The smile test is nothing scientific, and I use it with clothes more really. You simply look at the item and analyse how it makes you feel. Is it, yes, I like this, I want to wear it, use it, look at it, etc it makes me feel good and "smile". Or is it, I'm only wearing this, using it etc because it is here, I don't really like it etc.. Used with the shopping question it works well for me. If you really stop and concentrate on the item in question you should hear your inner voice and hear what it is saying.
However, I find this can be quite emotionally draining which is why I do small sections of my decluttered house at a time and don't subscribe to the numbers game.Their=belonging to them, There=over there

Well 51 videos out yesterday, that felt really good! Ebay stuff seems to be getting more interest. Yay.
Where does all this stuff keep coming from ARGGH. There is so much of it!0 -

Oh my goodness - I wonder if that was the same M&S staff member who made me cry yesterday! I was so upset that I returned a load more stuff today - now that's a good way to declutter!
Am cheering everyone on from the sidelines and am loving the 100 items idea! Personally I am just listing one item on eBay every day as we try to recycle everything rather than sending things to landfill and I would get swept up in a frenzy of "I must find 100 items now!"Overpay!0 -
I am not in the best of moods today, tired, grumpy and in pain. Still ive had another bid on another item i listed on Ebay. Another £30 hasnt put a smile on my face yet but i'm getting there.
I think ive definately got a case of the Poor Old Me's.This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Progress is slow still, after spending all morning at a hospital appointment with DS1. I was sat there mentally planning where I would start when I got back, and ended up sitting down with a cup of tea
So, I have got rid of the following:
46. 2 lids off plastic bathroom pots - chucked
47. Nearly empty shampoo bottles emptied into one, 4 bottles recycled.
48. Shower gels condensed into one - 3 bottles recycled
49. 2 tatty school shirts put in CS bag
50. OOD bits chucked out of fridge
51. 2 pairs of slippers in bin- threadbare
52. Cardboard from kids room recycled
Ditch 100 in January Challenge: 52/100
I was going to do some more decluttering, but DS2 has just decided he's going to start crawling today,so going to go and spend some time with him now. He's growing up too quick96 items decluttered so far in 20130 -

Hope you feel better soon Judi. I am feeling similar today, feel absolutely awful. I have my eBay stuff in boxes under my bed so it's out the way at least, even if my bed will eventually be 3 foot off the floor :rotfl: Up to 60 items on ebay, getting there slowly.0

Thanks mummys. Yes it would be draining for me too, but that sounds a great way to declutter seriously. I've got various things that I'm keeping because I don't want to let it go, but which probably wouldn't pass the smile or shop test!0
