I spent hours last night listing a few more things for ebay. I have no idea why it takes me so long . It's a bit faster using my iphone but if I do a "proper listing" and have to sort out somewhere to take the photo (it's either too dark, too messy, too small...), upload it to an image hosing site, write the listing etc it takes me ages and I don't seem to get anything done. I know it's going to be slow going, there are only so many hours in the day and I have a house and four kids (and oh) to look after but this is going to take years!

Best way I've found is to
    1) take the all photos, upload and edit them......sort them into categories (ie kids clothes - trousers, tops, etc).
    2) then weigh each item and write it down on a piece of paper or notebook - ie blue boys top - 284g
    3) and write the postage next to the weight. (it helps if you print out the royal mail postage prices beforehand)

Then when u come to actually list...you can do everything without having to get up and down all the time.
And because you've sorted them into categories, once you've created one listing, you can then use it as a template for the next listing (select 'Sell similar item') and change the picture and some of the details like size and postage.

Well what a morning i've had.

I have been covered in dust and attacked by a plastic pigeon (don't ask!), I have blubbed over old birthday cards from long passed relatives and a tiny scrap of paper from my dad who died years ago.

I have also LOL'd at my OH's school reports
Games - "Fairly slow for his age but shows interest when the ball reaches him" :rotfl:
House report "He is rather slow, almost pedantic around the house and i should like to see him more lively" - 45 years later and nothing changes :D
House report again "I find him relatively responsible" damning with faint praise
Games "shows no interest at all"
    Games "Shows very little aptitude"
Games "not very keen with regard to cricket"
HOuse report "X's contribution to the house is rather limited by his current consuming interest" - No change there then.:rotfl:
Geography "Diagrams are good but he is reluctant to acquaint himself with facts" but he is now "tolerant of cricket"

    Sorry, I digress

    So I have cleared

    16. 2 years worth of college notes
    17. 1 old letter writing set
18 SOme CD's of outdated student work
    19. Some other course notes to go to work as still may be of use
    20. 2 virgin kids bags - bin, too grotty for CS
    21. 1 signed photo of Lee Mead - don't ask
22 A bunch of scruffy gift bags
    23. Some foreign currency that doesn't even exist anymore
    24. A bottle of ink - how should i dispose of ink?
    25. Kids cycle helmet - CS
    26. 2 border stencils from ikea and a brush - ebay
    27. Lightbulb for a strip light, which we have never had and are unlikely to now
    28. Old camera box
    29. Broken comb (!)
    30. Old handbag (which had a letter from mum that was an addendum to her will - more blubbing!)

    I also found
    • some old knitting patterns that haven't dated at all
    • some foreign currency still in existence amounting to over £5 worth, that i can use this year
    • a frame for a picture that i've had for 3 years
    • daughters school report that i need to send off for her 6th form application
There is also a pile of stuff awaiting OH's decision as to it's disposal and another for ebay.

So not the 100 that i'd hoped for (tho individual items probably don't fall far short, college notes alone were about 10 folders! :o) but bloomin good anyway.:T
I wanna be in the room where it happens
  • Well I have been on a mission today after the wardrobes last night.

    23. Bag of clothes too small for wee one into CS bag.
    24. Bag of odds and ends that were no good binned.
    25. Tin of sweets from Christmas gifted.
    26. Box of biscuits gifted.
    27. Some packs of sweets sent with son to his dads.
    28. Half a tin of sweets from Christmas given to sons dad.
    29. Remote control car went to sons dad with him as he has one here.
    30. 4 tubes of Bisto gravy paste (just disgusting and salty and watery and thin, would never be used) lobbed in the bin.
    31. Few jars of herbs/spices that were all stuck together, not looking good thrown.
    32. 2 old air freshener plug ins binned as I have no refills and only had them as they were super cheap.
    33. 2 tubs of stuff from the fridge binned, meant for dinner last night but ended up doing something different and couldn't refreeze so that was binned.
    34. Small bag of broken toys/bits that didn't go with anything he had etc binned.
    35. 2 ripped books under sons bed binned (Little monkey!)
    36. Bedding added to fabric bag for freecycle, ripped in a couple of places so no good for CS.
    37. 3 bedding sets added to CS bag.

A good day today I think and I'm up to 37 items. I really have to study now. I don't think decluttering will be an acceptable excuse for getting behind lol!

I've spent the first week of the year thinking about how I was going to tackle the decluttering this year. Usually i do it in themes...books, kitchen stuff, kids clothes etc and I do two waves per year, in January and again in summer.

But this year I'm going to try a different approach. I'm going to do a week per room of cleaning, organising AND decluttering. This may not sound much but I've got a big house with big rooms, four bedrooms, a study, attic (that counts as two rooms!), a hall that goes on forever and a utility room. Even the small room like the bathroom could do with a good scrub down while I'm in there, so I've got plenty to do.

Ok, I have a child's dinner set from the 60's, hugely sentimental, but I don't look at it unless I'm moving house. I chucked the box, it was falling to bits but silly to do, so do I ebay it? Or car boot it? Or keep it? No-one to give it to. Doubt anybody would want it. It's willow pattern, and reasonable condition. I need to get rid of things I like, but I never look at. • Ditch 100 things in January

I'd like to join in please. I joined this time last year and was very enthusiastic, got rid of tons of stuff and had a clean, tidy house. However, hubby retired in April and since then we've taken on babysitting duties, and somehow 'stuff' has gradually crept back in.

I can't resist a bargain so am always buying things in Poundland and the 99p shop, and anything that is a bargain to put away for birthdays and Christmas. I now have to realise that not many of these things actually make it for presents, as I tend to hoard stuff and don't like parting with it. It doesn't help that hubby and I do a lot of fundraising and are well known for taking in other people's cast offs!!! I'm also a crafter/sewer and have tons and tons of craft stuff and fabric stashed away in my craft room.

I need to declutter: I aspire to being a minimalist but it's just not happening! So, I'm going to start today and go and have a clear out. I'm sure I can find 100 things by the end of January.... even by this time next week I should think!

:embarasse Oh dear, I haven't been counting as I missed the bit about 100 items. BUT yesterday the bin men took away lots of old boxes for recycling plus a bag of junk for the tip, and a nice Freecycler took away some expensive half-used shampoo that has been taking up space in my cupboard. On Monday the charity shop collector will be getting two big bags of stuff and I have a few items put aside to donate to the school PTA for their quiz night prizes.

Off now to take photos of stuff to sell on Facebook/Ebay - photoing them is always the fiddly bit so once the photos are done I can get on with it :)
