Decluttering 2012, this year, definitely ...

Where does all this stuff keep coming from ARGGH. There is so much of it!
I agree with both points!
I've made about £250 after all charges and postage etc in the last month on eBay. I've never had so many sales. And because things are generally selling well, I'm listing more. I'm now on 1st name terms with one of the ladies at my local post office!!!
Another benefit to eBay selling is that the muscles on my arms are getting quite strong from carting all the items up the town!! :rotfl:
I still don't think I'm being ruthless enough, but at least I'm organising. The top of my wardrobe now has a proper purpose, as does the cupboard by the stairs and my sideboard. i actually know where to find the sellotape now, without having to hunt for 1/2 hour first!
Ditch 100 in Jan - 68/100
So here's my update from today:
65. 3 unwanted Next items – collected by courier
66. Old phone books – recycling
67. Now store all games together and use top of wardrobe for gift box and spare bedding only - rearranging and chucking
68. Fabric boots (destroyed by cat vomit) - chucked (sadly)0 -
I was full of good intentions for this morning but woke up at four feeling decidedly 'under the weather'. Couldn't sleep so got up at 5:30 and produced a couple of documents I need for a meeting. Does that count as decluttering my to do list? No, thought not, but it is a good feeling!!!
Hubby offered to take me out to lunch today - a rare treat. Couldn't say no, now could I? So apart from a handful of small 'long term lurkers at the back of drawers' not much action in our house.
I'm feeling really tired now so I think I shall have a quiet evening as we have the babe tomorrow morning. I need to make progress with a couple of knitting projects and that will be a constructive use of my time.
This is not a good week to achieve much as we have quite a heavy baby minding commitment but roll on the weekend and then next week is a lighter week. I need to get some curtains lined to go back up at the spare room window when hubby has finished the decorating in there. That will clear a bit more space but I suppose again it's not getting anything out of the house.
Must Try Harder!!!!!!!0 -
Well, Susan, it IS decluttering your mind. And if it involved using up/getting rid of notes etc then I'd say yes! I'm counting sorting my wardrobe and cupboard as a declutter on the basis I rearranged things and moved them around.0

Don't be hard on yourself. Small steps, remember! And we do need to rest as well!0 -
Don't worry to much, any item out is progress! That's why I'm not counting mine as every item out is progress and I'm in the decluttering frame of mind that I need to be in. I just want to be back to basics as have so much extra stuff that's built up over the years.0

I wish you better luck than me then! I've been in my current house for 23 months and already need to declutter having decluttered when I was packing. Be firm with yourself when you've moved and don't allow the clutter to return! :rotfl::A0 -
I really ought to tackle the cupboard under the sink. Ive got this thing for cleaning products.
I could spend hours browsing the shelves in a supermarket for cleaning products.... I like to go down the baby aisle too (but dont tell anyone).
I'm exactly the same, especially if they're on offer, but I am now trying hard to use up my stash of cleaning products before buying any more, it's absolute hell for me to walk around HB or Wilko without buying any cleaning products!

Busy day today. While waiting for DS to pick up his TV I 'prepared the house for visitors' as his future FIL (who I'd not met before) was coming with him. This entailed hiding things in drawers, cupboards and the spare room, and hoovering and cleaning every room he was likely to see, which was all but the spare room. DS has now finally taken the TV (yay!!) and as a bonus he also took the stand for it, which has been in our bedroom for months, and meant every time I needed to get anything out of my drawers, or the 'cupboard of doom', I had to move it. It's such a novelty to have the space, and not have to move the stand any more, that I keep having a silly little giggle to myself every time I go in our bedroom, lol! DS also took the instruction booklet and 2 remote controls for the TV, and one of his models (a boat and shark from Jaws) so that's a bit less in the spare room.
I went through the 3 pen pots mentioned yesterday, and binned only 2 which weren't working, but I also put 10 in CS bag along with 2 pencils, 2 tea towels, 3 oven gloves (decided I didn't really need 6) and 2 tape measures, as I don't need the 3 that I had.
Looking around my house earlier, it looked so clean and tidy that I thought I'd soon feel a bit of a fraud posting on this thread, but then I went in the spare room and then thought about the stuff in drawers, cupboards and the sheds and thought 'nah, I think I'm going to be ok for a while yet', lol!
Having counted up what I got rid of today, I've made it to my 100 items, :j!Weight loss challenge 2/10lbs

Nice to see your successes on Ebay folks and nice to know i'm not alone with an addiction to cleaning products. Its not that i particularly like cleaning but i am always on the lookout for something better than what i'm using at the moment.Hope you feel better soon Judi. I am feeling similar today, feel absolutely awful.
I hope we are both feeling better soon. I hate feeling like this, its not very often i feel like this either.
Tomorrow i am going to make plans as how i want to turn the spare room into an office. The decorating is almost complete and i dont have the money just yet but i need to think about what sort of desk i want, floor covering and whether to go for vertical blinds for the window or a roller blind. I dont think the curtains will look right. All positive stuff but its beyond me at the moment. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Two more boxes of stock priced up and gone. Ten items sold on Ebay, and posted. One bag of clothes etc. in the Air Ambulance charity bag collected today.
Then DH went to an auction and brought in ten boxes of stock. Hey ho, at least there is something going out to offset it.You're only young once, but you can be immature forever0 -
Yet again not much done here due to this rotten sinus infection, but I have managed a few things
11 Books sold via facebook delivered this morning
Large bag of kids plastic balls sold via facebook collected this afternoon
7 items of children's clothing sold via facebook delivered this afternoon
Large envelope posted
Toothpaste used up and binned, box for new tube recycled
The past few nights I've been using up things from the food cupboards and freezer, so that's made a bit of space and also stopped me binning odds and sods
OH sold several blu-rays on ebay and via a forum so they'll be out in the morning (and money in!)
Can't think of anything else for now. DD2 and I are having our hair cut in the morning then we're going to the newish Aldi that's opened near us to try out the fruit and veg and whatever else takes our fancy - it's only allowed in the trolley if it's consumable!!Extra savings aim for 2020 £4,000 £0/£4,000
