Decluttering 2012, this year, definitely ...

  • Hi all, I have been a bit lax on the decluttering front for the past 10 days or so. Am slowly getting back into the swing of things, have just taken 2 bags of clothes to the clothing bank. I intend to do little and often instead of attempting a whole weekend spurt. This may change of course.
I am giving my presentation on decluttering mind, body and space tomorrow. Any useful links that I could build into a resource handout would be very useful.

    Have a great day all

I managed to write off the whole of Saturday due to a hangover :o Wasn't planning on getting drunk as now I'm almost 32 with 2 kids I just can't cope with feeling ill, but some of my friends and I had a girly night in on Friday with lots of rose wine and that was that. Very annoyed with myself lol. To make matters worse I woke up on Sunday with a cold :(

    Have managed the following though:
Empty packaging from kids stuff to recycling
Sorted through make-up bag and put contents into new bag, binned very tatty old one
Ebay carboot lot was collected on saturday, so lots of space gained in the conservatory where it's been since it was listed
6 small toys collected on Saturday via facebook
Half the ironing pile done, yay!!
3 pin badges to OH's Nanna (she has a corkboard where she displays them - she has loads!)
    Used up deodrant spray recycled

Can't think of anything else for now, but no doubt will be back later!

    1. Deep fat fryer (gone to tip)
    2. Child's sit on toy(rubbish bin)
    3. Book and bookbag(recycling)
    4. Child's easel ( recycling)
Extra payment every week challenge £15 so far
Pay one debt in 2012 £35/£294
  • Good to see people still going strong - even if they are a little worse for wear for different reasons.
Darwin: I think your point about doing little bits is a good one.

I've 'decluttered' the house of a guinea pig today :(. Got up this morning to find one of the pigs has had a seizure and lying on her side :(. Am in a state of shock because she'd seemed so well. (Obviously not really counting her in my decluttering totals as Lettis was anything but clutter and is a real loss to the little gp herd and to me.)

Keep at it when you can everyone but don't feel a failure when life gets in the way! There's more to life than just decluttering!! ;) (I say this because I nearly turned down a friend coming over recently because I wanted to declutter. Realised in time that decluttering can wait in favour of a social life :rotfl:!)

catslovelycats sorry to hear of the demise of your guinea pig. I cry buckets when my pets die and they will have to carry me away in a straight jacket i swear when my beloved doggies go to doggy heaven. Ive decided that there will be no more pets in my house, i am finding it hard to look after myself at times let alone animals.

Out: a Vaccum cleaner. Damn thing blew up on me this morning. Ive now got to wait for the new one to be delivered till i can vaccum downstairs. Managed upstairs with my old one but then it just packed in. Tried resetting it but it wouldnt have it. Still, its been a good one but has seen better days and my new one has a super duper 2200 Watt motor whereas my old one was only 1900. I'll be sucking up the dust under the floor boards with this new one!

For those wondering how to 'clean' old laptops, you have 2 options.

    1) If you have your original install disks put those in and reinstall windows. As you do that it will give you the option to format your hard drive/partion. Thats the safest and easiest way to wipe the drive. Also means whoever takes on your laptop/PC gets a clean windows install.

    2) Remove the harddrive, take a hammer to it and sell or give away the laptop/PC without the harddrive in. Harddrive will come out with just a few screws. If its a PC just be sure not to touch the motherboard itself.

That sounds a good way to do it, thanks. I was looking into ccleaner and dban but if I can do it without downloading random software, all the better :T

Decluttered all the old jam jars from under the kitchen sink into recycling at work today - our bin men don't take glass so it mounts up.

catslovelycats, sorry to hear about the guinea pig :(

  • Thanks for sympathy, rosy and judy. Don't feel too sad at the mo cos am so shocked.
However, I do need to clean out & away the cage she was sharing with Bubbles - in cold weather they all have free run of the shed in the day and in 3 pairs have indoor cage at night. I've got to decided which pair to put Bubbles with now as she may not like being on her own. I think I'll be more upset tonight when reality kicks in. Went and checked on them earlier. Lettis was the queen pig (and by far the friendliest) so it'll be interesting to see who becomes top pig now. Poor Bubs was sitting in one of their dens all quiet while the others were scattering around and making loads of noise. Urgh.

Catslovelycats - sorry to hear about Lettis, big hugs.

I'm full of a cold and feel like carp; had some paracetamol but can't take any more til 2 so need to hang in there. DH went to America today - he left here at 5am and is gone until Tuesday next week so I'm home alone with the kids . I must remember not to show the fear lol!!!!

Done some more decluttering - just posted 3 eb*y items and sold a set of ladies hand weights. Waiting for payment for another item; once that comes in and item gone I'll count it but not before!

Got to go and declutter all the carp in the kitchen now; hold my feet ... I'm going in!

Well I ended up only managing to get 15 items listed on e*ay over the weekend. DH asked if I had any watchers on the lights which have been in the lounge for 2 weeks. Errr no because they didn't get listed darling :o you bought me wine on Saturday night which I ended up drinking all of and then had a monster hangover and a long lie in on Sunday and then we had to go out :o:).
Got oour holiday tickets booked yesterday so that's them sorted and we just need to pay for them. I've transferred the money over to my usual account so I will do that some time this week.
Today I have decluttered a hooded top I wear for work and a long sleeved top which were both victims of a tinted lip thing going through the washing machine and the tumble drier . A pair of jeans also got got but I need to keep them for when we go out for walks and things because I only have 1 pair which fits nicely now. Incidentally, I will have to wash and dry them tonight to wear tomorrow.
3 loads of washing done and folded awaiting inspiration to be put away.
