11 bottles of lotions and potions to the car boot box - some of it is Virgin Vie which I thought might sell on ebay but have checked and it doesn't seem to so off to the car boot it is.

    I didn't want to post until I'd read everything...it's taken 4 days!

I've been slowly decluttering since 2010. My biggest hurdle was The Shed. In there was everything from the past that got shoved in there when we moved (in 2006!) and I just knew that if I was to get anywhere with decluttering that had to be done first. Over 20 bin bags later and it was just the paperwork that needed to be sorted!

When I'd shredded some very painful paperwork reminders of very bad times things changed. I felt a lot more positive about myself and stopped biting my nails (after 33 years of being a nibbler!) and then I started losing weight. Not because I was on a diet, just because I was happier with myself and stopped eating when I wasn't hungry. I've lost about 3 st :)

Then the back garden got sorted and I started growing veg. Little by little, the inside of the house got decluttered (faster when my OH was in the mood to get rid of stuff too!) I found the more I got rid of, the happier I became.

So those of you who are associating clutter with excess weight and feeling down - have hope! I'm still decluttering, but it's on a smaller scale now. It's quite addictive! :rotfl:

    Agree with that!

I've never been a tidy person - clean yes, tidy no. :o However, since I've started decluttering and tidying in the process I've found that I want to put the shoes away instead of leaving them at the bottom of the stairs (which I have to walk up to get changed so why they don't come with me on my feet is beyond me!). I don't know how long it will last. I think its because I have a set goal to try to sell this house this year and no one will buy it if its a pigsty! :D

    So on my total:
22 - Trilby bought for a fancy dress costume for OH (CS bag)
    23 - 24 Two handbags (CS bag)
25 - Big wooly hat - stretched beyond reason so binned :(
26 - Black top (though this has been binned ages ago but its been in the conservatory "drying" - binned as not fit for CS bag)
27 - Left over wedding stationery - binned as it was personalised
    28 - 31 - Belts from my skater phase at age 16 - 21 (CS Bag)
32 - Fancy dress costume bought without reading it came in size XL (CS Bag)

I have ventured into the conservatory, no spiders attacked me which is a bonus, although, there are some dead ones in there so might go back in with the vac in a minute!

OH is on the computer so he's out of my hair for now. I can just get on with it. Best go get him a drink so he doesn't think I've forgotten about him. :rotfl:

Please may I join this thread? I know it is rather late but I have started already by not bringing in any more clutter. I've also started on the wardrobe from hell (one of them anyway) and I will try and do a little a day and take everything to charity shop or textile tip next weekend.

I have recently been through the abrupt disintigration of a very long term relationship and I have decided that there is nothing keeping me where I am living, it is too full of bad memories now. So I have been looking on Zoopla to see where might be affordable and I am now feeling much more positive and need to declutter right through the house, garage, etc. as I don't want to take it with me. I think this is going to be a cathartic experience but as the house is likely to take at least a year to sell I can afford to do it in stages. Once I know where I am going I will be able to make a final ruthless purge of things I won't be using.

Cs and CBS have been my hobby for years now, as I could afford anything on sale there unlike department stores, etc. Once I get the clutter down I will aim only to replace any existing items. I have a completely full chest freezer which was more than enough for the two of us, but now it is just me I will be struggling to eat it all. It's hard though to be frugal and yet divest myself of all these potential 'might come in useful' items.

    Hello
I've just found this thread and, like you, I've just read all the way through.

What an inspiring post! I find that once the bug gets you, you go on to declutter every area of your life.....your diet, computer files, direct debits on the current account.........and so on.

I feel that I've got a mountain to climb at the moment. For the past five and a half years I've been very limited as to what I can do by my back and so things have been done very superficially. After a succession of different treatments, two lots of surgery and an exercise programme, the pain is more manageable and I feel more able to take back control. Still get good days and not-so-good days, of course! Every cupboard, nook and cranny needs a good sort and scrub! I've been working away since Christmas but I haven't kept a tally of how much has gone out of the house.

I shall plod on until the end of the month but then I shall make a target to get rid of 100 items in February. If you run another challenge on here, I'd like to join in, but if not then I shall just do my own thing and come on here for inspiration - and chip in as and when if I may.

    Sue
