Welcomei 2ba3c. I am going down the low fat route (can't be faffed with calorie counting etc) but am on my own so don't know if it would be suitable for a LO.
I basically replace foods with fat in, ie ff yogurt instead of spread, slim soups/home made instead of tins, fresh veg/fruit instead of cakes & biscuits. I only have pasta/bread/potatoes about once a week, in moderation. I buy full fat milk and dilute it 50/50 (certainly not suitable for children). Don't know how quickly you want to lose, I'm not rushing it but have lost just under 2 1/2 stones in 14 months.
Cooking from scratch is fine for me as I don't work so have time to 'play' in the kitchen. Fortunately I love cooking which helps. I bulk cook meals which can freeze - casseroles packed with veg for instance, and it's possible to do a low fat roast by cooking the meat on a rack and baking the potatoes/parsnips with a tiny amount of oil. It really isn't necessary to pour a great big dollop of oil in the pan.
I find low fat the easiest option and it's working for me. I expect someone more in the know will come along and point you in the right direction soon. Good luck, hope you enjoy it as much as I do
eta re cost, I find fresh food is generally cheaper than processed. I know my grocery bill has gone down considerably and continues to do so as I find out what to buy, and where to buy it. hth0 -
Evening all, I haven't been posting much either, I've been very busy and tired so haven't had much time to get to the computer. I've been overeating too, so I'm hoping for a STS this week.
Meals today:
B: porridge with raisins, coffee with ss.
L: hummus sandwich, fruit.HM low fat lasagne (from freezer)
Snacks: a few nuts
Exercise: none.
Welcome 2ba3c. I don't calorie count either, it's just not for me. A lot of people on here do though.
I try to focus on eating healthily and not having junk food. I cook from scratch and 'batch cook' for the freezer a lot. I use low fat ingredients wherever possible and stretch as needed. For example I use steak/lean mince and add extra veg and lentils to make it stretch to more meals. I also use the slowcooker a lot for casseroles from cheap meat. OH and I both take pack ups to work (the teenagers have lunch money, we choose to prioritise that). Mine and OH's weight and the grocery bill are going down, slowly but surely.[FONT="][FONT="] Fighting the biggest battle of my life.Started 30th January 2018.

Hi all
Well done those of you who are doing well, and commiserations with (?to?) those who aren't ......
I haven't weighed in this week because I had two VERY "bad" days last week, and basically I find it so demoralising if I've put on weight, so I'd rather just not get on the scales and wait a fortnight instead of a week before weighing myself.
I won't recount the full details of the bad days - suffice it to say they both involved (very) large amounts of alcohol and Indian food :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
However I'm back on track now, and hopefully can stay on track at least till the next weigh-in!0 -

Good morning everyone.
Like others, I've kind of had a bad week, especially yesterday. I've stopped cooking proper meals eating sandwiches instead and too many little treats. I honestly think I've become a little bit too complacent as I no longer feel or really look 'fat', so I've just stopped trying so hard.
So time to draw a line and start again. I know I can do it, after all I've done it for 7 months now.
My meal plans are -
B- porridge with dried fruit
L - wholemeal pitta, LF halloumi, tatsziki
D -lentil and veg curry, quinoa
S's - fresh fruit, brazil nuts.
Will be going swimming later which always helps to motivate me.
Have a good day everyone.0 -

Been one of those weeks for me also, week has flown by and feet barely touched the floor - which means inevitable bad food choices. The weather has been really oppressive, dark, damp and very humid which always makes me feel really CBA and lethargic. I went to yoga on Monday and have done no exercise since, so not expecting any miracles on the scales tomorrow.Mortgage

I am on day 4 of the dukan diet-you eat protein only for 2-10 days and then eat protein plus certain veggies for 5 days.
It's hard at the moment-but the results are amazing-I can literally feel the fat coming off and because you only eat protein-and you can have as much as you like you don't have to feel hungry.
I would have only done it for 3 days (protein only days are the days when you lose most) but I am away on holiday next week-so am making a bigger effort.
Dr Dukan in his book says you can do 1 day protein only and alternate with protein and veg only -it works just the same.
I've got both his books-diet and recipe which are great.
I now have NO sugar cravings and was totally addicted to sugar and sweet things before.
I am not even bothered by all the boxes of chocs I got for my birthday-and until I read his books I hadn't quite appreciated just how troublesome fruit can be.
I ate loads of fruit before. In fact I miss that more than chocolate.0 -
I have been bad recently. Not terrible, still mostly veggie and thinking of calories, but more wine and crips than I should have had!
I am back on the wagon now...Managed to only gain 1lb. Still need to get started on the 30 day shred!0
