My dad does that too! What is it with guys and hoarding empty boxes "just in case". Got called into work in the morning so that cuts down my de-cluttering time I had allotted tomorrow. Might go and do a bit now before bed!

Oooerr, I have that horrible habit too! Mind you, I use them during the summer/autumn for freezing fruit and veg.

Haven't posted on this new thread yet, the ditch 100 challenge looks good but I don't think it would make many inroads into my clutter:D

But between the messies thread and this one, I do feel inspired to actually do something other than shuffling the clutter around.

Didn't manage to list anything on ebay :o. WRT the Brownies uniform; it was second hand when we got it and is covered in paint (why don't they wear aprons for heavens sake?) and the trousers were replacement about 3rd hand and the bottoms of them are all chewed up so really scruffy.
Have loads of clothes from SiL having a clear out. I got them in October so tomorrow I am going to try them on and list what I don't want on ebay at a 99p start price when I get time. Anything I make will be extra profit so hang the low start price. This way, I can list a few items at a time and not get overwhelmed by the size of the task.
An out of a used up toiletry thing today so at least something went.
No ins since our shopping trip last Monday apart from food so that's good too.

I have been trying to catch up before posting, but the thread keeps speeding along and I can't get to the end, so will post now and read back at some point! I was on the previous declutter thread and quite serious about getting rid of stuff, sold over 100 items on Ebay last year which paid for two new pairs of glasses for me. :) Also lots of things given to charity shops/family/friends and a several boxes of old paperwork recycled.

I am now getting a little stuck as OH is a hoarder and we don't have a loft, so all the stuff he wants to keep has just been left in the spare room, which also doubles as a guest room and gym! He wants to build a cupboard along one wall of the spare room, so he can just hide the boxes away, I have already said no to this. We will have to move all of the boxes out of the way to build the cupboard, so he may as well just sort through the boxes, which could mean we don't need the cupboard anyway! He also has a cupboard full of wires and cables and two drawers of random 'man junk' that is all apparently useful. *sigh*

I will just have to try and keep my clutter in check and ignore his for the moment! I am currently in the middle of doing an assignment and it is my sister's wedding next weekend, so won't have much time for decluttering this week. I did relist 40 items on Ebay today and gave away some fabric conditioner and christmas decorations to my sister yesterday.

My main weakness is books, I have been given a lot of second hand books in the last couple of months and was given a new boxed set for Christmas, so the bookcase is overflowing. If I finish a book and didn't enjoy it or know that I won't read it again, I have no problem giving it away, but I just can't give away unread books. The trouble is I am not actually reading books for fun at the moment, as I am busy reading my study books! Will try and pencil in a bit of time for fun reading soon or the bookcase may well fold in on itself!

Wish my other half would do that - it drives me nuts how he insists on keeping and washing empty margarine pots - in case he needs one for his DIY! I wouldnt mind so much if he took them into the garage, but they just sit there on the kitchen top annoying me

Mine does the very same thing with Greek yogurt pots - he insists that he's sure they'll stop doing them and put them into another form of container and they're just right for DIY. Hence I've got an ever increasing stack of them on my window sill which drives me insane :mad:. Going to have to find somewhere more out of the way to keep them but he'll kick off when I do.

I use margarine / butter tubs to freeze single portions of soup or leftovers - they stack really well in the freezer.

    34. A leather bound note book that is embellished with a company name so I don't think anyone else will want it
    35. An old work laptop of OH's that he can't get rid of but is no use so it's going in the loft forever instead of cluttering up the floor of the office, so i'm counting it - so NER! :p
    36. More old books and Videos for the charity bag - I think i might walk into town with DD this afternoon and hand them in to a shop, then they are truly gone.

There is now a noticeable improvement in the study - the shelves look tidy and there is floor space. Other stuff is being listed on ebay, to be counted if it sells.
I wanna be in the room where it happens

Just had a breakthrough moment that I thought I'd share.

Washed up and had one of those glass GU pudding jars (whoopsied I hasten to add!) thought about keeping it, along the it could come in useful one day thought variety. But it's gone into the glass recycling. Not going to count it yet, but it was a bit of Eureka moment.

I've finally persuaded OH we don't need to keep every little pot we get like that and they can be recycled - we don't need that many little pots 'in case they come in handy'

My daughter moved out of home 5 months ago and for the first time ever i have a spare bedroom. I couldnt believe how quickly it was being turned into a junk room which annoyed me no end. I dont know what i'm going to do with the room yet but at the moment i cant see further than it being my daughters room (if she needs to come back)

Then i decided to drag all the stuff out of the loft. Hubby was always going up and down the ladders to see what stuff he'd stuck up there and i began to see tiny cracks appearing in my bedroom ceilings which i was pretty sure it was down to him going up and down searching for stuff. A lot of the junk has been binned and ive got bits scattered round the bedrooms which really cant be chucked but i feel like i'm drowning in the stuff.

Many years ago when we split up i made myself a box of tools that i would need round the house. Just basic stuff like tape measures, screwdrivers and stuff. I affectionately called it my 'i need no man box'. The amount of wires and stuff he's chucked in there and i counted 4 tape measures yesterday. Surely we dont need 4! Two of them look as though they have seen better days. I have to remind him that the house is not an extention to his shed! He usually bites back but its true! He has two large sheds and doesnt need to use the house as a store room.

I know what you mean. I've been putting the clutter in boxes: charity, eBay, office, etc and that way I'm organising myself without having to decide what to throw/keep. I was shocked by how much stuff was in my wardrobe and on bedroom floor that 'should' be in another room (if kept at all). Not all the bedroom is cleared yet (I have a huge ottoman filled with boots and shoes etc that I haven't been able to open for weeks but can now....) and it means I have a few more boxes upstairs, but at least I know what's in them and where they need to go and I'm sure that I'll be able to chuck more stuff than I have already when I sort through them again to put them away.

I think the thing is not to put yourself under pressure. I think someone has already said to take things at your own pace. And it's very true what someone elsesaid - it won't all clear overnight.

Re Toy fire poster: Horrid to hear about toy catching fire. Hope the interview goes well.

    Have a good day everyone.
