    Hi all

    Happy new year :j

I have to lose weight this year due to ongoing health problems. Losing weight can be difficult as I suffer PCOS however I am not going to let that be an excuse any longer.

I have an interim goal of 1st April which as approx 12 weeks by that point I'd like to have lost approx 1 1/2 stone which is a bit more than a pound per week.

    My plan is to:
    • Eat healthier
    • No takeaways
    • Use my treadmill 5 times per week
    • Reduce potion sizes
    • Track food consumed
    • Treat this as a lifestyle
    • Don't feel guilty if 1 day goes off track
    • Don't allow people to sabotage my efforts
    • Keep focused on 'why I'm doing this'
    • Do not have things in the house that will tempt me

Good luck to all who will be challenging themselves in 2013

    X

Are you wanting to join in the 12 week challenge then MrsRogers?

Having spent a lazy morning browsing MSE Forums that I do not usually visit I have read through a few pages of this one and have decided to join. I have been on the scales for the first time in at least 6 months only to have it confirm what my clothes were already telling me. I am very overweight. I have calculated my BMI and I am obese. I need to loose 3st 3lb  to get to the top of the "normal"" section of the BMI range scales. I can not afford to go to a diet club and do not believe that faddy diets are a healthy way of loosing weight.

I have to take medication to prevent sever migraines and one of the side effects is weight gain. I suspect that I have probably used this and being middle aged as a convenient excuse to not watch my diet. I am currently suffering with back problems following a car accident and I am on medication for high blood pressure. I have a very strong family history on both sides of heart disease. All of this will be improved by loosing some weight.

Exercise is not really an option at the moment due to the back pain but I can improve my diet. Comitting this all down in print will help to focus me and now I have something to prove to people (always a motivator for me).

Please add me to your challenge. I aim to loose 10lb over the 12 week challenge.

One tip I have is when making a white sauce for things such as cauli/broc cheese swap half of the milk for the same volume of chicken stock. Cuts a few calories and tastes very good.

looking forward to sharing OS diet tips with you all.

    Mrs VP

Got you down (and would veg stock work as well?)

Wishing you good health and miraculously easy weight loss!

Dragon - please put me down for 7 lbs thank you
Can't see me losing as much as that but I shall surely try. Was going to join the gym this week but it's quite scary taking that first step

Another low calorie alternative if you're a pizza lover is to buy the Warburton square wraps and use them as pizza bases.

I did WW in 2011 and often used them when the rest of the family were having supermarket pizza. If anyone has done WW propoints they used to work out at about 7-8 points with the cheese compared to 15 points for half a shop pizza!

I used to spread tomato puree on them, few herbs or chilli flakes, small portion of grated low fat cheddar and then any veg topping, mushrooms, peppers, onions etc put them in the oven for literally 5 minutes and serve with a salad and butternut squash wedges. really filling and low fat/low calories tea!

Can't wait to see all the losses we are going to have!

A very happy, healthy and peaceful New Year to everyone
Welcome to all the newbies, hope you all stay and make some good changes in the coming weeks

Last night wasn't quite as bad as it could have been, the buffet definitely wasn't beige :D. I did jackets with prawns, and/or rf cheese and/or coleslaw, sweet potato crisps and crudites with salsa, mushroom and salmon dips, tomato and blue cheese salad, and a Beds Bungle (my version of Eton Mess) for pud. I catered for five although was only expecting three and there was barely a crumb left - I love it when people appreciate my food :), especially as there was no meat as one lady is veggie.

Started today with a small bowl of F&F, had a spoonful of chickpea curry for lunch and will have a jacket -cooked a extra one for today-for dinner with rf cheese and tomato.

Hope everyone had the same beautiful, sunny start to the New year we had here :)
  • The Dragon I think that veg stock would work very well.

Ellie99 I am going to do a little gentle walking this week in preparation for next week when I will have to walk home from work every day. It is only a 20 min walk and I am planning on increasing it so that I am walking both to and from work.
I am playing all of the right notes just not necessarily in the right order :D.

I make my white sauce without fat. I warm the milk in saucepan and in a cup mix cornflour with some more milk( sorry don't know quantities just trial and error). Once the milk is hot I add the cornflour milk and stir until thick. Works just the same with powered milk made up- very moneysaving.

Just made broccoli and stilton soup - used up ageing broccoli, onion and potatoes from the fridge and a lump of left over Xmas stilton. Added up the cals using the exact weights I used and it made 3 good portions each at 220 cals, so a nice healthy low cal tea. Had it with 2 pieces of stale bread that I toasted - a real penny pinching meal! 2 for the freezer too for days that I'm too pooped to cook after work.:)
