I found a Debenhams receipt from 2007 under my bed :o:o:o

I have just found the receipt for my engagement ring dated 16th November 1991.

Have just filled the paper recycling bag and another carrier bag with random bits of paper and old magazines. Have also shredded and binned some other bits of paper. This means that the filing and to do pile can be moved from the breakfast bar in the kitchen to the tray in the study where it is meant to live. I am slowly working towards the breakfast bar having nothing on it but the telly!

If the breakfast bar is clear of clutter will that make the kids and OH less likely to dump stuff on there? Maybe I shall conduct an experiment to see if this is the case. Off to do a bit more now.

    Yay - I've started......with paperwork

    1. I have done the first half of the top drawer of the filing cabinet, and recycled a whole load of papers, and shredded a bulging bin bag full.

    More to follow :T

I've started back up with the challenge for July managed to get Mum to agree to part with all her cassettes and looking on eBay they seem to sell so going to be listing those and some more clothes as well as some of my brother's stuff. Finally making some progress.

I've made a start on a large storage unit in the house. It was previously full and overflowing. It's now about 1/4 full.:j
9 jigsaws have been listed on Freecycle (but have not yet left the house). However, I can start my declutter list for the month with the following:

    1) Large box of recycling (old cards, magazines etc) - recycle bin
    2) Dustbin liner full of general, non-recyclable stuff - bin

(I know technically I could have itemised everything separately but then I wouldn't have got on with it!)

A big welcome to all the newcomers - great to read that some of you have already made a start on the decluttering journey (which is my case is definitely a marathon not a sprint).

Huge congratulations for some amazing achievements in June = very inspiring:T

It's amazing what a deadline can do. Yesterday I decided I had to go through another wardrobe to achieve my total for June.

This resulted in 21 items into the charity shop bag bringing total to 94 (and more things put into the pile for auctioning throughout July)
Then I sorted out a card, gift bag and present for a birthday next month (already delivered to the recepient yesterday :D) and realised I could declutter a load more birthday cards by writing all the July birthday ones at once. Although not actually out of the house they are all written and addressed and stamped where needed so I am counting them. Another 8 in total so 102.
5 items sold on eBay and even though 2 still have not been paid I am counting them = 107
Then tackled a small bookcase and managed to part with 10 for the charity shop = 117
Sorted through the pans/storage drawer and found 8 items for the recycling = 125
Was seriously running short of time by now and wanted to watch the tennis so took an easy option and sorted through newspapers and magazines in front of the TV. 15 into the recycling by 11 p.m. so my final declared total for June is
    140/137
Couldn't have done it without this thread and I have lots more to do but I am also getting into better habits e.g. on Sat morning I only bought fresh stuff (bread, fruit, veg) having planned out a week's meals using things from the pantry and freezer. Not only is this helping towards my decluttering goal but it is also saving money.
Now for July. I am going for 100 as we have lots of activities in the month (see birthdays above) so I won't have much free time at the weekends
Thank you all for the encouragement and the stories :T

Although the house is pretty clear now, I'm going to start a July count as I really wish I'd done one for May and June.

I think I'll aim for 100. If nothing else I'll get that in cardboard boxes when they've all been unpacked, lol.

    1. Kingsize mattress to tip
    2. Kingsize bed base to tip
    3. Dismantled wardrobe from sons room to tip.
    4. Old ironing board to tip.
    5. Debenhams receipt from 2007(see post 3429, lol) in rubbish bag
    6. Curtain blinds to tip
    7. Net curtain rods x 3 to tip
    8. Net curtains x 3 to tip.
    9. Half a loaf of stale bread to tip (start moving house tomorrow so no time to do anything OS with it).
    10. 3 old hair bobbles, a battery, a random button and a hairclip in bin.
    11. Old portable dvd player (no battery pack anymore so not useable) to tip.
    12. Old double size feather bed topper to tip.
    13. Old kingsize feather bed topper to tip.
    14. Binbag of plastic recycling to tip.

    14/100

    drat, lost my reply.
1 raffle prize to charity shop bag
1 additional bag of paper recycling
and the shredder needs emptying which means I'll have to Dys0n the floor.

Rather excitingly, I have moved 3 boxes of paper that I can't get rid of just yet (previous years tax) into the filing cabinet. Well, it made me happy anyway. :rotfl:
And I'm about to empty another filing cabinet drawer. Oh, no I'm not: time to empty the washer.

Hmmm today efforts - finished ALLLLLLLLLL my filing yay! With this, hubby shredded the junk from the filing pile and we binned some rubbish.

Also filled a bag for the charity shop, some clothes, shoes and some ornaments that had been hidden in a cupboard for ages.

You KNOW you have clutter when you discover you now have 4 travel adaptors after buying one a couple of months ago for this years hol :o - This is what happens when you put together two houses and dont empty the cupboards for five years!!!
