  • Good morning all!

With the encouragement of an 8 o'clock collection this morning I tackled a couple of misc boxes in the bedroom. Large handful of papers to be recycled and 29 items in a cs bag. I really didn't think I would make my targets this month - I don't think I will for the books though I ended up with more than I thought a couple of weeks ago and today I will finish off clearing out the emails. I would love to think that so much is out I've nothing left to go but I'm afraid that's a little way off. Perhaps it could be a target for next month. November - no clutter.

Good luck with all the scurrying around to do as much as we can today!

Out..... Old washing machine. We have no way of getting rid of the old one now the local refuse site has banned trailers.

Hubby shoved it on the front of our house for when the scrap metal men call which is several times a week at the moment. So i got a knock on the door 'Is the washer for scrap metal love?' he yelled through the letterbox scaring both me and the dogs witless.

'Yes take it' I yelled back.

But he neednt have gone into my rubbish bag to retrieve the smallest wooden coffee table i chucked in as we dont use it.

Still, i was wondering if the bin men would take it..... I still think he was a thieving git though.

I know what you mean Judi about rag & bone type men. We gave one of them an exerciser thing one week. The next week we had more metal but wanted other bits taken too and he refused to take the extra bits. So I gave it to another one. And even he was grumpy. People often get rid of old washing machines etc on Freecycle too. Even if they don't work they always seem to go.

I made a list today breaking down decluttering into different tasks - such as sort a shelf/drawer/table etc. So that's an outline plan for decluttering 300 things in November, roughly 10 things a day. I'm chomping at the bit so will probably start this evening :D

Take it easy happytails - get rid of that nasty cold.
:) Declutter 300 things in December challenge, 9/300. Clear the living room. Re-organize storage

    October Outtage 101/100

    89 Handbag - Mum
90-95 Books - Sheltered accomodation fundraiser
96 Lots more articles from magazines - Recycling
97 Zipped plastic case (picnic blanket came in) - Bin
    98 Nail Enamel - Sold
    99 3 x Sports/Drawstring bags - Charity
100 Broken digital watch - Bin
101 Manual for old boiler - Recycling

Not sure if I'll be able to set a target for November as I dont seem to have that much left to clear now, so it'll be more about setting mini challenges and keeping on top of the day to day but I'd still like to post here if thats ok?

Keep up the great work everyone, you are all AMAZING :A

  • Yes it was something you mentioned as a target and I think it's a brilliant concept. I need to super charge decluttering here. I've made real progress in certain areas but others need a blast of less stuff. You sound like you've done a hell of a lot. What about areas like understairs, the loft, garage/shed? :)
Yes, there is a lot less stuff in this house since the beginning of April. We decided that we'd like to move, but before we could even contemplate putting house on the market my craft room had to be turned into a bedroom again! As I wasn't really making cards, or scrapbooking any more, turning stuff out from that wasn't too bad. I also hoard fabric - probably had enough to make a quilt for everyone in my village at one stage - so that had to be sorted through and decisions made.

I started out trying to find the deeds to the house: we paid the mortgage off in 2008 and I'm sure I've seen an envelope with them in. I have been through every place they might be, and still haven't found them!

Have done all areas of the house once, just needs going through again to fine tune it and find stuff we don't want to take with us when we move. As we haven't got a buyer for ours yet I've still got plenty of time.

The garage still has stuff in it that I haven't even touched, as it's all hubby's bits for car/tools/gardening etc. and anything that doesn't have a home elsewhere goes out there. All the booze lives there too and we're trying to drink our way through it!

Loft has had a thorough going through, and only stuff there now is stuff we're storing for our 2 daughters, and things like Christmas decs, suitcases and boxes for all the various electrical machines that we'll need to pack. Still looks a bit untidy but far better than it was 6 months ago.

Shed is reasonably clear, had a good clear out when we put a new one up last year and so far it hasn't been cluttered to the extent that the old one was. So..... just need to go around again and find stuff I couldn't let go the first time....

    Final October declutterings:

    53. Baby training cup - charity shop
    54. Black metal candle holder - charity shop
    55. Remains of a packet of baby cereal that neither grandchild will eat - bird table, packet recycled
    56. Rotting fruit - compost bin

So, 56 out of 100 this month.

Well done everyone on October's declutterings: bring on November, and our pre-Christmas clear out!! One thing at a time.....:D

I can find the deeds but I desperately need the contract with the tenant. I now know what's where in the house but it's nowhere. Been through everywhere again, still nowhere. Tomorrow, I shall start again going through every paper and every possible box of papers and every single thing concerning that flat will be going in a new box. Really don't know what I can do if nothing comes to the surface, except maybe ask the tenant!
