I know I am a bit late in posting here, but I just wanted to say that I totally and utterly agree whole heatedly that the £200 or whatever the final cost may be is well and truly money well spent for your lovely Miss Happy.
I truly hope today went well and some answers and help for her is found asap.
Take care xxxBox_of_Fluffies wrote: »Just dropping in to say I hope the appointment goes well and that you find some answers.
Box of Fluffies x. I think it did go well and I'm definitely pleased we paid for the quick appointment. It was £257 in total because he recommended a £57 hearing test using the hospital's special equipment, which came back completely fine.
He did lots of tests on her (balancing, eye and ear checks, touching objects etc) and said he's pretty confident there is nothing sinister going on and it is just a matter of time before she makes a full recovery. As expected he wouldn't put a time scale on it! He has given her some exercises to start, and told her NOT to just rest (as advised by the GP) but to try and do some normal everyday things, stopping when she is tired or the dizziness makes it too difficult or dangerous. That way her brain will adjust quicker to the faulty signals it is receiving. He is organising an MR scan for her (NHS funded!) but says this is just a precaution and he does not expect it to show anything worrying. We came out after a full hour feeling relieved and optimistic, but definitely poorer.

HappyNow, didn't want to read and not say hello!
I sat down this evening with the intention of finding a diary - and I found yours. I've been here for a few years and I have no idea why I haven't come across yours! Sorry, I haven't read all the way through (yet!) ... I read the first 10 pages, made tea and then read the last 10. I promise to read the middle bit as soon as I can!
I also have a DD who is in her final year at University and up to her neck in essays, exams and dissertation and I can't begin to imagine how distressed she must be. I hope the next few weeks brings good news for her - I suffered from Menieres a few years ago and know how scary spinning rooms are. It eventually went away but it sometimes rears its ugly when I'm stressed or under the weather (fortunately it's only for a few seconds and it goes away as quickly as it comes).
I agree with everyone here, spending money on a specialist referral for your DD is absolutely the right thing to do.
Good luck with the debt busting ... I'm now going to update my figures work out how much % I have paid off my debt and put it in my signature, but it will be no where near your 20%! Huge congratulations!
Hi Rubyjam, thanks for dropping by. I see you have a diary too so I will have a read through it later today (I'm supposed to be working from home right now!). I'm looking forward to your signature update, because on its current figures you are one of the few people around here with higher debts than me.
I always like to keep my % figures updated because it gives my debt-busting some sort of context which can be hard when the numbers are so huuuuge!.
Best wishes to you and your daughter xLBM Dec 2011. Aimed, but failed, to clear all unsecured debt by Feb 2019. Finally free of unsecured debt 21st May 21!

Pleased to hear the appointment went well. You sound more positive and less stressed about the situation. I guess it's good to hear from a specialist that there's nothing else going on and that she really will recover in her own time. It sounds like money well spent.Diary: Conquering Debts Once and For All

I am pleased for you that the appointment went well. It will be hard for Miss Happy to try to do normal things but let's hope she starts to improve very soon.
When I saw the consultant for my vertigo he put me on a bed and tipped me upside down and then sideways. I then had to sleep sitting up for five days!! I thought Miss H may have to have it done too but pleased she didn't.business mortgage £0))''(+ Barclay's business kitchen loan £0=Total paid off was £96105 PPI claimed and received £13527

Now that she's seen a consultant I can tell you about my cousin's diagnosis of vertigo. She was ultra-stressed when she developed it, and knew she was - there were multiple calls on her and she was totally unable to satisfy everyone's needs. Until the root cause of the greatest stress went away, the vertigo didn't. (She later found an exercise that helped with minor recurrences, and time solved that problem as well.) If me saying that is unhelpful, please tell me and I'll delete it, but honestly, approaching final exams is seriously stresseful for anyone and Miss Happy may find that tackling the cause of whatever is stressing her (boyfriend? girlfriend? exams? job-hunting?) as well as following the consultant's recommended exercise regime might help and speed recovery.
Tell me more about this 'professional mourner' job - I'd defo be up for that! I also have in mind a short story that I really should write about an elderly couple who have bus passes but can't afford to heat their house during the day or feed themselves properly who scour the local obituaries every day for funerals to attend (morning and afternoon) where they can occupy themselves and get fed. 'Oh, no, I worked with name years ago. A pity no-one else is here from those days. And how did you meet him?'Better is good enough.0 -

Thanks Fluffies and Granny, it is a relief. And now for the best bit! Mr Happy's mum has insisted on giving us £200 towards the fees! She said her money is wasted just sitting in the bank, and she wants to help Miss Happy in the only way she can. We did try to refuse but she wasn't having any of it. I wish I could tell her just exactly how much it means to us (like everyone else she thinks we are financially OK) but of course I can't. Anyway, three cheers for Granny Happy:)

That sounds like torture. I think Miss Happy would have vomited A LOT over his lovely hardwood floor and Persian rugs if he'd even suggested that :rotfl:.

Short story? Honey Bear, you've come up with a LIFESTYLE!. A bit of initial investment (waterproof mascara, multi-packs of tissues etc) and you're away! Actually, now you come to mention it, I didn't recognise half the people there at last weeks funeral. Hmmmmm.....
Sorry to hear your cousin had a similar condition - but again, reassuring to hear it eventually passed. The consultant did mention stress, explaining that anxiety won't actually cause labyrinthitis but it can certainly slow down recovery. She says she didn't feel particularly stressed until she got the illness, but that the illness and symptoms are very, very stressful in themselves. But of course she does have exams/PGCE interviews/house moves etc looming, so who knows what's praying on her subconscious (or possibly her conscious that she doesn't want to burden me with - hope that's not the case). She does seem quite relaxed now though and she is keeping on with the eye physio, so for now we just have to wait
