I've managed to do the one thing that I wanted to do today (a day off):
sort out all the paperwork that piles up so quickly on my sitting room table.Various items tidied away, shredded, put in recycling.A huge pile of receipts have been verified against my bank statements and then shredded. The table looks lovely,I've even given it a clean and polish!:)
It was so depressing coming home to this mess,so I'm really pleased with myself.0 -
Not much, but
Ebay- 3 jeans sent off
Emptied all internal bins in the house, recycling and general. Long overdue, but now done!Chuck it out... No, wait, we can fix it. No, it's useful. Aww, it's too good to throw away. Keep it as a memory. Put it to one side, I'll ebay it. No, it'll come in handy one day. No, don't throw it, if you ____, then you can use it as a _____. Don't put it in the bin, the tip has a special section for those.0 -
Ahh thank you all for the welcome back!
I'm hoping 300 is a reasonable target considering my house is a tip and in need of a good sort out! Maybe next month I'll set my sights lower, if I stick it out longer than last time lol.
I need inspiration!!
Just 1 more for today:
9. Table which matches highchair- in car ready for tip
Night night all, more decluttering to get on with tomorrow!96 items decluttered so far in 20130 -

All the tombola stuff will be here until 21st, but it is being wrapped and put in a box tidily so won't be cluttering up. Whew, for someone who hasn't visibly got much left to declutter that's quite a haul! Please can I join again, looking at my sig I was last here in January! New years resolutions and all that, which didn't continue... Is the November challenge for 300 items?I did a load of decluttering a year or two back but should have kept it up. But I'm going to do this pre Christmas burst.
Declutter 300 things in December challenge, 9/300. Clear the living room. Re-organize storage

Hi all,
I am a long time lurker but this is my 1st ever post on the MSE Forums :j
4 weeks ago my children and I downsized from a large detached 4 bedroomed to a (obviously much smaller) terraced 3 bedroomed house (due to circumstances that are far too long winded to go into at this time of the morning!) I have a large cellar that has been filled with the 'overflow' from the old house, the amount of carp that doesn't fit into our every day living is quite overwhelming - it has really shown me how much stuff I have bought for myself/the kids/the house over the years we have never actually needed. At the moment I can't even move down there because there is so much stuff! What do you think I should do with it all? There's books, DVDs, toys, clothes, homewares, electricals...the list is endless and im really quite ashamed just looking at it all. To eBay it all would literally take forever! Do I sort through the more valuable stuff and charity shop the rest or is there some sort of house clearance service I could use? I have 4 children under 10 and work 24 hours a week so time is really an issue for me..what would you guys do? I was thinking of bootfairs but it's not really the season is it? I really want to start leading a much more simplistic life, installing those values in my children too, and I see this as the very first step
Thanks for reading (if you've got this far) xxx0 -
Wow. A treasure hoard! Amazon is good for books and DVDs but beware the fees. Selling a heavy book for 1p ends up as a loss. But much easier than eBay. They also offering trade in , which is quicker and easier. Find things they want, print off the postage label and post, for pennies, but I found it easy to get to £10 plus a free£5 amazon voucher (at mo) . V quick and painless.
Just tackle one bit at a time, too much is overwhelming and leads to chucking all away.
How exciting. Get the kids to root out the stuff and bring it to you at the computer, and they get the money!0 -
If decluttering is a bigger priority than money-making I would recommend Music Magpie for dvds and cds. You won't get much per item but it is easy. You enter the barcodes for your items on their website and they quote you a price. If you agree to their terms the site generates a list of your items and provided you have over a certain number you box them up and they send a courier to collect them from you. Once they've checked your items they post you a cheque. This can take a while so don't rely on the money coming through quickly.0
