  • Ditch 100 things in January /100

Oh the shame of it.! I thought I would have a quick delve in the bottom of another wardrobe whilst I ran a bath and in there I found 2 calendars - one unused from 1996 and one used from 1999, 2 wrapped Christmas presents and 3 unwrapped presents (originally bought for my son several years ago) and a boxed set of children's classics (probably bought from the book man.) Also in there was another bag of toy stuffing, 1 400gm ball of Aran and another bag full of wool (not looked inside yet.) Oh and a Pippa Dee label :D

    51 – 2 x calendars
52 – 2 rolls of Christmas wrapping paper

    Hi all,

Cats, I am in the same position as you, trying to decide whether or not to car boot as I want all these boxes gone.

I have done one car boot and it was horrible (in a really posh area of Berkshire too but had people opening my car doors before I was even out to root through the boxes which I was not prepared for!)

I did that on my own so I'm hoping that doing one with my mum will be better and her local one is set up from 11.30 on a Sunday so very civilised. I always collect stuff up to car boot and end up taking it to the charity shop as it is easier but this time I really want to give it a go and if it is horrible then I can guarantee I won't do it again! :D

A few more bits out today:

    24. Cardboard box OH's guitar was delivered in.
    25. PSP box given to OH's brother who now owns the PSP.
    26. Box from PSP game given to OH's brother.

Also listed two Guinness rugby shirts on eBay, hope they sell but won't count them until they do. I've got 2 old PDA's to go on eBay as well (recycling sites don't offer much for them) and a few other bits. Am determined to stop chucking stuff if I can make something for it. Listed my old contact lenses on Freegle and had one response so hopefully they will go as well.

Finally, had the in-laws over for dinner (am soo lucky that I get on well with them) - they gave us a load of curtains when we moved in together as we had very little and we now have no windows without curtains so asked if they wanted the surplus back and they said no so need to work out what to do with them. There are several pairs and some are velvet, very heavy and large so will free up loads of space in the spare room :T

Well done everyone and to those who are feeling demotivated (including me lately) I think the advise about allowing ourselves to relax is good and I intend to take it :rotfl:

Just a tip for those with a fear of [STRIKE]cat [/STRIKE] ooops I mean car boots...when you arrive and people surround you, don't be afraid to tell them to buzz off...they are mostly dealers, or just lock your car doors, wait inside or walk away for a bit. I had stuff stolen when I first did a car boot as people surrounded me, at a time when I would have sold the items for a pittance, but it never ceases to amaze me how grabbing some people are. Now if it looks like they are going to overwhelm me, I just walk away and come back to unpack at my leisure because more cars have turned up. Just make sure your doors are locked. I would be seriously pi**ed off if someone opened my car doors!

It's usually better to go in pairs.

edit to change from cat to car :rotfl:

No fear of cats here, got 4 of them :D

What confused me was a woman who picked up a nearly new handbag and asked how much it was so I said 50p (was just trying to get shot of stuff so selling everything really cheap!) She put it down and walked off - so how much did she want to pay then?!

OK. I've somehow freaked myself out by reading the thread about car boot sales. I was planning to do one on my own in the spring, but now wondering if it's worth the hassle... I am reluctant to ask a friend to help me because I feel embarrassed about my 'junk'. Tempted instead to see if a local charity shop would like to collect my stuff and just take it off my hands.

What do you lovely people think?

We've done loads of carboots, and I think it depends on where you go, and making sure you get there and set up before the swarms of people get let in - at the one we usually go to it starts at 12 and you can set up from 11.30am, so the buyers don't get let into the field until 12 to give you time to sort yourself out etc.

Or, you could do what we've done twice now as we just don't have the time, or as much good stuff to do carboots. We've put a carboot lot on ebay. Depending on how much you've got you can break it down into smaller lots and on a free listing weekend start it at the minimum price you'd like (taking into account final fees) and cross you're fingers it sells. We did this in Oct and got rid of no end of stuff, and our 2nd lot finishes in 2 minutes with 3 bids on it. Buyer collects and pays cash. Boxes of stuff gone, money in your pocket and you don't even have to leave the house!

    HTH :)

Not much to report today as we've been out quite a bit.
Present from present box, card, wrapping paper and tag used up for a party DD2 was at this afternoon :)
