Decluttering 2012, this year, definitely ...

Thank you for the birthday wishes..... As I thought, I didn't get my duvet day: youngest daughter came to pick me up at 11, then we went to Bluewater (big shopping centre local to us) where we met my other daughter and granddaughter. Had a Pizza Hut lunch, then I went to Mastercuts and got my hair cut before I could change my mind! (It badly needed doing). Then went to pick grandson up from school. I got home about 4pm, so it was too late to go back to bed then....
Anyway..... no decluttering from house done today, only loads of my grey hair at the hairdressers! Must try harder tomorrow!!!Keep Calm and Carry On Kondoing

Good morning all
A gentle start to the day - I looked through a bundle of remote controls, put some by their machines and binned two. Also I decided to actually do something about the lockless keys which seem to breed! I've put them in a plastic bag (so I don't forget them) and consciously decided where to put the bag. I attacked one small pile, but I know they are lurking everywhere, so now as I deal with an area I'll try and de-key it completely. My next target is 2 drawerfuls of scarves.0 -
Morning all, I'm awake before everyone else today, so enjoying a bit of Mse in peace
In the fifteen minutes I had yesterday I got 2 boyish blankets and some bibs to donate to a pregnant friend who is having a boy (we are having a girl this time), 3 books for charity, tidied the kids clothes boxes up (stuff for baby to grow into and the elder kids next years clothes). Got a load of washing on the go. Tidied the kids toys in dining room and hoovered the hallway. Got my charity stuff piled up so think I may actually take this today
Today I already plan to throw out my old mop head as bought a new one last weekend to go with my newly tiled kitchenfirst this am I have toddler group, then I plan to go to Argos and get a cheap landline phone. All the phone calls I've been making on my mobile to companies are costing me a fortune! Then get some decluttering and tidying done including plenty of washing. No rest for me! Though I must try to take it easy as last night we thought I was going into early labour! Had regular tightenings for 2 hours, luckily they tailed off, I'm not quite term yet, another 10 days to go until I hit the magic 37 weeks

Hi , new to this thread. I am going to do our bedroom today and work my way downstairs! Will let you know !Obstacles are things a person sees when he takes his eyes off his goal.0

Think I've made some good progress yesterday. Cleared a whole area of our bedroom (can actually get through the door in a normal fashion now), got rid of a load of junk, done about 3 loads of washing, hoovered all of upstairs. Will hoover downstairs today, more washing (where does it all come from?!), have changed the bed clothes and been to see midwife. Hoping to clear another corner of the bedroom too if I get the chance.
So updated outage...

I think the problem with me is that I have a hard time accepting that the things I need / want to get rid of are mostly not really worth anything. I'm more and more coming round to the idea that the space / ease of cleaning / reduced stress of having less stuff hanging around, is probably worth a lot more than the pence I might get per item if it ever actually sold. Am trying now to just give each item a few chances to sell, and if not, to accept that I tried and just let it go.
Thank you for your post I am with you totally. I think I have some sort of fear as money is tight that I really can't do without the pennies & therefore my pile grows.............................in each room:oFrugal Challenge £9000

I have come to the conclusion that my 7 year old son has WAY too many toys. It's not his fault he has so many. I would say 90% have come from bootsales for only a few pence, and when you see such a bargain it is hard to say no/pass it by. The rest are birthday and Christmas presents.
However, his bedroom (a large double one) is now full to capacity and something must de done. Yesterday I got him to sort out some things for the local animal sanctuary charity shop but a lot more needs to go. I may put some stuff in the loft (things he doesn't want to part with yet but never plays with) and hopefully in a few months they will be forgotten and I can get rid of them.
Most of the time he plays with the same few toys (cars, Lego and play figures, a few board games) and the rest get left or played with once a month.
I have read that children with too many toys find it harder to concentrate on playing than those with fewer. So I am on a mission to reduce his toys:cool:0 -

urgh. Nothing done that was planned except 1 wash load. stripped the kids beds but got other washing to tackle first. Everything was going well until we came down stairs to find the dog had had the runs in the night :puke: so took an age to sort that. Had him in the garden whilst i cleaned and he ran, rolled and slipped in loads of water/mud so then needed to bathe him
and clean the bathroom afterwards! And also one of our chickens popped its clogs through the night so had to move the body
So not a very good day so far!
However ive now finally managed to rest and eat some lunch! So feeling a bit like i can actually do something positive in the house today! just not sure where to start!

Some advice please groupies, if you would...
I am trying to sort cupboards out. My kitchen is quite modern, galley type, few cupboards and little space for storage.
If you use plastic storage boxes for rice/pasta etc, do you feel that is economical on space? Do you have an alternative system?
Don't have huge amounts of money so don't want to waste money on storage boxes if they don't really do the job.
Advice please...
Have a great Friday all
