Not too bad a day considering I've got a sinus infection coming on (well, I'm usually due one between Jan and Feb so it might as well be done and dusted!). Had a lovely breakfast out with a couple of friends this morning but still managed to get a bit done.
6 Barbies collected via facebook after school
7 items of clothing collected this evening via facebook
2 full to bursting charity bags full of recycling to outside bin after it was emptied this morning
2 more pin badges to OH's Nanna tonight
More Xmas toy packaging recycled (DD's obviously got too much as they're only just opening some stuff now!)
Old roasting tin recycled
Delivering 11 children's books tomorrow morning, and hopefully a large bag of plastic balls is being collected at some point tooExtra savings aim for 2020 £4,000 £0/£4,000

My new vaccum came today and i'm pleased with it. Spoke to hubby last night and he said 'dont get rid of the old one yet in case i can fix it, then you can have one for upstairs and one for downstairs'. I despair i really do. I'm trying to declutter/simplify my house and whats in it and he's trying to clutter it up. I can see his point i suppose but its not that you can hide a vaccuum cleaner is it? Do i really want it on display when i walk into a room and what was the point of buying a new one if my old one can be fixed?
If i keep it i will have Henry (banished to the shed cause its useless with dog hairs on carpet). My old one, and my new one.
That sounds so familiar to me - at one point we had 3 Dyson DC01s in various states of disrepair around the house because 'no one makes them as good as Dyson and I only like the original one'. I blew up the last oneand bought a really nice little Bosch which is half the weight and has ten times the suction. DH has the 3 cream crackered Dysons in the loft . You have my sympathies.
Do you know what you do with electrical items you want to get rid of? I got a new steam iron in the sales (yes, I know, very sad) and want to get rid of my old one.
Not got a lot of decluttering done today but had a really good tidy of the lounge, found yet more bits of broken toys to sling, found stuff which shouldn't be where it was so put away in its proper place and this room looks decent - got friends coming tomorrow and for once I don't feel ashamed of the lounge! Still shedloads to do but Rome wasn't built in a day was it.
For the people who aren't close to 100, please don't get disheartened. Every thing you manage to get rid of is one thing less cluttering up your house and it really isn't a race. I intend to do the challenge every month and can't wait until I have to scrabble around to find something to get rid of - at the moment it's alarmingly easy to sling stuff around cos there's so much of it here! Take it steady and be kind to yourselves.
Off to bed now, goodnight everyone!Flymarkeeteer: £168 and counting0 -
Had one of my purge weekends and sorted out my make up bag (23 year old lipstick anyone? First one I ever bought
I think I've still got the first eye shadow I bought when I left school in 1977, it was from Woolies and cost 25p, not used it for years but sentimental about it, lol!My new vaccum came today and i'm pleased with it. I have 2 vacuums, because I prefer using a cylinder and OH prefers using an upright, and when OH vacuums he doesn't do it as thoroughly as I do, so unfortunately I can't leave him to do it all the time.

Yesterday, (before I even had breakfast) I sorted the pile of paperwork which was in the top of my wardrobe waiting to be filed, and filed what needed filing and after breakfast I shredded/recycled the rest. Then I sorted through last week’s newspapers and put them in the recycling box, along with some junk mail and 2 catalogues and binned a dried marker pen. Didn’t get anything else done as I had to go to work, and after work today I just did some cleaning and tidying and 2 loads of washing, so nothing else gone out. Tomorrow, amongst other things, I’m going to sort through the 3 pots of pens and bin any that don’t work. Also tomorrow, DS should be coming to collect his TV, so hopefully that will be gone, but I’m not counting it until it’s actually left the house.Weight loss challenge 2/10lbs

I really ought to tackle the cupboard under the sink. Ive got this thing for cleaning products.
I could spend hours browsing the shelves in a supermarket for cleaning products.... I like to go down the baby aisle too (but dont tell anyone).

I've just packed up a huge bag of things for the charity shop so those will be out soon. I've also filled a bin bag with rubbish. Where does it all come from?!0

OH helped me clear out the conservatory yesterday - he got a bit carried away, and I struggled to keep track of what was going! There were lots of broken poles from old gazebos and playtents, and several spiders were made homeless:rotfl:.
I did manage to get rid of DSs ration packs that he brought back from cadet camp last summer - he hasn't even looked at them since they came in, so that's a large box emptied - estimate around 10 meals (drinks, main and pudding) plus several packs of sweets that look decidedly manky now. Also 4 storysacks going back to the children's centre I started making them for - they've been here untouched for about 18 months after I stopped going. Add that to OHs efforts, and I reckon we've managed around 40 just for yesterday! Good job too, cos we're being inspected on Thursday by our landlady's daughter - call me cynical, but requests for something to be done around the house have been ignored since November, but as soon as I suggest we're looking for somewhere else to live, we get an inspection!:D Off to change the sig....0 -
Well i started on the cupboard under the sink but i cant bear to part with anything.
Tell me something. Do i really need a stainless steel cleaner? I only bought it for my saucepans and never got round to using it.This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

Our local council offices has a recycling bank for small electricals - I got rid of a couple of irons, an electric blanket, that sort of thing. If you check the Council website it should let you know if they have one of these & where it's located.0 -
Whew, finally caught up with the reading of posts. Nor done much recently, but did manage to go through my brooch box. As you know, for me it's not about numbers but the process. Using the smile test and the "would I buy this if I saw it in the shops" question I have managed to halve the contents. Some of the brooches have been passed down to me from older relatives so I'm going to get them checked out for value. Found some more childish pin badges so I have put them on a bag to brighten it up.Their=belonging to them, There=over there

Well done on your brooch sorting, mummys.
Can you explain the smile test please?
That and the shop test seem to have pass me by but are just what I need for decluttering some of my jewellery a bit more seriously than I did last week!0
