Hi there. I would like to join in on this thread please, if that's okay. I am 24 and have been overweight my whole adult life but when I weighed myself at the start of January and realised I was just over 15 stone, I was shocked and thought, I must do something about this. It's really having an affect on my health and I feel so unfit. I can't stand looking in the mirror anymore and shopping is just horrible.
Anyway I have been going to the gym and trying to stick to 1700 calories but finding it so hard. My problem has always been that I have no willpower. I'm with when i'm with my partner etc but as soon as I'm in the house on my own, I snack. I'm a vegetarian which doesn't help, as it's hard to come up with healthy meal ideas without dairy etc.
Anyway, I think I need to lose around 4-5 stone in total but I will say 15lbs for the challenge I have no idea how long this will take me but i'd prefer to just eat sensibly and cut out the junk than go on some faddy diet. I lost 3 pounds last week so my weight at the moment is 14 stone 11.5 pounds.
Sorry for the rant but I just feel like I need to get it all out! Thanks for reading. xxx0 -
Hi All
Happy to report:
1lb loss
this week - hurray - finally moving in the right direction.
Lautz1987 - welcome. It is hard at first but don't give up, eventually your body will get used to the new way of eating. I don't often post on here but I have subscribed and reading about everyone each day really helps to keep me motivated. Last week I gained and I had been really careful what I had eaten. It would have been tempting to give in, but this time I didn't and it has paid off this week with my loss.
Keep going everyone!Me, DH, DS10 and DS60 -

Thanks for the idea, but it's not thirst in my case - I drink loads of water (at least 3 litres a day, not including coffee (or cider)) - not because I should but because I genuinely seem to need that much and feel horribly thirsty if I don't. If I drink much more I'm going to start sloshing when I walk!
I like the idea of a snack of veg sticks and a small amount of hummus, thanks, ragz - I went out at lunchtime and bought a half-cucumber and a bag of mixed peppers to go with the LO hummus I still have sitting in the fridge. It's nice to know that I've now got something to nibble on if I'm starving when I get home again tonight.Back after a very long break!0 -
HI Lauzt1987 - welcome to the thread and well done on taking the big step and starting to tackle your weight problem. You'll find loads of tips and support here. Make sure you read the front page, then have a read through the thread if you feel like it, it can be very motivating.
Vegetarian - People assume vegetarians are all underweight and pale, it's often harder to find support for overweight vegetarians when the rest of us are struggling to say no to an extra sausageI understand the trouble with dairy products, can you swap some of them for lower fat versions (quark, cottage cheese, low fat yogurt, low fat cheeses) and make sure you are getting protein from other sources like pulses? No single non-meat product contains 'complete' protein like meat does, but a good combination of different ones will provide all the amino acids you need. This is especially important when working out as your muscles need those to repair and strengthen. There are some fantastic websites aimed at vegetarians, with nutritional info and recipes (interesting article here)
CCP - that was far too healthy to be my idea (she says, nibbling on a freshly baked gingerbread man!) I think you thanked the wrong personJune Grocery Challenge £493.33/£500 July £/£500

Lautz1987 I am a vegetarian, though I do eat eggs and dairy [I'm guessing you are more a vegan]. I was nearly 15 stones when I started and am now just over 11, it can be done. I tend to eat nuts, lentils, beans, quinoa, houmous etc [which fit in with moneysaving nicely]. Plus lots of fruit and veg.
I think the plus side of being a vegetarian is not being tempted to eat things like sausage rolls, kebabs, Mc Donalds and so on. So although it can be challenging to come up with different meal plans at least we have fewer things to give up.0 -

You're quite right - it was LittleMoog. My apologies to you both.(And now I fancy a gingerbread man. But I'm going to have an apple instead. :A)

Sharon R - I would say soup to start and then either chow mein as suggested or a dish with noodles. Beef in black bean sauce or oyster sauce is quite low i think. King prawn or veggies would be lower than chicken or beef. Avoid fried rice, battered things and prawn crackers.
Or be good rest of week and do a bit more exercise and have what you want!0 -
CCP - I have been having 2 ryvita dipped in salsa - 80 cals or with 2 x ham - 110 cals.0

Well done on all the loses! I'm in the STS club which I am relieved about as up until Wednesday I was making some pretty shoddy food choices.
Back on track though and hoping for 1lb next week.0 -
