Decluttering 2012, this year, definitely ...

I have a drum I need to get rid of - it's wooden, slatted so makes lots of different sounds and has bamboo and rubber beaters. Do you think a primary school music department would take it? I am really not sure what to do with it - it's been wrapped in plastic ever since it arrived (crazy arrives in my house by DHL as well *sigh*). I really want shot of it, OH is mumbling about the fact it was a gift - but we've had it three years seriously have no use for it; so I'd love it to go somewhere where someone could use it.
Hi have you thought about your local toy library? I used to work in one and we loved donations like that. Your local library should be able to tell you if you have one. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
not only have i spent the time i should be de-cluttering reading on here about others that are doing it. i made the fatak mistake at looking on matalan website just out of interest to see if any of the £1 deals i had heard about had dripped into their web oage and low and behold yes thy did. so i bought 3rd pair f wellies this week for my daughter not even sure if they will fit her. also my 8th new bathing robe the nice snuggly ones, 2 more pyjama and the rest was reduced to a £1 like flip flops that i really needed

Other items forced to leave my houses include:
A pyrex pie dish, a plate rack, extra mugs, pair of curtains, piggybank that had a perished rubber seal, magazines, tealight holders and last year's Christmas cards.
I will complete the challenge." The greatest wealth is to live content with little."

Ditch 100 in January 71/100
67. More haribo taken in to feed the undergraduates
68. posted some buttons sold on ebay(only 70, so a tiny tiny drop in the button ocean, but if I could sell the others for the same cost, I reckon I could pay the mortgage off in buttons
) Then I could buy more buttons... :rotfl::rotfl:
69. German linguaphone course posted - needed to send by courier as it weighs about the same as a cast iron penguin.
70. Book of german verb tables - put in with the language course
71. Two german textbooks - put in with the language course. These weren't in the listing, so I hope the guy doesn't mind recieving them as an extra - I just thought they would be useful; and they aren't much use to me anymore; mainly because all of the exercises start with "how to find your suitcase at Frankfurt airport" which isn't a realistic converstation topic for me whenever we go to Germany - "oh, I didn't realise they made cookies out of dyson fluff" would be closer.
Some bits to list on ebay this weekend, but I have a collections paper to finish marking, a presentation to write (about mushrooms, oh joy my life) and I need to finish my tax return, so I'm not sure how I'm going to fit anything in this weekend other than work.
Huge bag of bric-a-brac sorted out to ditch but I don't know how. Might try the daily free ads, having left the freecycle group after last time. Fabric scraps are definately on my to-do list today. Parents coming tomorrow - they raise a lot for charity, so are always after raffle prizes - so I have a bag of stuff sorted out to give to them; mainly toiletries. I feel bad giving away christmas presents, but they are so not me and if they can do some good then I'd feel better.
Went to IKEA yesterday for the kitchen quote; wasn't as bad I was expecting (even with the worktops OH wanted). It's a much nicer place on a friday afternoon when it is empty rather than the creche on the outskirts of hell it becomes at the weekend. They are going to amend the quote when the measuring guy has been on wednesday so we can still take advantage of the appliance offer (we have no appliances other than a washing machine and a borrowed fridge atm so getting two appliances thrown in was a godsend) They will also give us a lot back in IKEA giftcards - which is brilliant as we need units for the upstairs bedroom and some flooring - failing that I can blow the whole lot on fabric and ice cube traysI know how to live!:rotfl::rotfl:
Going to collect new fish today now the tank has finished equilibrating - I would like some that eat dust, but I'm not sure if that is realistic
365days - that's brilliant news!
have a good and clutter free day allcel x
Great news on the kitchen - I like the stuff in IKEA - are they fitting the kitchen or is it a DIY job?Decluttering Achieved - 2023 - 10,364 Decluttering - 2024 - 8,365 August - 0/45

Found another bag full of clothes for the charity shop, which are now in the car boot ready to go. Also 10 things listed on ebay, including a load of tat and some DVD box sets.
Chucked out a large collection of magazine clippings that I've had for years. In the age of the internet they've now all been scanned and can easily be found online.
Am now going to declutter some cadburys fingers - well deserved!0 -
I need major help to declutter this house. We have so much we saved 'just in case'. I sorted out 3 kitchen cupboards at the beginning of the month, might have joined this thread, then forgot!
Time to get restarted.
Can I join 100 in January> I bet I could find 100 items before the end of the month.business mortgage £0))''(+ Barclay's business kitchen loan £0=Total paid off was £96105 PPI claimed and received £13527

Thanks for all the well done's re money. Stirred up a few emotions if I'm honest but will work through them I'm sure.
I've realised my house is like my mind. Full of clutter and crap and reminders of the past. Disorganised and frankly irritating!!
With that thought in mind I have started to become slowly a little more ruthless with why I need to get rid of this stuff.
So today....
42. About 3 inches of paper burnt (All confidential stuff and I do like a burn every now and then!)
43. 2 carrier bags full of wool to local cat's charity. They are asking for it to knit blankets for local cats home. Why do I have 2 bags of wool?? Because I have had many 'I know, I will make all my friends beautiful scarves moments' when I can't even purl!!
44. Towel that the dog had chewed a hole out of....cat's charity for blanket
45. 4 books to above...to sell....don't think cats can read.
46. 2x bags of cans to recycling (Must stop drinking soooooo much diet coke)
47. Carrier of plastic and card
48. 5 rolls of wrapping paper that have lived on top of my kitchen cupboards for ..... 8 years maybe? Bit greasy, dusty, and generally manky. Recycled
49. Toy of the adult variety....found on top of my kitchen cupboards...don't ask!! - bin
50. Large cardboard box that wool was stored in - recycling
51. Bag of paper/junk mail to recycling. Included in this is the invoice for plane tickets I bought when I went to Oz 14 years ago. Couldn't face throwing the train tickets from said adventure away but the invoices went as did some other papers of a similar...age old...memory inducing...but ultimately pointless nature.
Phew think that will do for now.
Also parcelled up christmas presents for the American relatives but post office was shut, so I will count them when they leave the car.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -

Thanks for mentioning the kitchen! There's a drawer in our kitchen that's full of utter rubbish, that I've been meaning to clear out but keep forgetting.0
