go up high enough, but I'll try to weigh at work next week.

On the plus side, I've mostly stuck to my mini challenge goals:

I've only had diet coke one day since I started this and I've reduced my intake of tea and coffee too. Instead I've been substituting water and herbal teas.

I missed breakfast twice this week, once because I was running late for work and today because we ate brunch instead. But I've made sure to eat something each day at lunchtime (again, not today as we had brunch).

As to the exercise, I've been walking a little further each time I've taken the dog out, and today we were out for two hours. I'm still getting some breathlessness, but not as badly.

  • Last week, I knew I needed to lose weight... In fact, I have known for years that I need to lose weight! So the first thing I do is forget calories.. The reason for this is that as soon as I go on a 'diet' my brain craves for food... so I am not on a diet! I know by now what to avoid and what I can eat.. so....

What I did first was to put the pot on the cooker and make my 'eat as much as I like' soup... This consists of 1 1/2 pints of water with 2 chicken stock cubes.. I used these mini stock pot thingies that I was keeping for good and then realised that they were near their sell-by-date! I then popped in any chopped up veggies that I fancied (not potatoes though) and threw in a chicken breast (or any bits of chicken/turkey lurking in the freezer) . Once the veggies and chicken is cooked, I chop up the chicken into small pieces and then throw it back in.. The reason I don't put potato or pasta in the soup, is because I like having a slice of bread with it at lunchtime. If I wasn't going to have any bread that day, I would put either chopped potato or a little pasta in it.. If I run out of fresh veggies, I would put in some frozen mixed veg. I like to get a good quality one - which has sweetcorn, peas etc.. so I just pop in a couple of handfuls..

Ideally, you want to end up with 1/3rd veggies & meat and 2/3rds stock.. :)

    Keep fighting the flab!

I can no longer do a sit-up due to bad back so need some new ideas for toning tummy if anyone has any ideas without putting pressure on my back?

Dragons idea of "just pulling it in" may actually be a good one.
I go to an osteopath for back problems, and she told me to try and strengthen my abdominal muscles...by breathing in and holding it. Many times, obviously. The other thing she told me to do was lie on my front and raise myself up a bit on my elbows. They're gentle movements, and probably won't have the effect of exercises people do in gyms, but if it even helps a bit I'm happy to do it.
And hey, standing up straight and breathing in makes us look slimmer!

    MRS_T_M, thanks for the tdee!

If you could live one day of your life over again, which day would you choose?
  • Am I late?
Lost 1/2 lb which is actually not too bad considering I haven't reduced my calorie intake as much as I should. I've just been a bit more active.

    Well done everyone!:T

    Thanks, Rossy2692. :D

I'd love to know what mini goals you choose for yourself. I'm aiming to choose a set a month, with the idea that anything I can do for a month should become ingrained as habit.
