Decluttering 2012, this year, definitely ...

  • I finally started on my emails and I'm sure I can delete many more tomorrow. Today I got rid of a few more books and some other odds and ends (cs). I've ordered another cs collection which will probably happen on Wednesday so that will give me a real push to see what more I can gather up tomorrow. November - (no clutter) realistically what can I do next? With much more space everywhere maybe it's time to walk around with a box and gather up things that should really be elsewhere. I've done so much I need to look at things differently. It doesn't look as though I'll be moving before the new year (even if the perfect place came up tomorrow) so I might as well do the job thoroughly, and end up with a smaller removal van!

Been quite productive, got some more bits for charity and the bin and 2 more things to sell :)

    Out:

    To CS
    1 large dog teddy
1 carrier bag of smaller misc toys
    1 kids book
    1 BN cup
half of the clothes i was given (about 10 items) due to having loads in that size.

    To bin
general rubbish cleared off breakfast bar. (receipts, bits of cardboard etc)
    3 'bad' oranges
    half a roll of wallpaper

Moved more stuff back into their appropriate rooms

My going out handbag and husbands kindle charger - back in bedroom
washing - in bedroom and folded away :)
some coat hangers from ebay selling - back in bedroom.

Also sold some megabloks (getting ready for LEGO galore at Xmas) so these will be being collected tomorrow.

Kids are in bed and im about to finish the blanket i was making for bump. Will see how i progress, i may make something for the kids or something on my list of gifts for Xmas for the family. Or i might sod it off in favour of a bath and an early night LOL

I think another key to cutting through more clutter is the methods you choose-
Obviously bin and kerbside recycling (e.g Papers) are the quickest way kick items out of your house.

Only save the best, brand new, too good to throw away things for ebay. I do that.

Charity shop- same, only the good stuff, i sometimes chuckle at the kind of things you take to the CS

You see, those methods take time, you need to post items, drop them off, wait for freecyclers- if you want to rip through those piles then be ruthless and bin!
I used to have a small pile of things that were (see my signature)- for saving it from the bin but in the end I eventually ebayed a couple and binned some and put some into the 60p per kilo clothes bag.

And don't forget to declutter the fridge and food parts!!!
    • Just ate a couple of once green and fresh bananas, all bruised and battered.
    • 3 bananas. One of them had a mysterious split down the middle- so the flesh near the split was brown. I don't know how that happened, must've got crushed by some bottles in the shopping bag. The other two were bruised in places yet green near the stalk.
    • Chopped the manky bits off, then ate with some condensed milk- lovely. If i ate them by themselves then it would not feel good in the mouth.
    • On an unrelated note- Which end do you open your bananas? I open it at the stalk, everyone else in the family open it on the "monkey" end, the black dot. I'm curious to see how you open them
    • So that's 3 bananas saved from the food caddy.
    • Some old mint sauce that expired a year ago- mixed with yoghurt, made a simple and easy poppadom dip. Mint sauce preserves well anyway.
    • I just emptied out a mayonnaise jar- about 1/5 of it. I don't think mayo goes mouldy, but it had some crumbs and particles in it which would no doubt put me off every time i go and eat it.
    • Scraped into caddy, recycled jar.
    • Not long ago, about 1/3 of a pot of yoghurt which expired on the 23rd of August! All sorts of funky stuff going on inside.
    • Couldn't put it in the caddy as it's a liquid, couldn't put it in the bin as it would stink and leak everywhere, so poured it in the corner of the garden and put some leaves over it, then disposed of the pot.
    • Sorted out a huge sack (catering grade!) of onions that were on offer.
    • Removed the annoying loose bits of skin off, peeled any that were on the turn ready for cooking and disposed of any rotten ones.
    • So huge bag full of onion skins (and 1 or 2 onions) into brown bin which i immediately decanted off the property.
Chuck it out... No, wait, we can fix it. No, it's useful. Aww, it's too good to throw away. Keep it as a memory. Put it to one side, I'll ebay it. No, it'll come in handy one day. No, don't throw it, if you ____, then you can use it as a _____. Don't put it in the bin, the tip has a special section for those.

I agree to some extent but you have to think about the planet and your purse sometimes :) So much perfectly usable stuff goes to landfill. And dont even get me started on over produced stuff and throwaway items (disposable napkins/nappies/kitchen towel) lol

Finally finished the blanket for the baby. Also used a fat quarter and some extra bits i had in (ribbon etc) to make baby a stocking for Xmas and used up about 15cm square of spare fabric to make a hanging heart decoration as part of an Xmas present. All out of the craft 'area' and popped into cot/Xmas piles as appropriate.

2 more things i have found to add to my 'ebay/fb selling' pile.

Thats it for me tonight, xx

    Agree with you too. :)
I used to chuck out small electrical appliances into the bin (like kettles) but now i have a grass trimmer and a drill lined up outside! Bit cold to go to the tip but they're not doing any harm standing there.

OH is such a tissue hoarder!
From restaurants and fast food places, she always keeps some (more like loads) in her car, pocket, bag, whatever- useful, and her excuse is, (and a very good one at that:rotfl:): what if you go to a public toilet and there's no loo roll in that gigantic canister?

I quite agree, tissues are vital in your pocket and handbag just in case, and believe, me there have been many "just in case" times :rotfl: good cure though is to habitually wash your nice smart dark clothes when you have left one single tissue in the flipping pocket

Just to top off the end of my very carpy month .....washing mashine threw a hissy fit this morning and flooded the kitchen....we are open plan and the kitchen leads onto the carpeted sitting room....need I say more??

    So far this month:
Poor kitty sick on my bed
    Both had virus
    Had a cold
    Hubby poorly
Hubby broke wrist, as if he doesn't have enough to cope with
    Hubby torn knee ligament
    Kitty had upset tummy
Under sink plumbing leaked drenching cupboard and floor
    Kettle leaked all over counter
    Toaster broken
Flicked a daddy longlegs and tore my main light lampshade
Burnt through the flex on the new toaster
    Had another cold
Spilt a sack of cat litter over the carpet
Spilt a bottle of hubbys liquid meds on bathroom carpet
    Sinus infection
    Washing machine flood

I can't wait for Thursday to arrive!! :rotfl:

  • suzeesu2000 goodness you've had a very rough month.Roll on November!

    :grouphug:to you,hubby and kitty.
  • suzeesuu2000 you poor thing, what a dreadful month!

I didn't sleep very well last night so instead got 3 boxes and began filling them with things from all over the bedroom to go elsewhere in the house. Then this morning I was up early sweeping up the leaves in the drive - not because I'm proud of the area or I particularly wanted it done (I hadn't even noticed them there until I was tidying the hedge yesterday) but because it's green bin day and I wanted to put out a full bin to get my money's worth! I guess the motive doesn't matter as long as the result is there.
