Low carb chili - I like to scoop out courgettes and put the middle bit in the chili and then grill the skins to make lil boats for the chili!
Welcome back jvr!
The courgette boats for chilli sounds great. Unfortunately OH won't eat courgette unless I disguise it in a stir fry or a bolognaise. I'm serious, it's like feeding a toddler at times. :rotfl:0 -
Update for Monday...
1) To have at least 15 NCDs - Yes so now on 4 NCDs.
2) To meal plan at the end of the week for the following week - All done for this week.
3) Be in bed by 10.00pm and light out by 10.30pm Sunday to Thursday - Bed at 9.15pm and light out at 11.00pm again. OH and I started playing a puzzle game on his mobile and of course we just had to finish it.
4) At least 40 minutes walking during the day 6 days a week - 20 minutes done (2 x 10 minutes).
5) Deep clean the kitchen - Thanks for all the supportive comments on this target but it's going to have to be changed. The upstairs windows are being replaced next week so my target now is to deep clean the bedrooms as we are having the disruption upstairs. The kitchen will have to move to November's list.0 -
It's not even just the lack of willpower. It's just such a part of me that I don't even notice I'm doing it until it's too late. I can remember a little girl at primary school, Christine she was called, showing me how to bite them when I was about 5. She was really pretty and popular and I wanted to be like her. Bet she doesn't still bite hers!
Ah. The same reason I took up smoking. It took me 30 years to kick that habit. Every time you have a stab at stopping it helps, so never give up giving up.Apologies to anyone who has developed a migraine due to my quote attempts above. I'm experimenting with Chrome rather than IE, which has started freezing, and it seems a little tricksy. Anyway, back to yesterday:
See, you're brilliant at techie stuff. I might ask if you can sort my Seriously Dead ipod out if I can't make it go again.
Sleep. 5 hours and 35 minutes for a Sleep Score of 78, 'fair'. That sounds quite reasonable until I explain that the 5 hrs 35 mins were between 3.32 and 9.44 am! I went to bed at 11pm and laid there while Mr H snored to me, then eventually I got up and watched two hours of Corrie on catch-up. I have got to sort this!! I am actually considering (after saying I couldn't do it....) banning myself from my laptop and phone in the evenings, like Honey.
Sleep's a tricky one. It may have been booze initially, but now it's obviously not. OH's sleep became disturbed after his mother died, and it was shockingly bad for 20 years. I stopped drinking, that slowed his drinking down and miraculously he can now sleep through the night again. It was probably only one extra glass of wine that caused the problem initially, but that became a habit which then impacted on him in unexpected ways.
Do you drink a lot of tea? That's got caffeine in it too, apparently, as does hot chocolate, apparently.
When I was working on getting enough sleep I brought 'lights out' forward by half an hour every three days until I discovered that 11.30 pm is the latest I can manage. I still find it difficult to make myself switch off the wretched light by then but at least I know if I do I feel human the following day.
The other thing I need, sadly, is my earpiece and either the ipod or the radio through the night. I happen to like talk radio, but most people who use this technique prefer music. It distracts me, filters out the snoring (mostly, not after OH has had three or more pints though) and the more I'm enjoying listening the faster I go to sleep. The Moth Hour doesn't work because the intervening music is too loud, Ted Talks and Guardian Long Reads are my absolute favourites, because I can't find enough fiction to keep me going.
Lack of sleep was your enemy the last time we were doing this, so I know it's a struggle of long-standing for you. I wish I could magic the problem away, having managed to do so for myself when I gave up drinking. Although, having said that, the first few weeks off the booze weren't all plain sailing. It was only after my sleep settled down that I realised how disrupted it had become over the years.
I hope switching off the phone and laptop works; it might take two or three nights of ruthlessly denying yourself electronics and forcing yourself to read instead, but it's worth three evenings of your life to find out, isn't it?
Weight No idea, forgot to weigh myself again, but as this has definitely NOT been a NCD I'm not expecting great things:D
Giant chocolate buttons, eh? Was each one the size of a frisbee?
Ten NCD After a bad night's sleep I do find sugary and fatty foods are comforting. So for medicinal purposes I have eaten a boost bar, two chocolate biscuits and I am currently eyeing up the freezer because I know there are Magnums in there.
In our house these are known as Recovery Breakfasts and in our drinking days we used to regularly treat ourselves to one at the nearest Wetherspoons, which is about 20 yards away as the crow flies; 50 yards if the crow's walking and OH had a few pints, snored and now needs one. How are the stocks of Magnums doing? (I had to stop buying them. They used to call me from the freezer.)
Nails No change here, still totally unglam. See above.
Good luck with the phone and laptop thing.Better is good enough.0 -
Hello jvr, I like the sound of your courgette chilli. So do I!
Garden – it didn't rain today :T so I scrubbed the path to remove all the green slimy stuff and you can now walk down the path without fear of losing your footing. We discovered completely by accident a few years ago that boiling water poured over the green gunge areas kills it without scrubbing. It takes about three days for the algae to die and disappear. Wretched stuff comes back, but I think we only do it about three times a year now.

