Someone wrote recently about trying to get OH to declutter.
I really don't know what to do about DH. He has the top of the wardrobe, both sides, full of old t shirts to wear for work. He must have 50 or more. Then in his drawers and cupboards he has his newer ones which he has now started to wear, and ruin, for work as a builder. We have a cabinet with gifts from Holland, Spain etc when he was a teenager etc. he has 200 or more music cassettes he won't throw and we no longer have a cassette player. Help!! I am being swamped.business mortgage £0))''(+ Barclay's business kitchen loan £0=Total paid off was £96105 PPI claimed and received £13527

I have never used them but heard them mentioned and they showed up when I googled "book equivalent of music magpie" :money: I'm willing to give them a go as the books would only be gathering dust here.0 -
I haven't done any decluttering so far this weekend but I'm aiming to start another charity shop bag before I go to bed. 9 days to go to get to 100!0

Also a question - what to do with dead laptops that are clutter but may have private info on so I can't really just take them to the recycling centre?
That question might be answered more in depth on the techie board.

Ditch 100 in January challenge 63/100
Don't really feel that I have done much even though I managed to get DH & DS out of the house all day. But it was enjoyable as I had bought some plastic drawers to go in the airing cupboard for all my wool and needles so that is 3 less bags in the sitting room, 1 less from the garage and 2 less from my bedroom.
Also sorted under the table in the sitting room and found various stuff dated from the 1990's  so there is now only a couple of piles of books/magazines.
53 – 54 2 x Kart licence application packs (bin)
55 – various letters, cc statements, etc from 2008 (shredded)
56 – some course notes and printouts (continuous feed paper!!) from a Wordstar course that I did in 1991
57 – set of broken computer speakers (bin)
58 – 2 x computer games (charity shop)
59 – pile of staff newsletters/magazines from the 1990’s (recycle bin)
60 – Old toy packaging
61 – 2 random bits of clothing (charity shop)
62 – tidied my sewing box and got rid of all the useless stuff. Now freed up half my box.
63 – sorted knitting/crochet implements and reused a new makeup/washbag to store the small items. (thank you to a previous poster)Ditch 100 in January Challenge 100/100

Thanks Judi, I'll look into that.
42 empty bird feeding net binned
43 hoovered whole house now I can see what I'm hoovering! Hoover pipe brokethank goodness for Duck tape! That'll be the next thing I need to get rid of won't it.
44 cheque decluttered to bank
I have to say this thread has made me think really hard about how I live and on the whole I'mwith it, but the impetus to tidy up and be more organised has been great, so even if I don't reach 100 I'll still feel I'll achieved a lot, so thanks all

Hello everyone!
Well, i did hit the target last weekend but still decluttering the house. I have totally lost count on things that have decluttered after 150.
I have completed the family book shelves, approximately 40 books recycled today as they were damaged beyond repair. The rest will be given to CS/zapper/siblings kids that are no longer needed.
I have been collecting both niece and nephews' toys that are all over the house all bagged up to go... my mum is not happy as i want them out(the toys not the kids:rotfl:). How much toys do kids actually need to have nowadays?...hmmm
I have thrown or recycled a few things on behalf of mum and younger sister today. I believe by them noticing what i have accomplished in the last two weeks, they are starting to declutter some of theirs too.
I have finally found a CS that are still accepting, so i gave them all the things that i was planning to car boot in spring and the items that i have found whilst starting this challenge.
Wishing you all good luck...

Just wanted to say hello and you're all doing so well! I never thought I had that much clutter til I moved house last year and nearly did my back in with all the boxes and bags I had to carry in and out. Most of it was books I never read and clothes I never wore.
It was also costing me money, since my paperwork was in such a mess that I sometimes ended up paying for new tickets/bank statements/certificates as I couldn't find the originals in the choas.
At Christmas I think I reached some kind of turning point. I stumbled across a blog about minimalism and started reading more and more of them... Since then I've got rid of about half of my stuff and am planning to get rid of a lot more. I haven't told anyone about it yet execpt my OH, but already I'm feeling so much happier and less anxious. I totally agree with a poster above who said that once you get into decluttering you get addicted and end up decluttering your laptop files, direct debits etc.
One tip is to declutter your email by unsubscribing from all the anoying promotional emails and newsletters that we all seem to get nowadays. It's so nice to log in in the morning and not have loads of rubbish to scroll through!
I've still got loads to sort out - especially paperwork - so might join you all!0 -
Ditch 100 in January 79/100
72. One book posted to Amazon trade-in
73. One pair of old glasses dropped into optician for charity
74. More work files relocated to work
75. Sink, worktop and last of the cupboards taken to the dump - kitchen is completely empty now :j:j
76. Two more old mugs taken to work
77. One bag of useless paperwork shredded - recycling bin
edited to add:
78. Old wire hanging basket - recycling centre
79. Wood from garden - recycling centre
Vey excited (sadly so) because the bookcases I bought on ebay came today (very nice seller dropped them round to usand because of that I can now unpack eight of the remaining boxes and move in the lounge again!
OH is seeing the decluttering light now he sees that we have swapped 16 items of what to us was useless for two bookcases, a karate gi for me and a racing bike for him (all bought on ebay). #
I listed a bike cover on the local daily site - but no takers (which suprised me) I replied to a wanted ad for a keyboard, but she's mailed me back wanting me to call her mobile and asked me not to email. I *really* hate using the phone (I don't use a mobile either) so I'm not sure how to respond to that; I always use email rather than phone
and I might have lost the magic plate... might have... but I am not counting it as I am trying to make it look like a super-natural occurance that I had nothing to do with:staradmin:starmod: beware of geeks bearing .gifs...:starmod::staradmin:starmod: Whoever said "nothing is impossible" obviously never tried to nail jelly to a tree :starmod:0
