Thanks for the encouragement. I am going for the big ones this month....... my offfice area and the dreaded bedroom. Everything else is getting there.

Can I join you guys on the big one? ie 300 items for November? I have had a really rough year so would like to finish the year with the decks cleared.

    So for today, I have managed;

    1. Lamp returned to Argos under warranty
    2. Broken coat hanger
    3. Moth eaten jumper - animal rescue place
    4. Old duvet cover - animal rescue place
    5. Old dressing gown - animal rescue place
    6. Book - charity shop
    7. Box of out of date face peels
    8. Tissue holders - charity shop
    9. Pile of unopened post dating back to 2009 :o - shredded

Been thinking alot about a minimalist lifestyle and how we (our family) should spend time/money doing/experiencing things rather than buying material things we dont 'really' need. So im going to try and think of that every time i come to buy something. :) I also keep trying to think of how easy it will be to keep clean and tidy when ive 50% less stuff in the house :) How much time ill have to devote to other things!!
Amen to that. I think we can get a high (some of us) buying stuff, but when that then has to be stored, moved around, gets in the way, causes frustration - where's the bl**dy high then?! :rotfl:

Of course. We all do whatever we can at the rate we can. I'm frustrated and want to get furniture in to help with storage and I can't do that at the moment. My goals have always been inspired by loopychriss on here ever since she said about a goal to get rid of 100 things in 10 days. I've just taken that and made it a month long assault on clutter.
:T Declutter 300 things in the 30 days of November. Just 10 things a day:
    1. Bag (charity)
    2. Old manual for some long gone equipment
    3. Dead batteries
    4. Bunch of papers
    5.6. Magazines
    7. Couple of boxes/parcels that should have gone ages ago to the post office

Right made a start. Be back later :A
    8. Broken key
    9. Old notebook
    10. Decluttered freezer as part of prepare for winter thread - binned two very old ready meals

So that's a good start. I think I'd like to get ahead of target today so I'm off to nose around the man drawers/the dining table for 15 minutes.
:) Declutter 300 things in December challenge, 9/300. Clear the living room. Re-organize storage
:cool2: Cherryprint: "More stuff = more stuff to tidy up!"
Less things. Less stuff. More life.
 Fab thread: Long daily walks
  • November has started well:

    1-5 five books to cs.
    6 one folder to cs.

    That's 6/50.

The broken fence panels I offered on Freecycle (for bonfire wood) were collected this afternoon & DH offered them the damaged bench too - hope the bonfire burns well :)

70 items today - shame I go back to work on Monday.
I can cook and sew, make flowers grow.

I'm finding that although I'm pretty much keeping on top of things since the move, I still need to sort through and get rid of some more 'stuff' again
    So

    1. Old tatty slippers - bin.
    2-4. Hardback books x 3 - CS
    5. Old tray - recycling.
    6-9. Odd socks x4 - Bin.
    10. Used up bath bubbles - recycling.
    11. Tatty underwired bra with one wire poking through - bin.
    12. Shirt that hubby hates wearing - bin.
    13. Old tatty work shoes - bin.
    14. Finally finished a box of tumble drier sheets that I've had for about 3 or 4 years, lol :T

Also chucked out some OOD food from the fridge and stale bread.

    Soon adds up doesn't it?

    eta:
    15. Tupperware insert thingy (?) - recycling.
    16. Various bits of paperwork that's either out of date or pertains to the old house and is no longer needed/paid off etc....
    Illegitimi non carborundum.

Hope you don't mind me joining again :o
96 items decluttered so far in 2013 :)
  • Welcome back aligerdie, you've cetainly made a good start to November. We'll try and inspire you if you'll do the same for us!
  • Have you manged to find the deeds yet, loopychriss? If they don't turn up can't you trace them online? I think all property is registered automatically now, rather than relying on us mere mortals lodging them with banks, solicitors etc.
We've got a document from the Land Registry, which hubby says will do. I'm sure I've seen a long envelope somewhere though with 'House Deeds' written on it.... Or did I imagine it????

I've been trying to achieve that too: I'm an almost-reformed hoarder. I can part with most things, but my fabric stash is the one thing I cannot let go quite yet. However, I have stopped buying things just for the sake of it and do stop myself when I'm tempted.

Welcome back aligerdie, of course we don't mind you joining in again. The November challenge isn't a set number - I'm aiming for 100 initially, mineallmine is trying for 10 things a day during November. It's what you're comfortable with and what you think you might achieve. It's not a competition, some of us are nearly at the end of our decluttering journey so won't have as many as those just starting. Good luck - remember, one thing at a time = decluttered house!

Well, good start for November here: I actually got some time to myself to sort through, so today's little lot:-

    1. Air freshener with gel pearls - hubby accidentally knocked it down the loo, so pearls down loo and container binned
    2. Patchwork magazine - charity shop
    3. Table lamp - charity shop
    4. Wheeled shelf unit thing - charity shop
    5. Old photo album with discoloured pages - bin
    6. Old paying in book from when I was Treasurer of a charity - shredded
    7. Charity ID card: card shredded, lanyard put away with current charity stuff
    8. Old charity newsletters - paper recycling
    9. 2 batteries from computer mouse - battery recycling
    10. Loads of old receipts - shredded
    11. Photo frame mount (all bent and creased) - paper recycling
    12. Duplicate booklet from investment company - paper recycling
    13. Out of date CRB certificate - shredded
    14. Loads of plastic wallets - charity shop
    15. 2m curtain heading tape - charity shop
    16. Lid to a plastic box that is long gone - bin
    17. Property details from house we looked at in July - shredded
    18. Blackboard eraser thing from kid's set - charity shop
    19. Fabric scraps - fabric recycling bin
    20. 1 pretty box that mugs came in: I love the box, it's a Rennie McIntosh design, quite sturdy with a magnetic closer. I had 2 and they've just been sitting on the dressing table gathering dust, so one is going to charity shop and I'll find a use for the other!
    21. 1 lined wicker basket that held baby toiletries - charity shop
    22. Embossing stylus set (for crafts) - crafty tombola on 21st
23/24. 2 unmounted rubber stamps - craft tombola
    25. Pack of notelets - craft tombola
    26. 3 fat quarters of fabric - craft tombola
    27. Pack of acetate sheets for craft - craft tombola
    28. Pack of patterned papers - craft tombola
    29. Box making board - craft tombola
30/31. 2 pairs of giant knitting needles - charity shop
    32. 1 plastic craft box lid - bin
    33. 1 plastic craft box bottom (didn't fit the lid, different sizes) - bin

Going into town tomorrow to take a load to charity shop, so those items will be out of the house completely. All the tombola stuff will be here until 21st, but it is being wrapped and put in a box tidily so won't be cluttering up. Whew, for someone who hasn't visibly got much left to declutter that's quite a haul!

Well done to you all for the decluttering you have done.

I didn't get much done in October but am so far doing well in November. This morning I tidied up in our garage to prepare for our log delivery later this afternoon. My OH had a big pile of scrap metal to sell which was lying all over the garaqe floor that has now been put together neat and tidy ready to be sold soon. I swept the garage floor as well and got rid of packaging material.

In the afternoon I emptied our corner kitchen cupboard then cleaned it and then put the content back again, only threw away one item but at least it looks tidy now. I also decluttered a few things from the worktop to go into corner cupboard.

Good luck to everyone in November.
No toiletries challenge, started 18/1/2010 - Putting £1 in my savings jar for every item that I use up. Pot 1 to 4 = £261. Pot 5=£23
    Boots points:£39.21. Extra money in 2012:£674.59. In 2013 £603.48. 2014: £85. 2015: £0 :j
