Wishing all of us well with our decluttering today. I looked at the boxes/packets/tins of food in the cupboard today and decided I have things I do not like. There is only me here and I wouldn't cook something I dislike for visitors - so I'll wander through the shelves and see what I can find. So far it's almonds and dried peas. And a book from elsewhere :)

50 mins later - I have pulled out tins, jars and packets that really belong elsewhere, put some things in storage baskets so they are easier to reach on the higher shelf and binned 20 old/disliked items. I can now see what needs using up first - and also remind myself that with 5 packets of pearl barley I need to cook more stews and NOT buy any more.
  • Morning all.

The chocolate fountain sold for a fiver on ebay. Bit disappointed as was hoping to get at least £15 but better than giving it away I suppose. Going to be collected tonight.

Computer keyboard was meant to be being collected by freecycler today but when I tried to go into the loft last night to get it the hatch door jammed! as it was 11pm I didn't want to spend too much time on it so will have to try again when I get home this eve. I don't know why that has started happening lately as it was fine before. Do you think wd40 would help even though its wood? :(

3 items on ebay have bids so am bracing myself for various trips to the PO next week. It would be nice if everyone paid immediately so I could just go the once.

Did a bit or sorting yesterday. Put a pile of towels away in their storage box in the bathroom (they've only been on the spare bed for about 3 weeks, lol!), and got rid of:-

13 a huge vacuum storage bag - binned as the seal was broken
14 an old shower curtain, which has been in the bottom of the laundry basket for a couple of months - binned as I realised I wasn't going to use it again
15 a manky pair of shoes - binned
    16 manky cloth - binned
17 handwash bottle - emptied and recycled
18 pile of paperwork - shredded and put in green waste bin
19 pile of newspapers/magazines from beside the sofa - recycled
    20 5 expired credit/debit cards - shredded and binned
21 about 20 small metal items (mostly shoe buckles out of my mum's button box) - recycled
22 moisture absorber crystals (which have been in the shed for at least 5 years!) - finally put in the moisture absorber to be used

While going through my mum's button box, I was trying to decide whether to keep them (for sentimental reasons), or send them to the CS so someone can maybe make use of them, I'm now thinking that I will keep any that I may use, and any that bring back memories, and send the rest to CS. I will keep the tin that she had them in, as I've always liked it, and I may empty my button collection into it and get rid of my tin instead.

I've listed a few videos on ebay, and if they don't sell I will offer them on freecycle instead, I've still got a few boxes of videos in the shed to go through, which will also go on freecycle when I get around to sorting them.

Part-time poster here and part-time declutterer too!

This weekend I aim to remove a black bin bag amount each day. Already I have one at the door and yesterday I took a large number of items to CS. Unopened/unwatched DVDs which were found lurking in a bedroom drawer (?) included!

After at least two years of 'sorting' out I am now being much more ruthless with it all. If I want space I have to create it from within the room which means getting rid.

Claws are out. Mind is set. Stuff will go.

Great to read everyone efforts, good inspiration and shows that clear floors and cupboards are not just a pipe dream.

    Thanks all.

Hi, I have just loaded the boot with some broken items to take to the tip. I bed rail, a radio, thigh master (?!) and a microwave. I have just cleaned the worksurface behind the microwave before i replaced it with a new one. Freaked when I thought I saw a mouse poo but on closer inspection it appears to be long dead woodlouse!_pale_

  • I forgot to mention that the other day I took a shopping trolley full of books and some dvds to The Scot's Kirk here. They'd been waiting in the cellar for well over a month until I could go.All these items had previously been listed.

On the minus side,I bought 7 books.:o Ideally I should now declutter 7 books from my shelves.I might have a look this weekend.

    Wish me luck!

Well done everyone on the decluttering.

    Evening fellow declutterers

DS, without being asked (he's 10) has decluttered his books. I now have a pile to take into school on Monday.
I have finally sorted out my winter clothes and have a black bag for the charity shop.

I must confess to a lot of "ins" this week. Half term is traditionally the time when we sort out winter clothes and kit my four out with their winter stuff. I have also nearly finished my Christmas shopping and done some wrapping for family members, off course this will be an "out" when it gets sent to Father Christmas.

    Happy decluttering
