I feel I am going to find this journey to sveltedom much harder than I envisaged
If only Christmas was in March, so much easier to begin a new fitness challenge when the weather is warmer and you can be much more active and discard clothes and also have no tempting leftovers in the house. I probably have 4-5 items here that I should bin as worrying me so much. I have hidden them away hoping they will survive unopened to take next weekend when visiting my son and his family. It has taken me just over 8 years to put on this unwanted weight. I have not been at all bad today but found myself obsessing about food. Enjoyed going on the Wii although it made me feel guilty as as said it was 436 days since I was last on it
I will lock myself away in my ivory tower early tonight away from the kitchen. Sundays are never a good day for me

Hi everyone
I know I'm a day late but is it ok to join you? I had vowed that last year would be the year I got fit and lost weight but it didnt happen. So then I said 2014 would be the year, and have eaten nothing but chocolate and biscuits since the new year! So now I need some support to get started and a challenge sounds like just they way to do it. I weighed in yesterday at 10st11 which is a bit more than I want to be at 5'4. So starting from tomorrow it's healthy eating, fruit and veg and exercise all the way.
my target fo the 12 weeks is 10lbs which I think should be achievable.

Oh dear. Reading about all your exercise plans is making me feel really guilty as I am very limited as to the physical activity I can undertake due to Psoriatic Arthritis. Some days even walking is difficult. :eek:So all I can normally do is some gentle stretches and try to watch my diet.
I have got rid of any excess Christmas 'naughties' and intend to buy only healthy food.
Good luck to all of you.:)Use it up, Wear it out, Make it do, Do without.0 -
If anyone wants to go and buy a smaller-than-dinner plate they're officially called fish plates or entree plates. I use one for my main meal and a cereal bowl if it's pasta.
Not the best start to the week but Sunday is my dinner out day, and I do try to make wise choices. Trouble is I love those churro's!
B - slice hm wm toast, scrape butter, marmalade
D - child portion of roast pork, 2 roast tatties, piece of parsnip 1/2 a yorkie (too dry to eat it all), peas and carrots. Was tasty but the adult portion which my friend had, had leeks and broccoli. Why do some restaurants think children only eat peas and carrots? Mine would have asked for the 'adult' veg.
Pud - 2 churros with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Refused the chocolate sauce.
T - 2 Crackerbread, 1xvegemite, 1xrf cheese & pickle
S - satsuma, baton carrots, handful nuts
ps I still have that large tin of roses chocs I bought in October in the spare bedroom, will take it to DD tomorrow because the temptation is now getting just a little too much !0 -

AOT don't worry you're not alone here. Some of us can't do much due to various conditions, in my case it's copd so can't breathe for long. Like you I do gentle stretches, I also use the bottom stair for 'step' exercises even if it's only 5 or 6 at a time, pulling myself up with the bannister and hand rail 'they' attached to my wall for me. I also use the wall to do a few standing push-ups, only they're called push-offs - which is what I wish all our illnesses would do . Controlled breathing exercises can help too, they keep my tum from being too big by exercising the muscles.
Would be interested to read what other adapted exercises people do as every little helps0 -

Don't get disheartened AOT, I'm sure you can still make a difference.
When I started this last January, I could only potter about the house due to a spinal injury, and I still managed to lose. I can walk a bit more now, but even now all I do for exercise is a little bit of walking.
I've been advised never to jog or run, not even to cross the street!
I'm meant to be trying pilates for my back problem, but like others have said tonight, I'm not very co-ordinated, and I'm putting off going because I know I'll be rubbish at it
I think the saying is "weight loss is 80% diet, 20% exercise" so it's still achievable, even if it takes a little longer...I never hope for more than 1 pound a week (although after what I've had tonight, I'll be lucky to lose anything at all!)
If you could live one day of your life over again, which day would you choose?0 -

Hello AOT, hugs, and you're not alone. Like you, some days I have trouble with walking and sometimes my head feels too heavy for my neck so I am sat in my winged armchair as it props my head up, so little activity there. I will join you in concentrating on gentle stretches and diet.
