Pretty please could I join you lovely lot? We're newly-weds, but have lived together ('in sin' acording to my late grandmother!)for just over 6 years.

We live next door to the in-laws & it was always going to be short-term, so we hung on to a lot of stuff, partly as I felt I was giving up my independence when I moved in (we're several hundred miles from my family) & if it all went wrong I didn't want to be re-buying everything (I used to be cautious to the point of pessimism), and partly because we would have space for everything in our next, bigger, place.

I was made redundant after 5.5 years & took a huge (over 50%) salary cut, so plans to buy somewhere have been delayed drastically, but make no mistake, I am VERY conscious of how lucky I am to have been headhunted straight back into work. No doubt I'll ramble on some more about how we got where we are again soon, if you can bear it....

But anyhoooo...here we are, newly married & have been consistently missing our self-imposed, but somewhat unrealistic deadlines to be de-cluttered, so it's time to sort it out, once & for all! It's time to let go of he insecurities I had, as that 'safety-blanket' of keeping EVERYTHING 'just-in-case we need it' is getting in the way of enjoying our lives.....

Welcome and good luck with your challenge - you'll find lots of support here

Broke a plate yesterday and realised I only had one other that matched so both of them were broken into smaller pieces and put into the bottom of my outdoor pots to improve the drainage when I plant them with bedding. So that 2 more for the jettison list.

This morning I went through 1 wardrobe with the following results:

3 suits into charity bag (tempted to count them as 8 items:D)
    1 jacket into charity bag
1 pair trousers to charity bag.

Also 7 items photographed ready to list (won't count until sold)

1 item which sold over the weekend packaged up (using packaging from stash so double decluttering effect :D)

So am counting another 8 towards my June target making a not so grand total to date of 14/139

    Hi all,

Just climbed up to top of DS cupboard, I had done the other shelves last week, but cba to sort the top one. It is tidy now, but the biggest thing was my duvet, which I have removed and laid on my new bed. I have no mattress, but have just draped the duvet over so I can finish his cupboard.

Couple of broken coat hangers - fling
Torn underbed storage bag - fling

Not much really but has made space for the clothes he's been given that don't fit him yet, and I can see what they are so I know not to buy them myself. He has a winter coat up there, a couple of fleece all in ones, and two pairs of trousers. By current estimates, he might fit in them at christmas, lol.

Bonnie-bumpkins,I have found so much toiletries I dont think I will have to buy any for a least 18 months

Result!! When I was first unemployed I dug out all my stuff like this, including sample sachets of shampoo, little bottles from hotels etc and refused to buy anything until they were all used up, it took months!!

    Mazzarati2000 - welcome

I'm sorting my recycling, we have a weekly council collection of paper/card and plastic bottles/tins. There are LOTS of things in each box but as it's a normal declutter I was thinking I would declare just 2 things for the jettison list, one per box. Ditto with the glass recycling which is not collected but I usually take it to the bottle bank weekly on the way to the station. I'll update when they've actually been taken.

Everyone is doing so well.

I haven't posted for ages, but still read and thank posts from my phone. Things have been so hectic with lots of school events and being here, there and everywhere recently!

I would declare for May but I can't find my list grr, didn't get to 100 but it all helps.

June - I haven't started a list yet but we've been up in the loft and got down lots of my bits to sort through which resulted in a broken cardboard box, 3 bags of coat hangers and lots of papers/old letters etc to recycling. Other things have been condensed and like things put together making more space. Most of it needs to go back up there but we haven't got round to it yet...

Today we decided to bite the bullet with our boxes of car boot stuff. Every 3 or 4 months on an ebay free listing weekend we go through the sale stuff and put a good chunk of it together into a car boot lot and these have always sold. The 'best' stuff we have kept hold of to sell via ebay, facebook or a car boot. We've realised that we're just not going to get to another car boot this year with most Saturdays being out of the question. Bits and pieces sell on facebook, but it's a bind having to dig out stuff every now and then. Also, with postage costs being put up ebay isn't as profitable as it once was. So, we've pulled it all out of the garage once again and apart from a couple of boxes of stuff that we think will sell individually on FB and ebay we've put it all into 3 lots. General stuff (adult clothes, old printer, jigsaws, books, dvds etc); Kids stuff (Loads of books, jigsaws, toys, teddies, clothes etc) and baby (baby bouncer, baby carrier, 2 changing bags, blanket, books and toys etc) and will get them put on ebay today or tomorrow. This will free up so much space in the garage.

We had a good fling from the 'playroom' on Saturday, which resulted in 3 charity bags of recycling being binned, carrier of rubbish and several items to go into the ebay lot. OH is currently going through his CDs, dvds and blu-rays.

OH's brother is inbetween houses for a few weeks so we have most of our garage taken up with his stuff but he's coming for a sort through sometime this week and will have some to chuck/sell. Don't know why he didn't do it before he packed - actually I do, he's 22 and left it all to the last minute so chucked it all in boxes and bags!

Phew, long post but hopefully I'll be back posting regularly so posts will be short and sweet :) Oh, and welcome to the newbies, it helps to know there are lots of us out there and not everyone has a perfect showroom house!
