Well I've been and watched the Horizon episode that thread was about, on You Tube and it is really interesting, I recommend watching it. A lot of science to back up the methods and amazing results in disease reduction. They focussed more on reducing ageing relate disease risks rather than weight loss, although he did lose a stone in 5 weeks by eating 600 calories a day two days a week and normally on the other 5.
I said above that I thought you would eat more on the normal days but they found that with short term fasting it was only an increase of about 10% which no where near made up for the fast day so they were eating much less overall.
I stand corrected, always happy to learn
Must try it! Got to be old style surely?

Re: the fasting idea, I have friends who fast, who tell me they actually wind up gaining weight in the long run. I wouldn't recommend it because of that little reason most fad diets fail - when you go back to eating normally 7 days a week, the weight will just come back again.0

I know I couldn't fast - I'm too greedy!
Been for a walk with the dog in the park this morning and then did a quick 2.6K run (loop around where I live) - its funny that I think of that as a little jog now whereas a few weeks ago I couldn't run to the end of the road! If its cool enough this evening I may go again as I'll have no dog to walk because he's going to my mum's this afternoon to be spolit rotten while I'm on hols.
Will make sure that I eat some early lunch at home before I set off down the motorway to "exchange" the dog with mum in a motorway service station (she lives almost 4 hours away). Don't need to buy naughty snacks in the petrol station, even put petrol in yesterday so I have no excuse to go in!
Not sure about tea but will pop back later with an update.
Have a lovely day in the sun!0 -
Morning all
WelshWoofer, thanks for the shred lady email (sorry I cant remember her name, she's just too scary), it makes so much sense, going to print it out and stick it on the fridge. Next time I'm struggling it will remind me to go back to basics.
Minicooper, I use lf greek style yoghurt as its thicker than ordinary and makes your bread less soggy. I've also tried the very lf hellmans (10 cals per tablespoon), hubbie didnt even notice the difference.
Molly, I'm not sure I could manage on 600 calories, its seems so little. My first reaction was the same as ragz and minicooper, but I will try and look at the link from ragz later.
Today's plan
B: all bran and fruit
L: pasta and veg sauce (?salad)hm chicken egg fried rice (I use low cal spray)
S: banana, lf yoghurt, ? biscuit
Ex: running made easy wk2. no 2 walk/run, dog walking, housework and the weekly food shopping (I hate shopping, hence the biscuit treat for going)
Hope everyone has a good Saturda

How about having it in a salad instead then you could make a simple salad dressing to pour over- 2 parts olive oil, 1 part vinegar plus black pepper. If having it for lunch mix it up but take it seperate then just before eating give it a shake and pour over, you could then have 1/2 a pitta bread or a slice of dry toast to go with it?WelshWoofer wrote: »
Examine your hunger. The next time you feel hungry between meals, consider the last time you ate. If it was less than three to four hours earlier, your stomach isn't growling, and you're not weak or tired, you're probably emotionally unsatisfied in some way rather than genuinely physically hungry.

Hi all, am gardening today so getting some exercise... it is mostly pottering but that's movement so it's all good.
I have much more energy today, it helps that it's a little cooler but I really think portion control and not overdosing on carbs all day is helping.
I did have a little wobble yesterday and snarfed some crisps. Actually it was a big wobble but I managed to put it behind me and stick to portion control for tea.
Today:
B cornflakes skim milk
S melon
L shredded wheat, skim milk
S soya milk, iced with coffee
D pasta with stir fry veggies and chicken (watch that pasta portion JPS!!)I believe in the freedom of spinach and the right to arm bears.
