Decluttering 2012, this year, definitely ...

Welcome wilf, jennyjewel and mazaratti2000!
Am not sure if there IS a listing of what to do (hopefully someone will correct me if I'm wrong). Generally each month people set a target of things to declutter- usually 100 a month, but whatever suits you. Don't feel any pressure to do every month - I've just done this challenge in months I think I am able to cope with it.
Post as often as you like - I post a fair amount as I'm so proud of getting rid of things after years of hoarding. I keep a count to see how I'm doing and help motivate me. Some people count a bag of stuff as 1 out, others will count the number of items in the bag. I mix and match - sometimes I'm so proud of getting rid of every single item that I count them individually, other times its just a pile of leaflets and I cba to count!
There was also a request some time ago for people to say where the items were going - I think that there is a wish for people to not contribute to landfill wherever possible. It is also of interest for other posters - to know what might sell, or be collected etc.
Anyway, welcome and good luck with the decluttering! It really will make your house easier to keep clean and tidy, and improve your life.Mortgage [STRIKE]16/03/2011: £190K 01/01/2017: £107,729.65 [/STRIKE] 01/07/2017: £95,979.89

Me again!
+ 8 travel guides - charity (we tend to research on internet now if going somewhere, so why keep an 8 year old guidebook?)
+ 1 book - returned to friend
+ 1 baking dish - starting to rust - recycling
+ 2 broken bicycle pumps - recycling
Off out now to see some friends, hope you're all enjoying the bank holiday.Mortgage [STRIKE]16/03/2011: £190K 01/01/2017: £107,729.65 [/STRIKE] 01/07/2017: £95,979.89

*sneaks head round corner* Can I join in please? I really need to!
We made a start this weekend already, so....
OUT:
- Black bin bag full of tatty old bedsheets & towels (only good for cleaning or making puppets etc and we have enough cleaning cloths and no kids to make puppets for)
- Carrier bag full of clothes to go to charity shop
- (not quite out but....) Tidied away winter clothes and extra bedsheets & towels into the vaccum bag thingy's that OH's Mum bought us at Xmas, and cleared two shelves in total!
- 2 more empty wine bottles from the kitchen shelf
- Junk mail/unnecessary paperwork into shredding pile, envelopes etc into bin
- general carp into bin
In:
+ Something OH ordered to protect our internet connection. No, I don't understand either. It's a box....thingy
+ The cardboard box the above came in joined the cardboard mountain
+ Groceries (we're in the process of decluttering that!)
I think that's it. We did pretty well considering OH also hoovered the kitchen rug, the living room and the stairs, and I washed up dishes x 3 lots, and got through 5 lots of washing (including the blankets we use on the sofa), completely decluttered the sofas, tidied the bedroom and living room a little, and generally made the place a bit tidier and nicer to live in.
Am knackered now though, and OH is sick! lol. I still need to make pasties tonight too!
I hope you are all well!!February wins: Theatre tickets0 -
A few more things jettisoned while I was cleaning, washing, making lunch etc this morning:
15. Single dish broken into pieces for the outdoor pots
16. Work handbag on which the handle was about to break thrown out and replaced with a bag I bought in the sale at Christmas for this purpose. Double decluttering effect as the new bag had been cluttering the wardrobe
17. Assorted junk from work handbag thrown out e.g. half a pack of wet wipes that aren't or recycled (old shopping lists etc).
18. Sorted through envelope of coupons and recycled the ones that have expired, gave the Mr T computers for schools vouchers to teacher neighbour and reminded myself to use the ones that are still in date.
19. Leather Blackberry holder into charity bag
20. Another pair of trousers into charity bag
21. Out of life throat capsules into bin
22 - 25. 4 activity books for children put into car and will be passed to GC tomorrow
So current Jettison in June total is 25/139
Not bad considering I haven't had much spare time (thought I would but family and friends had other ideas)

Welcome euronorris. Sounds like you have made a good start, even though it seems to have made your OH sickDo I remember you from PTN's thread last summer??
Jenny - museumworker has given a perfect response to your query - if I could thank her more than once I would
17. Box of plastic bottles & tins - council recycling collection
18. Box of paper & cardboard - council recycling collection
Now I'm back from work I have a couple of bin bags to go through, in which my teenagers have put stuff they don't want. It might be rubbish, it might be for CS, it might be for freegle. Ooooh the excitement.

Can I join in please?
I always feel really motivated when I read about other people's progress so hoping if I chart my own that might help me move my bum and declutter!!
Hoping to use you all as a guide so aiming for 100 in June.
So over the weekend;
1-17 items of clothing to CS
18-21 ornaments to CS
22 old frying pan in the bin
23-25 chipped dishes in the bin
26 broken kitchen timer in the bin
27-29 old t-shirts for rags
So my jettison for June total is 29/100
I'm hoping once I start I will have the motivation to keep it up
I have also taken advantage of the free listing weekend on ebay and have quite a few items listed, but will have to wait until next week to see if any sell. So I have started......:rotfl:
