Happy birthday loopchriss, your plans for the day sound perfect!
Not much to update, lugged in the books to send off to Amazon at lunchtime, boy were they heavy!0 -
Hi, please can I join you all? I've been trying to declutter for as long as I can remember as our house seems to be bursting at the seams with stuff. Have had a lot if stuff piled to one side for bootsale-ing, and whilst some things have gone, there's still a load left. However, with our first baby due any day now, I'm starting to think that it might just be best all round to just get stuff gone...it's so hard though, I feel torn between wanting the space and knowing that the less visual clutter there is the more relaxed and calm the house feels, and then thinking but if I hold onto this stuff, eventually hopefully it will sell and that would be a few more pennies to go towards debts. Do other people feel like this too, or is it just me?!
Anyway, I'm aiming to at least clear 100 items in October....so far...
1 - 2. Magazines into recycling
3-5. Holey socks - bin
6. OH's holey pants - bin
7. Skirt - ebayed
8. Top - ebayed
9 - 10. Books - freecycled
11. Ripped jeans - bin
12. Massive cardboard box - recycling
It's a drop in the ocean of what still needs to be done, but I suppose it all helps in the end?0 -

Today I'm having a big tidy up and declutter of my food cupboards. My plan is to eat out the freezer and cupboards but going shopping this evening for the basics to be able to make meals out of the weird things I have left! Now it's getting colder it's time to get the slowcooker out! Made a lovely sausage casserole out of random items and got 4 portions in the freezer
I'm home alone for 2 weeks from tomorrow so the house is going to get a big declutter and makeover for when they come back0 -

Welcome snowbean, it's good to have you along. I think you have identified a reason why a lot of us have piles of stuff but it sounds as though the new baby will be a great incentive for you to clear some more space. Sometimes ebay and freecycling seem just a little slow and then the cs comes into its own. Good luck with the 100 out in October, you may find once you've started with that aim that you exceed it. Decluttering is addictive!0 -
Thanks Silentsister. I'm definitely hoping to exceed 100 items...I really NEED to...but thought I'd start with a smaller goal so as not to get disheartened.
I think the problem with me is that I have a hard time accepting that the things I need / want to get rid of are mostly not really worth anything. I'm more and more coming round to the idea that the space / ease of cleaning / reduced stress of having less stuff hanging around, is probably worth a lot more than the pence I might get per item if it ever actually sold. Am trying now to just give each item a few chances to sell, and if not, to accept that I tried and just let it go.0 -
Nothing done at all today or last night thanks to the youngest refusing to sleep until 11.30pm!! And ive been out all day at a monthly parenting meet. Daughter has horse riding tonight so not going to have much time today i dont think.
Might spend 15 mins trying to do some sort of decluttering now whilst the kids are watching toy story....so bye for now

Hi guys xx
Had a busy couple of days with work and ferrying DD around and visitors.
Not a great deal done, but:
3. Pile of odd socks that have been waiting, with no luck, for their partners.
4. 1 1/2 bags for charity pick up in the morning
5. Old fish tank to friend to use when she is cleaning her big one....................0
