Decluttering 2012, this year, definitely ...

I used to be part of this thread and then work got in the way and my house is a tip again. HOWEVER, we're now in the process of moving into our first house (fingers crossed
), and there is a golden opportunity for us to get rid of all our rubbish, most of which is in the garage. It's mainly cr*p that would not even sell on ebay or at a car boot sale
We have already filled a half ton bag of rubbish and there is plenty more in the garage. I still have to catch up on my university work (I'm studying part-time), so I can't devote all my time to the sorting out, but I vow to start afresh in our first house. We don't have the choice anyway as we won't have a garage and will be too skint to afford a garden shed :rotfl:
I know I will never be a minimalist, but I am certainly looking forward to getting rid of some more stuff
Incidentally, how does one manage to sell stuff on ebay if one does not have any "reputation" (ie, an ebay virgin). By that I mean: does that put people off? I only bought a couple of items from ebay but they were all from "companies", not at auction.
PS: and yes, you read correctly, we filled a half ton bag full of rubbish from our garage0 -
Decluttering update from the Moorhen nest.
30-32 three bags of clothes to the CS.
33 Bag of underwear to a refuge.
34 Book to a friend.
More decluttering in process.
Have a lovely day everyone.:)0 -
I was going to make a start on the paperwork but defrosted the freezer instead. Will declutter the frozen blackberries into an apple and blackberry crumble for tea.
The freezer is now back in action and will soon be filled with lots of homemade goodies, my next job is making some lasange and sausage casseroles for easy back-at-work-teas. That will declutter rather a lot of tinned tomatoes from the stock cupboard.
Enjoy the rest of the day.

We all start off that way on ebay, if you have already bought you may have feedback that will help. I found when I started out just being really honest about item descriptions, being really careful about postage costs and only charge actual post/stamp price.
Got to be honest one of my ebay parcels that I posted today was to an ebayer with feedback of 1 , not everyone is a scammer on ebay and if we never trusted anyone on ebay with low feedback / new accounts, there would be no-one to buy from or sell to. Then again when I post in a week or two that I have been scammed you can all say "I told you so":rotfl:.
The Ebay thread on here is worth a read if you are a bit nervous, there is some wonderful advice on there and they offer great support and wisdom if you have a problem.
Decluttering efforts today include:
14. pair of flip flops that soles had given way on to bin.
15 - 23. 5 x ebay sales and recycled packaging to PO.
am averaging decluttering 1 item a day at this rate:rotfl:.:j DEBT FREE FROM 01/01/11 :j

Today I took fourteen years worth of back issues of my favourite gardening magazine to a craft event I was going to, neatly tied up in complete sets of 12 months. I swapped half of them away for useful but non-cluttery things like garden eggs and a bag of tomatoes. The rest will go on the stall at our allotment Open Day tomorrow and hopefully raise a few pennies for funds.
I was a bit astounded at the 14 years worth actually. That's 168 magazines! I don't keep or indeed buy any other gardening magazines but The Kitchen Garden was the first of its type to come out, 15 years ago, and I've bought and read every issue since. They were all neatly filed in magazine holders along the bottom of the book cases so I sort of forgot they were all there tbh.
I decided to keep the most recent 12 however and as each new issue comes in, I'll dispose of the corresponding one from 12 months ago. I do use them as reference guides to the upcoming seasons. I don't think 12 is unreasonable but a total of 180 certainly was!
Just shows you though. It may be tidy but it's still pointless clutter. Eggs are much more useful!
My dad does exactly the same with his readers digest magazines. When he has 24, he donates the first twelve to the dentist/doctors/hospital. When my mam was in hospital, i went into the day room and saw twelve readers digest magazines in order....ha ha, i knew my dad had been in..0 -
About 40 books to my SIL and family. 3 ebay parcels posted. 2 huge boxes of catering stuff gone to MIL's shop. A good start to the week.0

Did a bit more today...my DD and I decluttered her two shelves in the lounge bookcase and got rid of about thirty books. Some will go to the school library, the others to the charity shop.
I went through the cupboard under the sink and dug out all the bottles of cleaning materials with half an inch left in them and put them in a box. I'll use them for all my cleaning chores this week then out the bottles go.
I started clearing out my huge double dresser. It's what's called a Butler's Pantry and it's massive, so big it can swallow the contents of an average semi-s kitchen and then some. But I've forgotten what's in there and debris has built up so I'm having a clear out. One side is full of plates and glasses and vases and such and I've evicted all the odd plates and unused vases. On the other side I keep my main food stores, it needs the bi-monthly clear out and the shorter dates items used up. I quite like doing this because it saves money off this week's budget, so I'll do it tomorrow.Val.0 -
I've started to make great progress!
I got my mum to sort out all of her paperwork and some other bits and we filled the recycling bin, it was near empty yesterday morning! That goes tomorrow morning
I've got another car full for the tip and a box of shredding, when done the shreddings go to my brother for his guinea pigs.
I've got some bits to try sell/take to the charity shop, haven't quite decided on them yet. Also got more to list on eBay. I am getting there

Not much again today, babysitting 20 month old granddaughter. Did manage to declutter a few items though.
101. 2 individual mini pots of jam eaten - not sure what to do with the jars - they might come in useful!!! (Currently in the glass recycling but may be saved yet)
102. Bottle of port given to son-in-law.
103. Old diary put in recycling
104. Wooden emery board for feet - bin
105. 2 dead batteries - will be put in recycling bin in Rymans next week
Not got any babysitting duties until Saturday night now, so hoping to get a good run at the remaining areas of clutter during the rest of the week. I've written a big list of exactly what I want to declutter; finding the motivation to actually get off the computer and do it is proving the difficult bit!Keep Calm and Carry On Kondoing
