I'm not doing well so far! OH is on nights this week so at the mo he's in the house and getting in my way. Went shopping together to Tesco this morning and it took much much longer than it would usually take because he was browsing books, cds, mobile phones, (sigh!) :(

Got someone coming round after 2pm to check the roof which I think has a leak (found a small wet patch in the eaves while putting boxes back in the eaves before xmas) and then picking up my son at 3pm, so dont think I'll get much de-cluttering done today. Not a good start... :o

If they haven't already gone, you really should sell them on ebay or Etsy or Folksy. Buttons sell terribly well:D

I did sell some on folksy last year (I am sugarmice on folksy), but the postage is a killer as they are so heavy! I sold some of the fancy ones in small quantities, but it took ages. I don't know why I buy them, OH teases me, but I do remind him they are cheaper than shoes or bags :rotfl::rotfl:

I won't be able to part with all of them, but if I can get it down to one curva box... then... Most of them came for charity shops/ebay or were given to me although I have been known to buy clothes just to get at the buttons :embarasse :rotfl::rotfl:

I found a cub group that will take some of the craft stuff though, which is great :o I shall have another hunt through the boxes tonight to out out some more bits for them.

And then there is the yarn... which wouldn't be so bad if I could actually knit :rotfl::rotfl: Oh, and the felting fibres I had good intentions for... :rotfl::rotfl:

I did list another bit of furniture on ebay last night and some motorcycle handlebar ratchet straps that are no use to me since I don't have the bike anymore. *thinks that might make more space for more buttons*

Just got a message from admin on freecycle for forgetting to put the location in the subject (it was in the text) :( and now I can't see my posts anymore :( I did ditch the shower quad last night and have someone coming to collect some yoga stuff soon too, but I think I'll ditch the rest via the village group list instead of the city one if my posts are going to go AWOL. I didn't mean to do anything wrong, but the note made me feel bad :( I stopped listing in one area when I had replies prior to my posts going live so I've never had great fun with freecycle tbh.

I am having issues listing the linguaphone course though - I can't set the postage at an apporopriate level :( It's a full course with CDs and weighs an absolute ton. Might try local ads for that one instead.

my Mum also says no washing on new years day but I did some anyway:eek::D good job she's too far away to see!

My MiL also says this - she says you can't wash between Christmas and New year in case you wash somebody out of the family and was horrified at the thought of it! I wish she'd told me that before I turned up with just hand luggage. I had to wash pants in the bathroom sink when she wasn't around :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

If its a freecycle group that you're having problems with - check if there's a freegle group in your area. theyre basically the same - except freecycle is now administered by staff from USA and has LOADS of rules that must be abided by!

For this reason, a lot of members left our local freecycle group and joined the newly created freegle group instead. There are still rules, but much more friendly.

I too got rudely told off on freecycle for forgetting a postcode/area in the title!! Which was stupid because it was a children's story disk and I said I'd post it to whoever wanted it! Luckily I was able to post again with the details included.

And to get replies before your posts had appeared on the site!! heck that's most suspicious - sounds like the mods were helping themselves to the good stuff!!

I had a brilliant day yesterday, clearing kids bedroom. I have two girls aged 8 and 9 who manage to collect all manner of bits and bobs that are "important". I have managed to persuade them to part with loads, saying that all the smaller things that are in good condition will be wrapped up in gift wrap and that we are going to do a lucky dip for thier friends when it's their birthday party.
They thought this was a great idea, also it will bulk out the party bags at no extra cost.

All the old clothes are going to Cash4clothes, or ebay. Bigger toys will be ebayed also.

All xmas decs are down and put away. Kitchen, lounge and bathroom cleaned.

I have bought a special cutter to cut my xmas cards into gift tags, can't wait for it to be delivered!

Going to tackle my wardrobe now!

My OH has a model railway, on his 2nd layout board but because we're hoping to move he's been accumulating scenery stuff, and his modelling stuff is everywhere. So yesterday we packed up 2 cardboard boxes with stuff he doesn't want/can't use until we do move and sealed them up & will stash away and then the other boxes are much better sorted & I have a box of things to try and sell, OH doesn't do ebay!

Over the next couple of nights we need to get rid of Christmas, clean the downstairs carpets, OH needs to put a clothes rail up in my wardrobe & so I can get all my clothes off the bed in the spare room and I need to work out what we dumped in the spare room before Christmas, and then have a general clean up. Then the house will be presentable again and it'll be time to start going through each room and lot of stuff gradually getting rid, as per my list.

Great to see everyone is keeping up the good work!

100 things in January sounds great idea Penelope Penguin - numbering what you're getting rid of & where it's gone has helped people in the past too.

  • I'm afraid to say that apart from cooking dinner from scratch I have got nothing done, except empty the bathroom bin. That's the extent of my decluttering today :o.

Do essays count? I got rid of 150 words which is rather good going. Now to get rid of the other 100, oops.
