But a Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health report from Northern Ireland found walking on just three days a week gave similar benefits
Oh how I wish I could walk for 30 mins 3 times a week, even once would do! Looking forward to the better weather then I do get outside, even if it's just for meals and to potter in my garden which I love0 -
Molly I too have a disability (lung disease) which doesn't let me exercise as much and often as I would like. Did try a gym for 6 months last year but stopped as I was getting too out of breath. I now do step on my bottom stair, a lot of stretching exercises, if I'm watching television I get up regularly and walk up the stairs a couple of times, make sure I never take the shortest route anywhere (ie walk the long way round the kitchen table to get to cupboards, fridge etc), consciously do tummy/buttock clench exercises when I'm standing - in short any movement which can be exaggerated, I do. It's been a long term process, taken me over two years to lose three stone and drop 3 dress sizes but I can certainly do a little more than I used to, and feel 100% better for it. Where there's a will, there's a way
Well done sparrer, you're a marvellous example of what can be achieved. I think it helps that you've stuck at it long term. We can all do something, however little!

Hi everyone,
Food today:
B - micro porridge, ss milk
L - wm roll with tuna and mayo, 1/2 carton pumpkin and chilli soup
D - small portion of hm macaroni cheese with diced gammon, green beans, broccoli
S - apple, banana
E - Yesterday I walked to school in the afternoon to collect DS2 instead of driving. It's a 2 mile round trip. Hoping to do the same this afternoon provided the weather holdsRunning youth club tonight - that should used up some energy!
I'm with Julie67 on this - exercising, how ever you can, whenever you can, is better than nothing. Who was it that was jogging during the ad breaks? Fair play to you I say

Afternoon all! Hope we are all well
Been a good day, stuck to plan and hope to start the exercise shortly, been out of the exercise for a while since hubs had his heart attack, you would think it would spur me on as he is only 44 and been active at sport for most of his life so with this in mind i shall be hoping to keep him motivated too
Take care all

I agree Sparrer - I would love to walk again. Im mainly confined to barracks and to a chair. I have bought a book called Armchair Gymnastics - but it is hard to feel motivated. Added to which I get very dizzy and black out so am very limited.
I am with you though Sparrer - we have been on this thread a long time and with a little extra effort and care with food - we have both lost weight. Everybody has to do it at their own pace and whatever suits their circumstances.I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.0 -

If we can do it Molly, so can all these young whippersnappers who join up, eat a salad for a couple of days then say they've been at a box of chocolates, or had two portions of strawberry gateau(don't shoot me down please ladies, just kidding and I'm ever grateful for all your support
)
As you say a little effort and care with food, which is the whole principle of the thread, no faddy diets, crash this, cabbage that, just a sensible eating plan, and sticking with it
Good for us! :T0 -

Oooohh, I'd love to be a young whippersnapper again :rotfl:
Seriously, I'm glad you and Molly41 are posting, I was dreading trying to do this knowing I couldn't exercise much, but you're both proof it can be done, thank you.
(Although thinking ahead, I AM planning a piece of gateau as a birthday treat, oops!)

Overcame my carb cravings! With a nice long soak in the tub no less.
B - 1.5 eggs, 2 sausages (84 kcal each)
S - 2 slices applesauce banana bread
L - 1 bowl vegetarian curry
S - HM cheese pizza and a small bowl of popcorn
D - 2 servings of pork pot pie (we are nearly out of chicken!)
E - Cleaning/housework
I've noticed that I really do need to suck it up and add more fruit to my meals/snacks (I don't like many things that are sweet, so fruit is a hard one to get in for me) and I need to drink more water. I'm drinking the 'recommended' amount, but while you're losing fat/weight, you need more water to help flush out any toxins that may come out with it.0 -
Not a bad day today
B - porridge
L - hm leek & potato soup and 2 hm bread rolls
T - chicken piripiri, salad, butternut squash wedges
S - 2 snack a jacks, satsuma, cereal bar
Exercise 5k run!! Getting easier after not exercsising much over Christmas.
Had a sneaky weigh in and seems I've only lost 1/2 lb so far, hope that increases to a lb by Friday (I did lose 2.4lb last week but that doesn't count towards the challenge)
Any loss is good
