+7.6 lbs this week :(, excuse me whilst I curl up and sob in the corner. I am not doing anything different, my thyroid has been checked and that came back fine again (so medication levels are right) - so I have no idea what has happened and I am gutted and wondering why I even bother.

    Morning all :)

Dragon, that sounds like a random aberration to me, we all get days when we're holding loads of fluid for some random reason. I think it's physically impossible that you've eaten enough extra calories to gain 7+ lbs in a week - that would be over 24500 calories more than you needed! Why not weigh again in a few days, and in the meantime try to avoid salty foods, and drink loads of water to see if you can flush it out of your system. I know Ican gain about 5lb 2 days before my period, and it will be gone 4 days later.

Watermelon88 The best way to make things cheaper is to cook large batches and freeze extra portions. Also use cheap pulses etc to round things out. I always add ~200g green lentils to anything I make with a pound of mince, and I can get 6-8 portions from it, as opposed to 4, depending what it is.
For veg that last, try buying frozen, some are just as good, and they're always ready to use. We have frozen peas, broccoli, broad beans and sprouts in the freezer at the moment.
I've found it easier to make the meals I already cooked healthier, rather than going for whole new recipes, so I reduced portion sizes, and use less oil etc, as it's a longterm lifestyle change and not a "diet". I also use MFP to track my calories, it works really well for me.

As for me, busy weekend coming up (when isn't it?!), family lunch out tomorrow and it's our wedding anniversary on Sunday so DH is taking me out for lunch. Went shopping last night and stocked up on fridge things so have plenty of healthy snacks and sandwich fillings etc. Also bought peaches and nectarines which I love, but forgot I was getting a punnet in my veg box this week so may have to find something to make with them before they all go off!

    Meals;
    Breakfast: granola bar, babybel, peach
Lunch: mango and strawberries, bag hula hoops, cheese salad sandwich
    Snack: breakaway, apple
Dinner: meatballs, sauce and mash as I didn't make it yesterday, we had steak fajitas instead as got some woopsied frying steak :D nom nom nom

Hmm, this sounds luvverly, could I be cheeky and request the recipe?

It was delicious and I'd be happy to help! :) Its a free recipe card I pinched from Waitrose, but I amended it so it didn't work out to be too expensive. It serves 4.

    • Preheat the oven to 200 degrees C.
    • Whizz 2 white rolls (any type, or you can use 4 slices of bread), 4 garlic cloves, a handful of rosemary (fresh or dried is fine) in a food processor. I added fresh parsley as well, as I had some going off. Stir in 1 tbsp olive oil to the mix.
    • Thinly slice 4-5 tomatoes and 2 large courgettes (you can 'ribbon' the courgette with a veg peeler, but I just sliced it as thin as possible).
    • Layer up the veg and breadcrumbs in a baking dish - i.e. layer of toms, layer of courgette, layer of breadcrumbs. Finish with a top layer of breadcrumbs and a sprinkle of grated mature cheese.
    • Bake for 40-45mins, until golden brown on top.
    Yum!:)

Anwyay, I'm happy to announce a 2lb loss today :T:T
    Very pleased.

EDIT: I just thought I'd add - you can make this recipe a bit more weight loss friendly by going easy on the grated cheese or using less of a very strong cheese (like parmesan), and only having 1 layer of breadcrumbs.
    :)

I really feel for you dragon, its is absolutely gutting when the scales confront you with a number like that. I would try and take comfort in the fact its highly unlikely even half of that gain is a proper gain - ie you've gained 7lbs worth of fat. I think you would pop if you ate as many calories as that would require! I bet its mainly fluid retention for some reason.
I've been in exactly the same boat as you, I fluctuate wildly and can easily lose or gain half a stone within a week. I now try not to let such crazy results affect me too much and remember that they will even themselves out. I hope this doesn't get you down too much. Next weeks result WILL be better!

Dragon, I second LittleMoog, its probably just bloating, we all sometimes put on random amounts for no apparent reason. Has your digestive system been working ok?

fattybumble, agreed, I think as women, weight fluctuation goes with the territory!

After my kick up the butt a couple of weeks back when I realised I have to try harder or try something else, I am delighted with how my week has gone and so pleased to be getting my smiley faces(s) back on the scoreboard with a 2lb loss

I find this quite amazing and can honestly say that in trying to do the low GI thing, I have had no cake, no chocolate, no cake, no crisps and no biscuits for over a week and it wasn't any hardship whatsoever. I never thought I would say this, but I just never felt the need.

It's not all good however, I have just eaten takeaway fish and chips and a cream cake too . :rotfl:

Thanks N2BT it did feel good as I'm rather a busty gal anyway.

WI 2LB loss at last! I'm with everyone else on the weird weight fluctuations I can easily gain 5/6lb PM then lose it over 2 days. It's a pain when you're trying to judge if you're continuing to lose weight though.
Another booze free ,crisp free weekend ahead but 2 weeks today and I'm jetting off to Sri Lanka so head down and get those last 2lb off!

    Have a good weekend everyone.

Some great results coming in today, well done :T

The Dragon - Weigh yourself again tomorrow, honestly that is just a blip, it CANNOT be real weight gain. Keep weighing daily until you realise that, it will keep you on track.

Watermelon88 - Welcome to the thread. Some great advice given already here, it really IS possible to eat healthily on a low budget, it just requires thought and planning rather than buying what 'they' want us to buy (cheap processed rubbish!). Try Weelzl's CheapFAmilyRecipes site. Specifically the recipes with 3 or more of your 5 a day
Start liking lentils and eat a lot of soup. I try to always have soup for lunch, I lose weight best that way. Soup is filling and nutritious and can be made with cheap veg. ALDI if you can get there is THE best for fruit and veg but otherwise buy frozen, tinned, whatever you have to.

I have weighed msyelf today and the 1lb gain has 'just' gone so I can claim a STS. I am still really sore from the 30 day shred! Did yoga yesterday so no shred, hoping to do it today but I have been so bad afterwards I had to drive kids to school yesterday and back as my legs hurt so much so any calories I burned doing the shred I have cancelled out! Will give it another go today if I can, but OUCH!

I did watch The Men Who Made Us Fat (I have a book on a similar theme), DH finally admits I am right when I tell him sugar can make you fat! Interesting about the Fructose though, maybe fruit isn't the saviour us dieters thought it was?
