Decluttering 2012, this year, definitely ...

just wish I could get OH to de-richard his drawers, cos he's running out of space
I tend to sneak my OH's stuff out (only tatty stuff) and he doesn't usually notice, but a couple of days ago he wanted a t shirt so I got them all out of the ironing basket, so he could choose which one he wanted, and he said 'I thought I had a lot more than that!' Oops, maybe I've chucked too many, lol, but he still has enough for a clean one every day for at least 2 weeks, and will probably buy more!
If only I could get paid for dong de-cluts my life would be complete.
I would love to do that, it would be much more interesting than the job I have now, lol!
Thanks for listening (unless you've fallen asleep)

CallunaHi,
Is it too late to join??
My shed is full of junk and my loft is threatening to fall in with all of the things I keep putting up there 'just in case'. The trouble is there is so much up there that I can never find anything when I do need it - so what is the point.
My plan is to start with the spare bedrooms, then move on to the shed before eventually tackelling the loft. I will try to put bits on Freecycle each day, will Ebay anything I think will sell and will do a bootsale or two during the summer.
I am notoriously bad at completing challenges, but really need to do this as I am not getting any younger and would hate my children to eventually have to clear out all of my rubbish.
Jess
It's never too late, welcome to the thread. One of the reasons I finally decided to declutter, is so no one else has to clear out my stuff when I'm too old to do it myself, or after I die. Last year my dad moved out of a 3 bedroom house and into a 1 bedroom retirement flat, so we had a lot to get rid of, but luckily we had a clear out of most of his rubbish while he was in hospital a year or so before (he'd applied for the flat, and gave me the go ahead to get rid of anything that he wouldn't need), so it wasn't quite as bad as it might have been but we still had loads of boxes to take to CS for him. Although we didn't mind helping him, I'd hate to have my DS doing the same for us, and thinking '!!!!!! have you kept this for?'
Last things to add for July:-
57-67 - 10 unused free sim cards, which should have been activated before the end of 2010 - binned, packaging recycled
68 - Hand cream finished (determined not to buy any more until I've used up all the part finished bottles and tubes, lol!) - packaging binned as not recyclable
So I didn't make the 100 for July, but every item counts and I've got a week off work next week, so hopefully I'll get a bit done then. I've sold 2 items on ebay, but still waiting for payment, so will count those when they've been posted. Good luck for August everyone!Weight loss challenge 2/10lbs

Hi everyone
I was wondering if I could join? I have already begun to have a declutter as I joined the flylady thread two weeks ago. I go back to uni in September (final year) and am determined to have a clutter free house when I go back.
I did a car boot sale on Sunday with some of my [STRIKE]junk[/STRIKE] valuable used goods and managed to get £150:j
At the beginning of the week my DS and I went through his room, he has just turned 13 and no longer plays with 'toys'. We managed to declutter 7 bags of rubbish and at the last count 16 black sacks to take to a car boot this weekend. His bedroom is now completely clutter free. :j
Am aiming for 100 things for August:
1. Carrier bag of unused/unwanted toiletries from bathroom.
2. Shower curtain with shower rings (going to wash shower curtain and take to the car boot).

It's the school holidays so time to de-clutter. Started on the porch yesterday and cleaned and decluttered at the same time. Managed to get rid of 5 pairs of outgrown shoes/boots they will be going to charity in an hour or so.
We have just returned from a camping trip so the cupboard under the stairs which is where the camping gear (and more) is stored has been sorted. Managed to get rid of 2 very old duvets and a pillow and 2 jackets, also off to CS.
Not sure where to start today, but will report back later.
Good luck everyone.

Welcome to all the newbies, and well done for joining. Even if you only declutter a couple of things a day, that's a couple of things that no longer live in your home and are out of your life. It's addictive too, once you've found 5 things, you hunt around to find another five, and so on. Remember - one thing at a time!
Found a couple more things this morning and have disposed of them already, before we go away!
14. Loads more coloured and plain card and paper - SureStart children's centre
15. Another 3 notebooks (how many notebooks can 2 people use in a year?!!!) - SureStart.
16. A suitcase/bag with a broken wheel that won't be any use to us any more - will give to homeless shelter with all their other bits in it
17. 2 swimsuits that I have no hope of ever getting into! Will go to charity shop
Off for a week now, so will resume decluttering when we get back. Have a good week everyone!Keep Calm and Carry On Kondoing

Lat week our focus was the garden and the sheds and they are looking much clearer and cleaner.

loopychriss wrote: »Hi kraftykat, yes, people do sell clothes at boot sales - in fact, when my eldest daughter was a baby that's where I got most of her clothes, as they were always in very good condition. (Being that babies outgrow their clothes rather than wear them out!). People sell anything at car boots these days, so give it a go.
Thanks for that loopychriss, think I'll give it a go after our hols :T0 -
I finally made a decision on the tea services that I have. When my mum died I came into her china and there are four tea sets that she has had aeons and all that I remember with fond memories. The coffee and expresso set I have vowed to keep and also mum and dads wedding present as well, which there is no way I am going to give up on.
There was also another china service she had but she used this quite a bit and when we had visitors so I kind of thought should I keep it? Anyway, today I made the decision that I will sell this china service. Going through it - some of the gold has come off and some of the roses have faded a little. It will make someone a nice little service to have.
It's all quite simple, when I move home I will not be able to take it all with me. I am not in any mood to store stuff in the loft at my new home like I have done at this one and I am having to be hard on myself. If I am to make the best of the things that I want to keep, and show them off to their best, then some stuff is going to have to go. There is no point in me having stuff squirrelled away in boxes for years that is not being used so the upshot is this - it will be sold!Cat, Dogs and the Horses are our fag and beer money:beer:
