    Hi all

Was doing ok today but had a bit of a difficult moment, long boring story, went to see a friend and need eating 1 and a half buttered crumpets with my tea (for comfort), but it could have been much worse as I was really upset! Here's my day:

    B. scrambled curried egg with mushroom, pepper, spinach, onion and tomato

    L. Feta lettuce celery and tomato salad, olive oil, small bowl fruity soya yogurt

    S. 1 & 1/2 buttered crumpets

    D. 2 bowls chick pea spinach and broken noodles soup, a few nuts, bowl of dairy yogurt

Not too bad, could have been quite good minus the crumpets and the broken noodles, but hey ho.

    Good night all x
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).

My weigh in upset me a bit this morning
I really hope I have a loss to report next week.
Food wise my meal choices were ok today but had toast for brekkie and I'm thinking I should try to get into the habit of cereal or fruit instead.
Snacked on a Banana and Satsuma, so all good there - the only downer on the day is that I ate three chocolates later in the evening, and though that's a vast improvement on previous days, I really want to cut out stuff like that as I always find it hard to stop at just one :(
On a more positive note, I did an exercise session this morning using a DVD I have.
Not too bad a day, really.

Confession - I've just eaten 2 pieces of shortbread from a tin that opened itself and shoved itself under my nose, and drunk a mug of caramel flavoured hot chocolate. Now I'm going to exercise on the stairs to try and walk it off - well go up to bed, actually :o

    Sweet dreams :)

This site is a bit of an eye opener!

I personally am trying to make 1 change a week to something healthier. This week it is white to brown rice........
    White Rice: Diabetic Risks

Diabetics are often warned about the link between eating white rice and bringing on a rapid rise in blood sugar levels. The message is that if you are a diabetic or are at risk, stay away from white rice. Medical experts advocate replacing white rice with brown rice if you have diabetes. A study team at the Harvard School of Public Health recently found that eating five servings per week of white rice increased the risk of diabetes. They also found that replacing white rice with brown rice lowered the risk.
    Brown Rice: Fiber Advantages

Brown rice has more fiber than white rice, and the difference is due to the way both types are processed. White rice is brown rice that has gone through some changes in the milling process. With brown rice, only the husk is removed. White rice is polished and pre-cooked or parboiled. The bran is also removed. The bran is kept intact in brown rice, and that bran gives you a healthy dose of fiber.
Brown rice contains nutrients like magnesium, manganese and zinc. White rice has less amounts of these nutrients, but is fortified with iron and some B vitamins. Brown rice is the only form of the grain that contains vitamin E.

  • Gotta go for a meal out with family which will be hard to control calorie-wise. Going to wear mega-tight hold it all in pants to help me not overeat!

I am hoping for a better day today as last night I was munching quite a lot of cheese and crackers. The cheese has all gone now except for some hard grated chedder in the freezer which I can cope with. I hope to use the Wii today and weather permitting go for a walk.

    B- Toast and Greek Yogurt
L- Oats so Simple and satsuma
D- HM portion of Parsnip, Apple and Ginger soup, egg salad and a apple.

    Good morning all,

Last late lie in today, as I mean to get going earlier in the mornings from tomorrow so that I can start with yoga stretches and meditation before housework.

Interesting article about the brown and white rice. I wonder where basmati rice lies?

I didn't do too badly yesterday especially as it is the very first day of forming new habits. My portion sizes were definitely smaller, my dinner looked quite lost on my dinner plate.

Hugs to those of you who have been upset, or who have been feeling down over your weight.

Flamingo, enjoy the time out this evening, it made me chuckle your comment about wearing mega hold it all in pants. I always wear a certain pair of trousers when I go out that are more restricting.

I think this is one of the reasons I have been oblivious to my weight gain as since I gave up work I have been living in leggings and elasticated jogging trousers that have never seen any jogging! So from now on it will be button topped jeans and trousers that are less forgiving.

Hoping you all have a lovely day today.

    Peony x

  • Peony I have started using a side plate instead of a dinner plate, it looks like you're eating loads then and helps portion control :)
