    Evening All

I've just finished watching 'The Men Who Made Us Fat' on BBC 2. I knew the current thinking was leaning more to thinking sugar is bad for us and away from fat but this really reinforced it. Did anyone else watch it? It was part I of a 3 part series.

    B: Muesli and sultanas
L: Egg salad - with rocket, baby spinach, cherry tomatoes, pickled beetroot and coleslaw. Strawberry fromage frais.
D: Sole with a lemon and pepper dusting, spinach creamed with mushrooms, onions and garlic, broccoli, new potatoes and butter. HG stewed gooseberries with Greek yoghurt.

Exercise: 1 hour Pilates, running up and down the garden with DGD and a ball for 15 minutes, 30 lengths of the swimming pool and a 6 mile walk, plus walking to class and back this morning which is another mile or so.

Onwards and upwards, though...well, downwards first...:rotfl:. My confession from yesterday is that the work buffet lunch was too much for me to resist, and I did eat too much bread/cheese/cheese biscuits. I also ate lots of fruit too :A

I'm glad I'm not the only one! Today I feel like eating proper food again, and it just happened to coincide with team lunch - a.k.a sandwich buffet! I wasn't as bad as usual, but I wasn't good either. I keep looking at some of the other girls in the office eating just half a sandwich and a banana though, how do they survive?

Tomorrow is back on track and back to exercising. I did buy some light chocolate desserts today for the week ahead, something to take the edge off my sweet cravings for less than 90 calories!

Fattybumble85 - hope the OH is ok, he'll probably feel it tomorrow morning!

I totally identify with all those who are struggling with the chocolates and biscuits. My intentions are always good but then life just gets in the way. It's been very busy - and therefore stressful - over the last 48 hours. Today was my day off and I spent it doing the foodshop and then sat at the computer trying not to get cross that I couldn't get into the garden!
Anyway yesterday was not as bad as it could have been and there was chocolate today - but I just about stopped myself from having an all out session on it!
    B - yoghurt, L - stilton and cucumber sandwich + apple, D - salmon, jp and salad + strawberries and chocolate sludge:eek:. Snacks - 1 (large) fruit scone + 2 cheesebiscuits.
    Nearly the weekend!

  • Ok. So I didn't read through this entire thread as it is way to late and way to long.. I may have a crack at it though.

I've recently been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes which has kick started my need to lose weight. Before that I kept putting it off, even though I have back problems and PCOS both of which will be helped by losing the weight!

I use My Fitness Pal on the iphone, and it is handy keeping tabs on what I have.

The biggest issue I have, is our low food budget and buying healthy food that lasts between shops.

We have £50 a fortnight to do the grocery shopping with, that has to cover:

Delivery costs (we do it online)
    Pet food & litter
    Household items
    Food & drink for two.

By the time we get down to what we have left for food and drink there is barely anything leftover. It's almost £20 alone for the animals.

Why oh why is healthy food so much more expensive than non healthy?! Plus fresh fruit and veg doesn't always last the two weeks in between shopping deliveries, all in all it's very hard.

Even when I manage to cobble together a decent food budget I have no idea what things to buy to feed us for two weeks on healthy food! I can come up with one or two meals but they work out so expensive. I need a lesson in budget shopping and what to buy etc.

I stay away from ready meals as they're high in fat and sugar which is not good being diabetic.

I have cook books and things but half the stuff in them we don't like.

:-( no wonder I'm struggling with the will power! On the plus side I'm getting used to the taste of lettuce :-D

    Firstly - welcome!!!! :j

I'm sorry, I don't have much time in the morning, but I'm sure you'll get lots of suggestions here, and also it might be a good idea to take a wander round the old style forum - the grocery challenge is particularly friendly and helpful (I've gone off track this month stocking up for the winter:eek:, but most months I have my grocery bill inc cat food for 2 reduced to under £100, and others do FAR better than that)

Also, do take some time, if you can, to read postings on this thread. Lots of us post our meal menus for the day, and you'll pick up a varied diet (not from me though, living on my own means I eat the same thing to use it up quite a lot :rotfl:)

I don't agree that healthy food is more expensive than non healthy though - do you have an Aldi or Lidl near you? If so, go and take a look at the cost of the veges & fruit there - it's good stuff and MUCH cheaper than the big 4 SMs. And if you can, cook as many pulse based meals as a substitute for meat - very cheap & filling and VERY healthy.

As for pet food, I have 2 cats and a large bag of dried food lasts one 3 mths + at £30, so I have their bill down to around £20 a month, half yours. But, of course, you may have Great Danes or something! :rotfl:There's a pet forum, too, so take a wander on there, and don't be afraid to ask people for advice there, lots of good people on those threads too.

Right, got to go, hope that's a wee start for you, but do't be afraid to ask questions. I thought I did ok with my money until I came onto these forums.... I have really had my eyes opened how much I was actually wasting!

    Good luck

    Morning All

Good luck with your Weigh Ins! I'm sure you'll all have done great. I'm still not bothering to weigh in as it's taking the pressure off for a wee while.

Yesterday...gosh, I NEVER stopped, finally collapsed in a heap in bed around 10.30, but slept like a log until 5.30 - whey hey! Exhaustion is the way forward :rotfl:Food-wise, I was ok...not great, but MUCH better than a week or so ago,

    Today's plan is -

    Brekkie - HM Muesli

Snack - banana filched from yesterday's working lunch as I didn't have time to shove it down my gullet.

Lunch - small quarter of hm onion quiche, salad, hm chutney, and lots of sprouty alfafa things for the first time :T

Dinner - portion of macaroni cheese from freezer

As it's Friday, I'll no doubt have a treat of w&c, and I'll enjoy it! I did all my shopping last night, so I can come home at a reasonable time tonight and relax. Shame the weather has changed from being quite nice the last few days to 'orrible rain for the weekend.

    Have a good Friday, everyone.

Well done russetred that must feel fantastic, this reminds me it must be time to get the old tape measure again and compare the measurements I took back in January.
