Decluttering 2012, this year, definitely ...

I've finished upstairs! Under the bed was more organised than I thought, and I only had one bag of rubbish to get rid of - also sorted the bathroom and emptied the car! The little ones can now fit in the back seats in case it's pouring tomorrow when we go house-viewing.
Now to contemplate the disaster that is downstairs - while I've been sorting upstairs, the kids have been having a play-marathon involving their most spreadable toys, plus we discovered several hundred glowsticks in my bedroom yesterday and they're now scattered from one end of the house to the other! On the plus side, once they no longer glow, I can legitimately bin them, with no arguments from anyone:rotfl:0 -
Uh - oh. Things slowed a bit as I found photos.
SOme unbearably cute ones of the kids - that they'd rather I threw out :rotfl: One with rugby playing 12 year old DS dressed as a dalmation when he was about 4!
He's not happy! :rotfl:
ANyway, they have now gone from a wicker basket to a box file so it frees up the basket for the mountain of packaging.
Oh and I think i've crashed music magpie - unless it's one of you lot?I wanna be in the room where it happens0 -

WOW this thread is busy today. I have shredded the paperwork I sorted yesterday and put the remnants in the compost bin. The boys were each given a plastic bag and 15 minutes to tidy their rooms - it worked:j 3 bags full of rubbish/recycling now sorted. The wheelie bin will be emptied tomorrow and the recycling collected - thankgoodness. I'm back at work (school) and the boys are back to school tomorrow but DH is off so he is going to the tip/recycling centre to get rid of lots of cardboard and a very old Christmas Tree which has been under the eaves for years and definately passed it's best.
I also decluttered the fridge, I put everything I needed eating up on the work surface and the children had quite strange lunches:D but they loved it.
Think I am going to tackle the cupboard in the dining room next, it consists of 3 cupboards and 3 drawers and I would like to repaint it sometime soon (possibly halfterm)
Have fun everyone.

Finally motivated myself to get started on decluttering the house and as someone else has said, try and detach myself from 'things'.
So far I have -
Filled a bag for the charity shop yesterday of various suits and smart jackets from when I had a phase of dressing smart at work. Ashamed to say that in the pocket of one jacket was a building pass dated 2004.
Finished putting all my uni notes in the recycling bin (5 year's worth) and been through a lot of my son's school work and old exam papers and put in recycle bin (Son left school last year so a lot of paper).
Shredded two bags full of paperwork.
Sorted out my many carrier bags of wool into one large canvas bag which makes the sitting room look at bit tidier.
Stitched all the crochet squares together to make a blanket - just need to edge it now.
I should really have concentrated on just one task or room as things don't look much different but I am hoping that next weekend I can perhaps target one room.
My resolution though is for the month on January (it was going to be all year but thought I would start small) is to get rid on one thing (whether it is charity, Freegle, shred, bin) every day. If I don't do it every day then I have to make up for it at the weekend.Ditch 100 in January Challenge 100/100

Well, have filed all my paperwork apart from the credit card bill which is sitting out to remind me to pay it. My desk is almost clear, need to find a home for a few bits and pieces then it should be finished.
Went into town today to buy some stackable storage boxes for OH's office so he is now sorting through the shelves and wall cupboards at his own pace and is a lot less stressed
Trouble is I then bought a few bits for me in the sale (thermal bottoms and new underwear - get me!) so now need to do some more sorting out of clothes to make space!
Plus got a few more pressies so my present drawer (which is an old TV unit at the bottom of the stairs which was destined for freegle but never collected!) is now full. Poo!
Back to work tomorrow so any decluttering will be minimal until next weekend but will try to do a little bit each day.0 -

How freaky is that, they say it's a small world!
Freaky! :T0 -
I did this last year but I know my drawers are getting full again. I only have to concentrate on two areas, my bedroom and the drawers in my fiance's flat. I think I decluttered over 200 items last year, let's see if I can do this againSavings £8,865.22 £/15,000 Aiming to save enough for a house deposit.0
