Decluttering 2012, this year, definitely ...

For at least a couple of years, one of the drawers in our wardrobe unit has been broken, so today OH and I swapped the chest of drawers in our room (which has the same drawers) for the one in the spare room, took a drawer out and put it in the wardrobe unit. This has given us an extra drawer for clothes storage, and at the moment I have 2 empty drawers in the chest of drawers that we put in our room, as it has slightly bigger drawers, although they will probably be full once I’ve washed and dried the clothes in the laundry basket. In the space left by the missing drawer which is now in the spare room, I have put some of my DS’s ring binders so they are out of the way.
OH also put in the loft 3 desk fans, 2 bin bags of stuffed toys, and DS’s tent and sleeping bag. Finished a tube of face wash and put tube in recycling
A few years ago my dad gave me 2 large pairs of curtains, which he found dumped at our local recycling centre, I used one to make a new cover for the cushion on our sun lounger, and the other three have since been in a bag in the ‘cupboard of doom’. I am now in the process of adapting them to make some curtains for my dad’s flat, his windows are quite small so I should be able to make him 2 pairs out of 1 of the pairs, so hopefully they will soon be out of the way.
Most of you are putting me to shame, but well done all, I'm going to try for 100 items in November, and hopefully I'll do better than I have for the past couple of months, lol!Weight loss challenge 2/10lbs

Yay.... finally got all the charity shop stuff out of the house.... then lunchtime a friend called round with a big sack of toys and books for the grandchildren if they want them, or the charity shop if they don't!! So much for decluttering.....
Found some more bits today, very slow today as we were woken up by the chimney sweep at 7am (appointment was 8am!), then had grandaughter for the day while her mum & dad went Christmas shopping. Place looks like a tip now that she's gone, other daughter and grandson still here so no chance of it being tidy again till they've gone back home (Monday hopefully).
Today's findings:
34. Child's coat hanger repurposed into some sort of storage unit for headphones at local church by hubby
35. Car sunshade - charity shop
36. Pair of trousers - charity shop
37. Oil burner bought for some Yankee wax tarts but too small - charity shop
38. Worn out green scourer found lurking in the bathroom - bin
Not going out over the weekend so should find some more... going to venture into my fabric stash and see if I can possibly let some of it go!Keep Calm and Carry On Kondoing

Hello declutters,
Please may I join you with a decluttering total of 100? It would be good to end the year hoping that next year will be more focussed on more important things. I do have a list that so far covers this month.
Thanks.0 -

Good morning all, especially Dannie - good to have you with us. Tiglath, well done on the book moving - I have a similar problem which is why I account for them separately (in case I just ignore them!) and donnajt, so pleased you made that ironing/decluttering decision so now you're free to roam around the rest of the kitchen!
This morning I pulled a few things from my bathroom cabinet, took out oddments from my stationery treasure trove and picked up a couple of items from a box in the bedroom:
4 unused bathroom items - cs
3 unused bathroom items - down sink and recycled
1 bathroom item - binned
1 bedside light - cs
1 pk ice grippers - cs
15 spines - cs
5 rulers - cs
1 ruler - fire
1 ruler - bin
1 letter opener - fire
1 letter opener - cs
1 pencil sharpener - cs
1 book - cs

Morning all! :j
Mostly a lurker coming out of my closet! Everyone is doing well - keep going.
I started my de-cluttering journey about a year ago when I had to move back home with mum and dad. I did a bit, then a bit more and then it got serious! I kept a total of everything I sold (about half of what I chucked) and it came to about £750. I'm not that old - how did I acquire all this carp?! The other half was donated, recycled or chucked. I can proudly say there is an echo in my bedroom now haha.
It does get easier with time and as someone posted earlier it becomes habitual - as soon as something is finished with (e.g. a dvd) you can immediatley decide if it is a keeper, pass it on, sell or donate it. I also found that setting fire to things (e.g. old furniture and cardboard/papery things) quite cathartic - really letting go of the old
I love reading this thread on a daily basis, it keeps me motivated to keep ontop of things, gives me ideas and I like seeing how other people are progressing:TAll that is gold does not glitter
