Had a nightmare yesterday - came back from the gym after a 5k run (good), and was so hungry I scoffed half a pot of cottage cheese before dinner (bad) and yet was still able to eat a massive portion of dinner (also bad)....
Any ideas on how to hold off the pre-dinner hunger anyone? I'm thinking maybe have a small glass of s/s milk and an apple.
A banana before the gym or class always did it for me. And I always had my evening meal ready to zap in the microwave too, so that I knew it was only going to be a few minutes before I'd satisfy my hunger. Mind, I also found that I was (slightly) less hungry when I exercised, too :T0 -
Lovely sunny day up here so got 2 lots of washing out. Feeling a bit run down with a lingering cold but at least its not whooping cough which apparently has hit our high school. Monday went like this
B: panini with boiled egg, mayo and wafer ham
L: plate of buffet food
T: bowl of ham and lentil soup
S: hummus and red papper sticks
E: none"Sometimes life sucks....but the alternative is unacceptable."0 -
I think this is a summary of TMD
No pork and no shellfish
Ideally only non pasteurized milk
No sunflower oil (ghee however is fine) or other transfats...
Walk everywhere!!!!...
So today I've walked to the post office (a good 1/2 mile away) and back and after my jog of yesterday I feel wrecked (jogging is not prescribed on TMD but walking and cycling are) so nap time

Need2bThrifty - Yes, arancini is just that, you can add ragu to it as well. Although they are apparently notoriously hard to make!
Also, I noticed you've put liver on your food diary. Do you normally stir fry it? I wanted to buy some as it's so cheap for meat but I'm a bit scared of what to do with it (apart from fry it with onions, like when I had it as a child). What flavours go well with liver?
I love liver....it tends to be Ox liver that I buy (it's a Scottish thing) and soak it in milk for a bit as that's supposed to help soften the strong flavour of it. There are three ways that I cook it, as you say fry it and have it with loads of fried onions, I occasionally coat it in oatmeal (that's pinhead oatmeal as opposed to rolled/porridge oats) instead of flour before frying - gives it a nice crunchy coating. I stew it like any other meat just with onions, carrots, turnips, sometimes add bacon or butter beans to make it stretch, it does tend to toughen up when stewed. Stir frying was something I concocted one evening when I had some veg to use up and did some onions, peppers & broccoli along with the liver and put in a dollop of oyster sauce & soy sauce - I liked it but aware that it may not be to everyone's taste

I'm thinking of doing the 'maker's diet' (without all the extra vits LOL or the non pasteurized milk)...
Anyone done it? Anyone know where I can get kefir in the UK?
E
Do you want milk kefir or water kefir?
You can often get milk kefir on freecycle so ask there first, even if no-one has any at that precise point in time they may be able to offer some in a week or two as it grows reasonably fast. If not then try the Fermented-foods-UK group on Yahoo.
Water kefir is less common but you may be lucky and IME that grows really fast, especially if you throw an eggshell in it (never tried that with milk kefir but it might work with that as well). Top of the range of water kefir as 'twere is a proper ginger beer plant. Best source for this is by all accounts is Jim at The Ginger Beer Plant. I got one from him and it's yummy, much softer than the other kefirs I've tried. In fact I just managed to kill mine (more difficult than you might imagine) and ordered a new starter yesterday evening.Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants - Michael Pollan

LavenderBees - thanks for the banana idea, I'll try it tonight! I'm normally not hungry at all when I've just exercised, probably due to the amount of water I've drunk, but after the 35min journey home (which includes 25min of walking) I'm starving! I should be a bit more on the ball with preparing my dinners for the week in advance.
Need2b - your liver ideas sound delicious! I am going to buy a pack straight away. I've never heard of pinhead oatmeal but it looks cheap from the internet. It looks a lot more versatile than regular oats. I have some stir fry veg so I will definitely cook that with some liver and soy sauce. Yum yum yum.0 -

Tread warily is my advice. Perhaps explain that you already have plans, but maybe at the weekend a treat would be nice...
It's a difficult one though. My neighbour & friend has been bringing round treats for weeks, and I don't think it's a coincidence that it started when I said I was cutting down. I think some people just can't help themselves. I've tried saying no thanks, but I got the feeling that she wasn't happy with me being assertive
, so I'm now taking what is offered and it's all gone in the freezer (even though I really don't want any of it). This keeps us both happy-ish, though I'd rather she just didn't try sabotaging my efforts to make myself happier.
I often think it's best just not to mention anything to anyone, and then they just don't notice...:)
