joeyjimbles wrote: »And I do the carrier bag - or actually these days mini bin bag - of rubbish picking on my dog walks. I do get funny looks but I don't care. It irritated me massively that it was so untidy down by the riverbank, especially when there are three massive bins down there that are regularly emptied, so I started just picking stuff up and putting it in the bins. And now, I walk from the other direction and put it in the bag, and that goes into the bin.
Excellent news! I don't feel like quite so much of a madwoman now I know that other people are doing something similar. Thanks for letting on.Better is good enough.0 -
Today's update:
- Money. Bad news. Our tenant's boiler broke down today and the new part costs £110. We couldn't shop around because it's freezing and she has no heating or hot water so we had to just instruct the engineer to fix it. Other than that, no spends. *Ouch*
- Food. Five portions of fruit and veg eaten, along with five portions of cake and chocolate. Luckily it's my birthday and I believe the same rules apply on birthdays as at Christmas? You know, the ones where calories don't count? Absolutely so, and it's also noted that you have what I believe is called 'a balanced diet.' I heartily approve.
- Alcohol: Finished off my Christmas pernod, which has lasted longer than usual because I ran out of lemonade. No more temptation then, excellent news.
- Daily admin: Nothing new has arrived. Good news. I don't know, I used to look forward to receiving post but nowadays it's all dull or bills and needs dealing with. Booooooriiiiiiing.
- Admin catch-up: Finally tackled the biggie I've been avoiding since November and rang the tax office. They've sent Mr H several letters saying he has underpaid tax and needs to pay either £205 or £76, depending on which letter you read. We didn't see how it could be right and, amazingly, it's not! They told us something or other had updated wrongly after he was made redundant and actually everything is in order. I wish I'd rung weeks ago now! Marvellous, you've Eaten The Frog. We spend forever putting off things we think are going to be difficult only to find when we finally tackle them they're nothing like as bad as we thought they were going to be. Mark Twain apparently referred to this as starting the day by eating a frog - nothing after it will be as bad and we won't spend the day dreading having to do something vile!
- Contact with parents: Yes, my mum rang me this morning.
- Keep house tidy. On my birthday? Not a chance
Our hovels are No Fly Zone on birthdays.
Mr Bear says thank you very much. He's had two amazing days and Plymouth Argyle have just drawn against Liverpool, so today isn't looking too shabby, either. I can't move I'm so tired but that's okay because it all went amazingly well.
I hope Mr Happy's mother is being well looked after.Better is good enough.0 -
- Five fruit and veg a day: No idea about the other days, my memory is stalled. Hmm. Yesterday. Beans, tomato, kale, red cabbage, blueberries and raspberries.
- Lights out by 11.30pm Just joking.
- Make 100 sales cold calls by 31.1.17 I really [STRIKE]must[/STRIKE] will do the research for this, starting tomorrow.
- One random act of kindness or public service a day I collected another bag of rubbish on Thursday and realised it's going to take several more to clear just one side of the road and the carpark we walk through every day, but that will be the target this coming week. I then got completely carried away doing something else that it changed the way I was thinking about this targetty thing. Sufficient to say that even if I do nothing else this month, my conscience will be clear. I could get seriously addicted to this.
- Record something lovely that happens every day so that at the end of the year when I empty the jar I'll remember all the good things that happened I've changed my mind about this one, too. I'm going to use one of my many, many notebooks that are too pretty to muck up with lists and it'll mean I have a permanent record as opposed to lots of scraps of paper. I'll do that tomorrow, too.
- After 7th January cut out sugar until 1st February. I have cravings for jelly babies and a Christmas stockpile of thousands of them upstairs, so I'm sticking to finishing up leftovers from OH's birthday dinner last night. I forgot there was sugar in Pavlova when I had it for breakfast though ....

Helloooo
Been a bit absent due to hang over on Saturday and lots of drama today
Firstly happy birthday Mrs and Mr happy and Mr Honey bear!!! Hope you all had fab days and stuffed yourself silly!
Well done on all your targets mine have gone a bit out the window been pretty good with budget but overspend a bit on food! Will be careful this week, I have my sister staying and she is happy with whatever random concoction I make luckily!
Thanks so much for all your thoughtful responses to ex friend situation I feel a bit like a weight has lifted writing it down, and hearing I'm not crazy it was awful! It's made me really think I have to prioritise other friends who are not joint friends as my trust in the joint friends is damaged and I have other wonderful people in my life who I could see a lot more of so thank you all so much!

Morning Happy!
So glad that you've found a way forward with one of your targets Jvr, even if there has been a bit of an overspend on the food budget. Do you know what triggered it?- Five fruit and veg a day: Blueberries and raspberries, tomatoes, parsnips with carrots, artichoke hearts and celeriac
- Lights out by 11.30pm Just joking.
- Make 100 sales cold calls by 31.1.17 I'll do at least five hours reserach on this today.
- One random act of kindness or public service a day Nothing yesterday, a duvet day after all the excitement of OH's birthday.
- Record something lovely that happens every day so that at the end of the year when I empty the jar I'll remember all the good things that happened I'll deal with the notebook today.
- After 7th January cut out sugar until 1st February. Forgot there was sugar in pavlova, but other than that I stuck to this. I got cravings ...

Duvet day sounds bliss Honey!
Yea it was getting in meat and cheeses for meal with OH sis and her OH but was lovely and much cheaper than going out, she is paying me back for the wine so that will help. Then it has just been picking up bits and bobs... but compared to our weekends before especially if had been out for a drink its not too bad. OH also bought £26 beef to make biltong with (SA dried beef) which we all love and will make absolutely loads for snacks its all hanging up drying now.Debt: £14,000 now £2169Emergency Fund: 1000/ £1000:j0 -

I'm going to use one of my many, many notebooks that are too pretty to muck up with lists and it'll mean I have a permanent record as opposed to lots of scraps of paper. I'll do that tomorrow, too. We have an old, ornate goldfish bowl that we call our 'funny bowl'. We keep a pen and notebook next to it and when something funny happens we are supposed to write it down, fold up the paper and drop it in the funny bowl - the contents are then read out every New Year when we've forgotten all about them. It's a lovely idea but I don't think anyone has put anything new in it for about four years. I will dust it off and remind the family about it

I hope Mr Happy's mother is being well looked after. She is being looked after thanks, still in hospital but a bit more 'with it' today
