Decluttering 2012, this year, definitely ...

Today I took fourteen years worth of back issues of my favourite gardening magazine to a craft event I was going to, neatly tied up in complete sets of 12 months. I swapped half of them away for useful but non-cluttery things like garden eggs and a bag of tomatoes. The rest will go on the stall at our allotment Open Day tomorrow and hopefully raise a few pennies for funds.
I was a bit astounded at the 14 years worth actually. That's 168 magazines! I don't keep or indeed buy any other gardening magazines but The Kitchen Garden was the first of its type to come out, 15 years ago, and I've bought and read every issue since. They were all neatly filed in magazine holders along the bottom of the book cases so I sort of forgot they were all there tbh.
I decided to keep the most recent 12 however and as each new issue comes in, I'll dispose of the corresponding one from 12 months ago. I do use them as reference guides to the upcoming seasons. I don't think 12 is unreasonable but a total of 180 certainly was!
Just shows you though. It may be tidy but it's still pointless clutter. Eggs are much more useful!Val.0 -

Well done on ridding yourself of so many!
What are 'garden' eggs though?Do you mean plain eggs?0 -
for those of you whose motivation is flagging or if you just want some extra motivation, the British Heart Foundation are holding a bag-athon in September. Each bag of donated items raises them £20 on average.
If you'd like to, you can register as an individual or as a 'team' and there is then a league table on their website. Thought the sense of accountability may appeal to some of you?
I know my local BHF shop will collect donations if you have a fair amount to get rid of, so it could be worth enquiring if your one does too.know thyselfNid wy'n gofyn bywyd moethus...0 -

Thanks pavlovs_dog, that's a helpful reminder. For so much of my cs stuff I rely on doorstep collections but recent bags didn't want what I have. This might mean emptying a large part of the sitting room earmarked for cs things.
1 book to recycling
3 sad kitchen items to bin
1 rolling pin to cs
1 spirtle to cs
1 curtain to cs

Bathroom now decluttered and sparkling.
Not a lot to go just the usual empty bottles into recycling bag and general rubbish, about a small bag full. There will be some toothbrushes when the family put the one they use in the tub, I can then get rid of the extra 2 we seem to have aquired.
Got the dentist tomorrow (broken filling) but hoping to make a start on some paperwork.
