Decluttering 2012, this year, definitely ...

Wow, up to 33 pages already, and I don't have the time to read back over them all
I signed up on 30th Dec on page 2 lol, and my absence is due to a) the page crashing when I was reading through page 6 last week so couldn't get any further and b) not spending so much time on my laptop/internet/MSE
We've/I've done so much since I last contributed on here:
Our bedroom has been decluttered and tidied
Present boxes have been organised and lists written so we know what we've got
Christmas stuff boxed up and in loft with more lists written of contents so I don't end up with 50 packs of tags like last year lol
Girls went through Christmas books and found 10 that they didn't want any more/were too young for them (we still have a big box full!)
All things found for the loft put up there
Ironing mountain done and will be kept on top of in future
Contents of mug cupboard decreased and re-arranged
Medicine cupboard sorted through, tidied and OOD stuff binned
Ditto tupperware cupboard, empty water bottles recycled and a couple of drinks bottles put in car boot box aka mountain
Reduced number of books in conservatory (which means they now all fit in the bookcases) so have some to sell
OH has drastically reduced the number of dvds he has, as well as find some games and cds to sell - some already traded in at CEX etc
My nappy cake and crafting stuff organised properly and stored in crates
Cupboard under the stairs has had paperwork and old instruction manuals etc recycled, recipie collection gone through and lots recycled. Shelves tidy
We have also done lots in the playroom which is now no longer referred to as the room of doom
Girls found some toys, books, jigsaws and dvds they no longer wanted which are now on the local facebook selling groups. One thing being collected on Sat and someone coming tomorrow to buy lots of books and jigsaws! All money for these goes to the girls so they'll be thrilled!
Due to OH recreasing his dvds, a dvd tower was emptied, so girls moved their dvds and smaller books and toys on to there so we now have enough storage for their things. Jigsaw shelves moved to girl's bedroom, spece now taken by plastic craft drawers. Everything has a place!
As it was free listings on ebay at the weekend we sorted through all our carboot stuff and split it into 2 lots, one lot has gone back neatly into the garage ready to sell when the weather picks up/we have time, and the other lot has been listed on ebay as a carboot lot. We did this in Oct and sold for a decent price considering nobody wants to pay more than 20-50p an item at our local carboot. Hopefully we'll sell this lot too
Seeing all our achievements so far in a list like that makes me realise how well we've done, and it's only day 10 of the year! Hopefully we can keep on top of this, make more of an effort to sell our stuff and declutter even more stuffI have such a good feeling about my levels of motivation this year, and DD2 doing 3 full days (plus a half) at Nursery & Preschool will help as I'll have more time and therefore feel more motivated to do things around the house. I've started a notebook/diary, at the end of every day I write down a list of things I need to do the next day (partly so I don't forget, but partly so I have specific tasks to do each day and don't feel over-whelmed). I tick them off each night before making the list for the next day. I'm finding it really helps keep me motivated, and if something doesn't get done then I write it for the next day and it gets done then. E.g. Today I was meant to go to the supermarket, but as I have both DDs off school it will have to happen tomorrow.
Sorry for the long post but I had quite a lot to report with not being on for ages. I'll try and get on more often, but am limiting my internet time so I don't end up sat on my bum all day instead of decluttering! I do think we've already got rid of 100 items, or have them ready to leave the house, but I'm hoping for some more!Extra savings aim for 2020 £4,000 £0/£4,000

Ditch 100 in Jan now on 26/100 - but think I've forgotten to count some. Taken a big bag to DH's work for charity box, started sorting my wardrobe and trying to be ruthless. Book club last night, the book was a bit naff so off to charity this morning!MFW start date:22.6.13 - £138555 9.7.13 - £125937

The CS was thrilled to get my storage boxes.
Didn't buy anything from the recycling centre, mainly because I didn't take any cash with me!
An item will be going tomorrow when someone picks it up as I sold it on FB.
Will sort through jewellery to send to the Alzheimer's society (do they take costume jewellery?)0 -
Reading other peoples posts is inspiring me to look through more areas to get rid of forgotten items, thanks :T
18. 56 CDs to musicmagpie
19/20. Old cardboard boxes and recycled bubblewrap for packaging of above
21-24. 4 items sent sold on ebay -sent
25. soap to friend0 -
Glad to see everyone keeping up.
It will be interesting to see how many things we manage to fling in January as a collective group.
For example 10 people successfully achieving this challenge will throw away 1,00 items, 50 people = 5,000, 100 people = 10,000:eek:.
Today I have managed
3. Jug, bowl and tea towel returned to work.
4. Bag of trousers to small for my boys donated to friend.
5. Pair of tracksuit bottoms rehomed with a needy friend.
brings me up to 5/100.:j DEBT FREE FROM 01/01/11 :j
Declutter 2012 - 191, 2013 - 260 -
Shredded paper as if I had 100 hamsters buidling nests. I counted paper shredding as 1 item or I would have had to log over 100 on that task alone.
I carried out a raid of my clothes, mugs, photoframes etc and have now reached 22/100.
Will update my signature." The greatest wealth is to live content with little."

Found some things lurking:
94. 3 old fruit loaves I found festering at the bottom of the bread bin I don't use (not that out of date but not edible)
95. some potatoes right at the back of the vegetable carousel - they're going in the compost bin in the morning (too dark to do it now)
96. found bag of knitting stuff I hadn't put away from when we went to MIL at Christmas - sorted through and put away
January Challenge 96/100Flymarkeeteer: £168 and counting0 -
Does anyone have any suggestions how to get safely rid of kitchen knives that I dont want? I have a collection, but always seem to use my favourites (OH thinks I'm mad for having favourite knives!) as they cut better, so it seems pointless having 2 or 3 in there that never get used.
I would imagine your civic amenity site (local dump) will be able to dispose of these safely for you.
RE recycling videos, I'd echo the suggestion of trying charity shops. Another suggestion is childrens wards at hospitals, in case any of them still have video playersknow thyselfNid wy'n gofyn bywyd moethus...0 -
