Well, today is another day....
Listen ladies and any gents....
If you are going to eat something that you shouldn't... at least enjoy it while you do and savour the moment and don't feel bad about after... Just move on to what you normally eat... :A
If you beat yourself up about what you have done (mind you I have done that for over 40 years), you'll find it harder to stay on your own personal track... I don't have any foods that I am not allowed (except for health reasons) so, if it is something that is considered a no-no, I would eat less of it ... For example, my downfall is cheese... so I buy really strong tasting cheese so that I use a lot less of it in cooking... rather than buy the plastic, low fat rubbish... I buy butter rather than getting low fat stuff... I just use a lot less of it.. as butter improves the flavour of a lot of foods.. so does cheese....mmmmm
Last night I found some pork and leek sausages in the freezer and 1/2 a lb of beef mince... so I took out a big bowl this morning... skinned the sausages and mixed through the beef and changed it into meatballs... I didn't have time to make the meatballs from scratch, plus I am trying to use up some of the meat in the freezer... I then fried the meatballs and then drained off the fat.... I then poured over a red wine gravy that I had bought for christmas and never used... so that's ready for tea-time.. I am also boiling some salad potatoes, which I'll skin and add to the pot and then I just have to re-heat the lot and pop it down on front of hubby & son... I could pour in some frozen peas ....
I'll have very little of the meal as I am usually going around like a mother hen making sure they are alright and before I know it, I have hardly eaten anything...
Don't worry, with the amount of extra weight I am carrying, it will be a while before I fade away to nothing :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
A quick tip for anyone who is interested.... If you make your own meatballs, always almost cook them in a frying pan, moving them gently as necessary and THEN add them to any sauce or gravy... If you try and cook them in a liquid, you'll find they will tend to break up... Just a thought0 -

officeguru I hear what you say about not beating ourselves up and I agree we should enjoy the extra food and move on.
The problem is when it is eaten in a compulsive, non-thinking way, just to fill a huge gap which is not hunger. This sort of eating cannot be enjoyed, it is a mechanical action and a pattern which is very difficult to break. It does not come from physical hunger but from something a lot deeper.
Personally I am trying to address this aspect of my eating but it takes time and effort and it might take the need for professional help at some point.
Today was less disastrous but I managed to slip in 2 scones with butter. The first was enjoyed, the second was a compulsion. Other than this I had good healthy food:
B. Scrambled curried spicy eggs with vegetables and fresh coriander
L. Veg millet and lentil soup, yogurt with nuts and seeds and a chopped apple.
S. The two scones (while out meeting a friend)
D. A few cashews while cooking, steamed potatoes, sprouts, green beans and smoked haddock with a drizzle of olive oil.
For any of you doing the 5:2 I have a question: how do you manage to cope with the hunger? I really want to try it out again but am worried I won't be able to function! Thank you. Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -
