One quick question how long do you keep cardboard boxes from purchases? I have a microwave I bought approx 4-5 months ago. And I still have the box?
I tend to keep boxes just for a short while.....once I've set up the thing that was in the box, and am convinced it's working properly I get rid of the box. Until I'm satisfied that the item is not faulty I won't chuck the box, just incase I need to return it for a refund. HTH0 -
Another bag taken to the charity shop:
- 2 pairs of trousers
- 3 jumpers
- 2 skirts

Why do yo uhave the box? Hubby keeps boxes for apple stuff that he knows he will resell when he updates and it sells for more with the box - this I understand. Keeping a box 'just in case' doesn't seem like a vulable use of space though
I keep them for two reasons
1) if I need to take it back because the item has gone wrong
2) in case we move so I can put it back in the same box with the correct packing. I know, I know.
Me thinks I need to be more ruthless :rotfl:

Wardrobe sorted (well the stuff piled up in the bottom). One bag for the tip and one for the charity shop.
Will tackle everything on hangers next, and then the dreaded wardrobe at the side of the bed. The bottom is full of books, I really should get a Kindle, but just love books. You're only young once, but you can be immature forever0 -
If you are my husband yo keep them forever - beyond even owning the item in some cases. However I throw them away as soon as I have taken the item out of the box.

My husband keeps stuff forever too! He's another Apple fan and keeps those boxes just like yours BUT he keeps loads of other boxes too and they're all in the loft taking up much needed storage space. He won't listen when I say it's a bit excessive. Men eh!Flymarkeeteer: £168 and counting0 -
Celyn: if it's any help, I was in a craft shop before Christmas and they said they'd had lots of requests for smaller bits and bags of offcuts after Kirstie's crafty programmes.
Do you have any quilting groups nearby, as I know one local to me cheerfully accepts cast offs, unfinished objects etc.
And I bet a few people got the Cath Kidston Quilt book and are looking for something inexpensive to start on...
And I'm having a great time sorting things out, storing like with like, generating empty boxes...‘Keep your eye on the donut and not on the hole.’ David Lynch.

Have arranged with my mum to do our car boot the weekend after next so I now HAVE to get my backside in gear and sort out everyone which needs to go.
We are then going to the charity shops on the Monday with anything which is left over so once it leaves the house it ain't coming back again :j
I think I just found my motivation
Re boxes, I tend to get rid of the box once I know the item is working.0 -

Ditch 100 in January 62/100
Lots of ebay packages went out today
57. Handbag - ebay
58. GAP top (embarassingly with the tags still attached) - ebay
59. Fabric dye - ebay
60. Monsoon formal top - ebay
61. Computer parts - ebay
62. My old interview suit - ebay
Thank you for the suggesstions about the fabric - I have repacked the ottoman with the bits I want to keep (and now I can just get the lid down) What's remaining is a bag I can actually sit in if it's empty - it is about waist height; mainly offcuts, small fragments and bits - so a huge amount really. I think I will sort through it once I have cleared a space downstairs and pack it up into smaller bags. Most of it is dress fabric or fleece, some of it is upholstry fabric and curtain fabric and I think there *might* be a bag of leather offcuts in there too.
I have a seperate box for felt and net/tuille/light fabric to go through in as well. great idea about finding a pre-school group; If I can find one, I can die cut some shapes to make it more useful to them (although what they would do with 75 marimekko dinosaurs I don't know). The thought of sorting is is scaring me though. I did one box last night and it difficult. It's years of stuff, accumulated through years of craft work and years of travel. I found the silk I bought in Korea whilst I was sorting. So many good intentions
The problem is is that I'm a stumble-crafter; I want to learn something, I spend a few weeks doing it then move onto something else, leaving a *massive* trail of detritus in my wake.
Bizarrely, the one thing I've stuck to is small scale sculpture (in a variety of media; but mainly polymer clay, sugar or fibres) - it's amazing that the mess isn't in proportion to the size of the output:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
