Ditch 100 in January 62/100
Lots of ebay packages went out today
57. Handbag - ebay
58. GAP top (embarassingly with the tags still attached) - ebay
59. Fabric dye - ebay
60. Monsoon formal top - ebay
61. Computer parts - ebay
62. My old interview suit - ebay
Thank you for the suggesstions about the fabric - I have repacked the ottoman with the bits I want to keep (and now I can just get the lid down) What's remaining is a bag I can actually sit in if it's empty - it is about waist height; mainly offcuts, small fragments and bits - so a huge amount really. I think I will sort through it once I have cleared a space downstairs and pack it up into smaller bags. Most of it is dress fabric or fleece, some of it is upholstry fabric and curtain fabric and I think there *might* be a bag of leather offcuts in there too.
I have a seperate box for felt and net/tuille/light fabric to go through in as well. great idea about finding a pre-school group; If I can find one, I can die cut some shapes to make it more useful to them (although what they would do with 75 marimekko dinosaurs I don't know). The thought of sorting is is scaring me though. I did one box last night and it difficult. It's years of stuff, accumulated through years of craft work and years of travel. I found the silk I bought in Korea whilst I was sorting. So many good intentions
The problem is is that I'm a stumble-crafter; I want to learn something, I spend a few weeks doing it then move onto something else, leaving a *massive* trail of detritus in my wake.
Bizarrely, the one thing I've stuck to is small scale sculpture (in a variety of media; but mainly polymer clay, sugar or fibres) - it's amazing that the mess isn't in proportion to the size of the output:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
I'm sure fabric scraps would sell well on ebay. I also know someone who makes things from leather who is always asking for leather off cuts on twitter - if you do find any and do decide to part with them then give me a shout. I started hoarding fabric in the autumn and have a lovely stash but amazingly I've been so good since Christmas and not bought any. I've decided I've got enough to play with and I'll only buy for specific projects for now.Initial Mortgage January 2024 - £160,000

Ditch 100 things in January 54/100
Not bad today, have sorted ds's room a bit more, a kitchen cupboard, a bag of stuff that had obviously been sorted before (!) and loads more DVDs on their way to Music Magpie. I think this brings me up to 54/100 now, although i have yet to properly tackle the Cupboard of Doom.0 -
SueMaggie - Why do you need to discuss getting rid of your own things with your OH? I had a massive argument some time ago with OH about recycling a box for a pc game that belonged to me. I was so angry that he thought he could control my belongings. Now I just wait until he is out or engrossed in something before taking items for recycling or to the charity shop, so he doesn't get the chance to interfere. I would never get rid of his things or jointly owned items without checking, but if I want to get rid of my stuff, then I will!
I completely agree with you and believe me I can more than stand up for myself, so in theory I should be able to not discuss it with him. However he has a real problem about anything leaving the house regardless of who it belongs to.
If I go ahead and start to gather things together to get rid of, the second my back is turned he's rummaging in the bags and taking things out of them and putting them back in cupboards etc.
Unfortunately I'm reliant on him to physically take things to charity shops, the recycling centre etc as I have some mobility problems and can't drive as a consequence.
So the only way to do it is to discuss it with him - how he takes this and how much I can get rid of varies from day to day - some days I pretty much have to make a legal case on why I want to get rid of each thing - other days are easier and he'll agree to let things go.
If it was up to me I'd just sling everything I want to get rid of, but he'd be really distressed if I did that so have to do it slowly and gently and hopefully he'll gradually come to realise that getting rid of things isn't as bad as he thinks it is.
As I said before, his late Dad was exactly the same and drove my ma-in-law demented about it throughout their 50+ years of marriage.0 -
Only managed to get rid of 4 newspapers today into the recycling. Nothing has come into the house though so that's good.
2 loads of washing done, 1 dried and put away and other is in the drier now. DH will fold it when it's finished.
I aim to make a start on the room of doom (aka my bedroom) on Thursday as I have DS home and his friend's coming round to play. They'll both go on the wii in the morning so I will start by putting away the clothes which are out. As the filing is now nice and neat, I can sort out my wage slips which are on my dressing tables and only keep the most recent one. Then I just swap it on March payday and keep that one forever.
Had a bit of an  moment earlier as I went to write a cheque for DD's guides. Got halfway through writing it and realised I had the wrong cheque book. I thought I must have burned the other on Tuesday when we were filing. However, when I was just telling DH about it, I think it might be the right book but the bank has changed names. This makes life very confusing indeed for someone like myself as I don't have a card for the account and it's so darned difficult to find account details from anywhere else!
Keep going with the decluttering everyone. DH has emptied an old toy box from the bathroom and put it into our bedroom to either go or be used for gifts. He has also put the towels in our massive landing cupboard as there is now space and we can actually get to it having emptied the landing.
It's making such a huge difference. There is even a chance that I will be able to persuade him into doing a bit more DIY over the coming months and get my hallway finished off by stealth!

Cleared out 5 old catalogues (2008?), a free streetmap from 2001 (god I really need to clean more often) and a pile of cookbooks and a tea set are in the boot of the car ready for the charity shop.0

I'm so joining you in this, 2012 is the year to go back to basics! I am trying to sell as much as possible on Facebook/Ebay but making up a bag for the charity shop too and a few for the tip! It's not just stuff laying around the house, it's food too so not buying any more food until next month!0

39. YET ANOTHER bag of plastic and cardboard. We have only just got our plastic/card wheelie bin. Before this I used to recycle but have to admit that tiny bits and bobs of gard would go in the bin. I can't believe now it is separate from other recycling just how much there is.
40. A hoover bucket full of dust and dog/cat hair and general muck. I'm finding the de cluttering is throwing up a lot of dust, that has laid hidden for many a moon.
In all the house feels fresher somehow, I like being able to walk in a straight line without diverting for various objects over the floor. Have a huge way to go but very pleased with what I done so far.
Keep it up everyone, it's great to know that over the country there are people in a big a pickle as me!Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -

Lots of things recycled today too, as well as a big bag of boxes etc to school for instrument making for science weekExtra savings aim for 2020 £4,000 £0/£4,000

I'm sorting out family photos. Ive got this really bad habit of taking two or three of the same shot just in case so ive got hundreds of them to go through. They bring back such lovely memories but i do think i need to go through the dupicates.
Ive disposed of about 50 coat hangers and ive got a carrier bag that i want to fill with junk by the time i go to bed. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