Food – try new recipe each week. - I will aim for tomorrow. Love the Good Intentions that don't have to be done every day.

Make time for me –make time to read or complete a craft project etc. No, perhaps I should try your suggestion Honey and schedule it. It does work, provided you don't schedule too much for yourself. I make myself do 15 minutes and then if it isn't finished I can allow myself to stop, although I generally carry on until it's finished. And a maximum of three tasks a day, with a proper break between, doing things I want to do. Any more than that and it's just a slog. Last week was a bit different because I had to get through it all, but that's not going to be allowed to happen again.

Autumn clean - I will aim to do 2 or 3 rooms during October. Finished the bathroom when i came inside :T Yay! Well done!

Shame, really, about the kitchen, but it can't be helped.Better is good enough.0 -
- Deal with the tech problems; the ipods, tablet, podcasts and the printer. I've set this Friday aside completely because I can't bear the frustration any more. Aim to crack one completely a week. I want to be able to use the tablet to multiquote on MSE, use colour, and download BBC podcasts to the newer ipod and unsubscribe the ones I don't like, and get the printer to work again on the main computer. Decide if the older, smaller, prettier ipod can be resussitated, or whether it really is seriously dead. Friday. All day. :shudder: Not something I'm looking forward to, either.
- 15 minutes Flying a day, to keep on top of the crap as September turned out to be quite successful on the Flying front eventually. I spot-cleaned bits of the carpet inside the front door and the dining room, but goodness it's a boring job, so I stopped after 15 minutes. Still, that bit looks better. And I dusted the top of the glasses shelves, and washed all the [STRIKE]crud[/STRIKE] stuff on top, and then did the high dusting in the bedroom that I couldn't reach last week. That's enough Flying for one day.
- Plan Serious Flying a week at a time using the current list of outstanding jobs. Schedule some of the biggies across a week at a time, one job a day. More jobs scheduled for today; let's see if it works because my heart's not in it today.
- Read one of the outstanding newspapers a day. Not yet. I've got rather a big pile of them, so the only way to do that is:
- No computer after 7.15 pm. Yes! I didn't even open a newspaper though.
- Reach 63.5 kgs by 31 October. Doesn't feel like this is happening at the moment.
- Finish sorting the muddled bay in the attic. Not yet been to Morries.
- Sow onion sets, broad beans and spinach in pots by the end of the month. Must schedule going through the seeds because this won't happen otherwise.

Thankfully my OH works in IT so he deals with anything techy so I don't have to. Although, I think I've picked up a fair amount from him along the way. - 15 minutes Flying a day, to keep on top of the crap as September turned out to be quite successful on the Flying front eventually. At least the carpet spot cleaning is not a regular job so it won't need repeating in a few days, not like the dusting which seems to be a constant task in our house. It's like painting the Forth Bridge, no sooner have I finished than I have to start again. - Plan Serious Flying a week at a time using the current list of outstanding jobs. Perhaps your heart doesn't have to be in it. Perhaps the pleasure comes later from the satisfaction of completing at least some of the jobs scheduled. - Read one of the outstanding newspapers a day. Not yet. I've got rather a big pile of them, so the only way to do that is:

Perhaps you need the pressure of the deadline looming, it seems ages to 31 October. - Finish sorting the muddled bay in the attic. Not yet been to Morries.

Just popping in to update - will catch up properly tomorrow.
Garden – a sunny day so more weeding and I spent time in the greenhouse potting on some self seeded aquilegia'

Food – try new recipe each week - not yet!

Make time for me –make time to read or complete a craft project etc. Again not yet so I might have to ask Happy to take this on for me as she did yesterday

Autumn clean - I will aim to do 2 or 3 rooms during October. Washed some curtains and throws. I feel this is slightly cheating as the washing machine actually washed them so not a lot of effort from me!

Elnora, the garden must be looking pretty tidy now.
