  • Has anyone got any suggestions as to what to do with videos. I must have about 100 - mainly children's. I feel quite please with myself that I am starting to feel that I must get rid of them (that emptional attachment thing!) but don't just want to put them in the bin. I had a quick look on Ebay for similar but they are not selling.

A tip that I read that helped me last year:

On your coat hooks by the front door collect together all scarves, hat gloves etc and put in a bag to hang on one of the hooks. Now all kept together and easily locatable. Made a massive difference here!

It is a great tip - I've got the dog leads, coats and harnesses in a canvas shopping bag that hangs on one of the hooks. The two leads that are used daily are hung on the bottom of the stairs, but the rest are all together in the bag.

Another bag has all my son's gloves/hats/scarves in :)

And a third bag has lightweight macs for the whole family - so that I can grab them when going out on warmer days, if I think it might rain while we're out. (might need to update this soon though - the kids keep growing!!)

I offered some on freegle (feecycle) and a lot of the kids videos went that way. Still ended up taking lots to the tip before christmas though :(

Well, the car is loaded up with:

    1) cardboard for the recycling centre (counted as one)
    16) 15 storage boxes of various types for the CS :o
    17) water cooler for tip (broken and too expensive to mend)
    20) 3 parcels for posting for items sold on fleabay and ama!on.
    21) item being returned to mail order :D

    Total 21/100

I've just dropped two coats off at Wilkinson's - for those who were wondering, there's no signs up or publicity but a small collection box at the front of our store. It says they are collecting them to be sold in Age UK charity shops.

While I was there I got a lovely picture frame for £8. I know, it's something in rather than something out, but it means I can display the picture that's currently in a tube next to my bed. And a bargain too - the frames I was looking at online were more like £50!

For those of you clearing out old jewellery the Alzheimers Society is one charity that would be very grateful - even if its broken or one earring...

    ^Thank you for this.
Even better that it is Freepost. I will have a sort through and see what I can part with

I think your chances of selling them are pretty slim. You could try putting them on Freegle, or find out if any of your local charity shops still take videos. Our local Oxfam does, for example.

No so much bothered about getting any money for them - more that I find it really difficult to throw things out and would rather someone else got use of things.

I think I will sort through them and maybe list the Disney ones on Freegle then see what I have left then see what charity bags come through the door and if they don't specifically exclude videos, will put them in there. (Normally just send hubby to the BHF shop and dump and run).

Yes definitely give Freecycle a go for videos. Both my parents and inlaws still have video players and they keep a stock of kids' videos for when our children stay over there. I think someone further up the thread said he/she was managing to sell Disney ones on Ebay but I think for general cartoons etc Freecycle definitely the best bet.

Huge black sack of soft toys appropriated from DS's room (he's almost 10, and there are lots left. Am I mean?! I don't think he will easily notice these are gone. Problem is he won't agree to get rid of anything, he's a total softy.)

Huge pile of washing from DS's room....the things you find under a cabin bed! No wonder he had so many odd socks.
