Ok, I have a child's dinner set from the 60's, hugely sentimental, but I don't look at it unless I'm moving house. I chucked the box, it was falling to bits but silly to do, so do I ebay it? Or car boot it? Or keep it? No-one to give it to. Doubt anybody would want it. It's willow pattern, and reasonable condition. I need to get rid of things I like, but I never look at. Last link with childhood.

I have stuff like this. a fair bit really. I like keeping things like that though as it is part of my history. I keep them in a set of storage boxes, admittedly in the loft but I like them them there, I can look at them if I want and they organised and specific items kept for specific reasons.

Started de-cluttering to use up some energy as prowling round the house last night and so far:

Bag of good clothers to charity shop
Bag of rubbish clothes in bin
2 toy boxes sorted - anything broken in bin, anything too babyish to charity shop and the lids shut YAY
  • Here is my productive day so far -

10 15 Lush black containers (to go back to the shop for recycling)
11 - 13 3 different packets of obscure foodstuff that will not get eaten.
14 Towel rail given to hubby to screw on wall in garage/workshop
    15 Rollerblind (to be freecycled)
16 A yearsworth of photocopied syndicate lottery tickets that had been checked but not thrown
17 Pyrex plate taken back to my mum's this morning.
18 Bag of shower curtain rings (to be freecycled)
19 – 22 4 toiletry gift sets that were ungiven Christmas presents from last year (charity shop)
23 thrown away various small bathroom items that had migrated into the little bedroom/dumping ground when we had the bathroom done last Easter.

So far this morning I have made some bread, visited my mum and dad, dusted (thick dust!!) and decluttered the television unit.

After this break I am now going to iron, then take the old computer back upstairs (was brought downstairs to try and make the TV a smart TV but is too slow and has lay unused there for a year), hoover the dust clumps from round the television and then try and finish my crochet blanket.

I didn’t realise how good I feel just seeing everything written down. :j

How much room does it take up? Is there any value to it? Would you miss it? Maybe these are questions you should be asking yourself.

if its sentimental - how about displaying a couple of pieces somewhere?

I have decluttered a few empty boxes today and loads of dust. I tidied the mantel piece today and also dusted it together with all the door frames. I cannot believe how much dust there was!

On Monday OH goes away for nearly 2 weeks so I have decided to tidy on shelf per day in our bookshelf in the living room, just looking at that bookshelf makes me feel low.

    Good luck with your decluttering
No toiletries challenge, started 18/1/2010 - Putting £1 in my savings jar for every item that I use up. Pot 1 to 4 = £261. Pot 5=£23

  • Can I join in? I have so much I want to do but seem unable to achieve anything as there is just so much stuff in the house. It is as though the weight of it all stops me doing things. I am hoping that by decluttering I will gain more energy.

I'm going to be joining too- moving house in 2 weeks, still waiting for one last credit check then it's a go- haven't packed a thing and we've been here 5 1/2 yrs and had 3 kids in that time. NO storage space and a lot of clutter! Eek!!

    Today I've:
-decluttered the craft shelves and organised what's left
-made a start at using up some of those crafty 'kits' the children keep getting that take up space
-cleared a bookshelf in our room. Got a bag of things to sell, a charity shop bag, and organised what was left
-shifted littlest into the bedroom with the other 2 so we have time and space to clear our room (aka. dumping ground) in the evenings

tomorrow I'm going to tackle the kitchen and start boxing things up that we wont' need in the next 2 weeks. Plan to shift things to the new house as they're packed, then do the big move with a van in 2 weeks time.
