  • Ditch 100 in January

Today we took 11 black bags full of aluminium tins and steel cans to the recyclers - and got £10.20 for them. (We collect and recycle these in aid of our disabled grandson's future care fund). Took some shelves out of our old oven too. Also gave a bag of 'bits' to daughter for grandson's nursery. Out most of the day again so not much decluttering going on today. At least we can get in the garage again now the cans have gone!

Got rid of absolutely loads today so I've made a very conservative guess at 20 items - It's got to be more but I still have so much more to go... I should try and keep a count really but there has been so much I can't keep up. That load consisted of lots of clothes going to various places, magazine, boxes, paperwork etc

Perhaps Feb I'll go for 200 things... hmmm
Me, DH and DD (17 months) clearing our debt for a better future. Then (LBM) = £21,636.43 (Oct 2009) Now = £12128.07 (44%)

    Debt-free and Proud!
Haven't decluttered anything since I've been back at work (Monday), but hopefully I'll make up for lost time at the weekend. It's still good to read of all your successes - although I sometimes think "I could make use of that!" Defeats the object of decluttering if we just recycled it amongst ourselves!!

    evening all declutterers,
this decluttering really makes a big mess of the house, i dont like a messy house (its usually all hidden in places like cupboards, drawers etc) but i'm sure it will be worth it eventually.
Im really angry and upset that we have wasted all that money on "essential must haves" maybe at the time they were but essentially it is all carp now and completly unimportant to our lives.
i feel a great release too that i am getting rid of the clutter!
When its cleared its good to be able to have a proper clean round and organize the remaining important stuff.
so from yesterday and today its=
19 boxes and bags of stuff from the attic
    1 bag of clothes
    1 bag of shoes
    1 bag of handbags
3 boxes of stuff from cupboards
6 bags of tatty crafty stuff
    and 12 pictures

Im nowhere near finished yet but i dont know where it has all came from

Keep up the good work everyone we are all doing so well
    regards

My house looks like a whirlwind has gone through it! Not seeing much if any difference to before and still a long way to go, but I know from experience it always seems to get worse before it gets better.

I like having the "I don't know what I'm going to do with this yet" box; it somehow takes off the pressure.

It's going to take me some weeks; if not months to be completely clutter free.

Oh, I keep forgetting about the clothing banks; thanks for the reminder!:)
  • What to do with:
a load of Peter Fagan cat ornaments
a set of Creature Comfort ornaments
    a million pictures
    a million 'Right Shoe' shoes???

I don't have the same wall space that I did in my last house and these have sat in their wrapping in a box for nearly two years!

Not sure the ornaments will get much eBay (or negligible amounts anyway) but too nice to give away. I could clear some books out and use the shelf space to display the ornaments....
The pictures I could car boot.

    Another question:
How do you use your bedside drawers?
They're next on the declutter list and at the moment they are full of rubbish!

I don't think I am ever going to be clutter free :o. Unless I can seriously change 'my ways' - it's too much in my nature :o:p. But I hope to be able to control it better from now on :)
  • We have a clothing bank at work now which is very handy :D

I am visualising all of our messy houses - at least we're in it together, and I'm dreaming of the day where I live minimally.

Tooties - you're so right, I think decluttering and money saving works so well together because the last thing you want to do after all your hard work is to go and buy more stuff (often tat) to clutter it up more!

This is a fantastic challenge. I'm hoping it will change my life :T
